Ri'card wasn't sure if he preferred candidacy to weyrlinghood. As a candidate you were essentially nobody... just a face in an endless stream of people. Nobody, until you impressed to a dragon or wher... then you are the most watched person in the entire weyr. Everything you do could potentially ruin this fresh new bond.
Well Ri'card wasn't complaining.
He wouldn't do anything against the rules, even without the knowledge that Argotath and K'var's duo of flits were watching everything. Though he couldn't help feeling a little irritated every time he sees those flits. Ri'card would rarely do anything out of the ordinary, he didn't need to be checked up on. Mine?
The thing he did have a slight problem with... was the chores piled up on top of their many lessons and dragon care. Okay so at the age Mountebath was at right now, he didn't need to oil or wash him nearly as often...Mine... but the time it took to do both was near equivalent to two washings and oilings as a hatchling. Pretty much the same time. Mountebath was getting so huge....Ri'cardMine?
Like today for instance, he'd just finished oiling Mountebath and now he has to bag firestone--
Miiiiiiiiine!
"What?!" Ri'card snapped... well because he jumped dropping his bag on the ground scattering what he had inside. "For Faranth's sake, please tell me this is important," he tried again, his voice carefully controlled. Mountebath looked amused if anything, well used to Ri'card's little outbursts. Oh i'm sorry. Did I interrupt your mental rant? The now fairly large... purple lizard made a show of settling down legs tucked together tightly and his wings folded neatly. Nope, not important at all. Please continue. The purple weyrling ground his teeth together as he took a controlled breath.
He had picked up the bag, but dropped it again pinching the bridge of his nose with his forefinger and thumb. He could practically feel Mountebath hold back his ever growing amusement. "Well, I need to start over now... just tell me what." Mountebath fixed Ri'card with a serious look though with the rapid swirling of color in his eyes the weyrling knew better. Finally a draconic version of a grin spread across the Purple's face knowing he couldn't fool His.
The grin dropped as his head flumped on the ground, I'm bored! Watching you bag firestone is so boring! "Here's an idea, how about you he-" Look! There's Hikkikoth and His'!
Ri'card went rigid and he whipped around to see Imber. He desperately tried to smooth his expression, so he didn't look absolutely furious with that great purple dragon of his. Mountebath laughed and nudged his with a now bigger purple snout. Go talk to her. "No!" he hissed, please? I don't want to mess this up. Hikkikoth is so sensitive... "Don't be an infant and talk to him yourself," Please. You haven't talked to many people since impressing, you're losing your touch. Ri'card's gaze snapped to Mountebath indignantly, who actually managed to look serious. Maybe he was, Ri'card didn't analyze all too closely.
Straightening himself he tossed one last glare at his dragon before smoothing his expression. He picked up the bag he had and strode over to Imber, greeting her with a smile, "Hey, Imber.. right?" he cleared his throat awkwardly, "did you need any help? Mountebath has been making things... difficult but we'd most likely get this done a lot faster if we work together?" his voice did lift at the end of that into a question. He wasn't going to force his presence on her.
Mountebath was very pleased and he greeted his smaller black brother, dragon grin in place, Hikkikoth! So... bagging firestone, a real drag amirite?.

Hikkikoth could no longer curl about his rider as he did - and did often - when he was just a hatchling. Though he was not as small or able to cling to Imber as he once had, the black was still quite loathe to get out and do things with others, so still remained close to her side no matter what she was doing, be it bathing him, eating in the caverns (where he waited outside peering into the opening with expectancy and huffing angrily at any that appeared that weren't Imber), or doing chores. He followed her out of her room automatically these days and kept close on her heels to where she was working today. This particular chore suited him quite well in his desire to stay near the black weyrling and not deal with any other dragons.
Imber was happy to sack firestone while he silently looked on, sharply eying any that seemed like they might be about to approach HIS Imber and baring his teeth when they didn't seem to get the message. His rider ignored the rude behavior for now, though she knew she would be visiting K'ian and Kamikith later if he didn't ease up. That thought made Hikkikoth's head snap towards her.
::NO! N-n-not that Yell-low-w! He's t-t-too HAPPY. ImberM-mine, pl-leas-se, don't do th-that to m-m-me!:: The normally abrasive black hunched near the ground protectively, looking much like a frightened feline in posture and attitude. He shuffled slightly. ::Pl-lease, I'll b-be n-n-nicer!::
Imber raised an eyebrow at that. Truly, Hikkikoth? I would deeply appreciate it if you would. And then we could have some quiet time later during our free period, time to ourselves.
::I pr-r-romise!:: He looked at her mournfully for a few moments before his eyes flashed red, catching sight of something - or someone - approaching them. ::AF-FTER-R thes-se two l-leav-ve us, Im-mberMine!::
Imber turned around and caught sight of a familiar face and his purple approaching. She gave him a small smile, ignoring how Hikkikoth wrapped his tail about her waist possessively. "Ri'card! It's good to see you. It's very kind of you to offer. I think working together would be good for this. And for Hikkikoth as well." She shot a meaningful look at her black, who hesitated a moment before releasing her from his grasp. Her attention turned back to the purple weyrling. "I know we've been in classes, but I never had a chance to truly congratulate you on your Impression. I'm very happy you did. And he seems like a lovely purple. Are you getting along?" Imber returned to sacking the firestone, but kept her attention on the man doing it with her.
In the interim, Hikkikoth was left to Montebath's attentions. He didn't lower himself quite as much as he had been, but still shifted uncomfortably in his presence. The purple was regularly-sized, but that only made Hikkikoth feel smaller, weaker, more... useless. As though the purple would hate him even more for what he was. The question made him shake his head angrily. ::It is-s-s a good chor-re! I c-can s-s-stay-y with Im-mberMine f-f-for it.:: It made little difference to him what she did as long as he could be there. Especially since they weren't allowed to stay inside all day... Not that Imber would ever let them do that, regardless.
