The Weyr's forge was quite well supplied, there was no arguing that. Master Tius knew what he was doing, clearly. But it was all Weyr supply, not for use by the resident Journeyman for personal projects. All the miners that he knew were on the Northern Continent, which wasn't a whole lot of use to Jakran as long as he remained in the West.
So, he needed someone new. He hated dealing with new people. And he'd have to find them first. There was no giant sign attached to any of the Bowl walls proclaiming, "MINERS HERE!" and after his encounter with Tamarisk, Jak was reluctant to try exploring. He kept an eye out for Miner knots as he went between the forge, his room, and the Dining Cavern (via the Bowl), but thus far, he had yet to see any. Really, he ought to ask Tius, but until training was done, the Mastersmith appeared to belong more to the wherhandlers than to his Craft. Jakran didn't see too much of him, or not as much as he would of another Master, one who hadn't been odd enough to Impress a wher.
Which brought him back to finding his own supplier and setting up his own supply line. When he walked into the forge one day and saw a woman there with Miner knots, ho couldn't help but wonder who had known. This was perfect. No more hunting, she just showed up. If everything worked like that, just think of the time that could be saved.
She also had Rider knots on, which gave Jakran pause for a moment, but after all, even the ranking Smith here was bonded, so why not the miners? "Journeywoman?" he said, approaching her. He gestured at her shoulder. "Active miner?"
