Layna is a shy girl which she hides under an outgoing shell. When it comes to one on one conversations that go well beyond the greetings and introductions; she finds herself a little flustered which could lead into awkward silences. Layna would rather prefer a group or a bigger crowd because it helps fill in any awkward moments of silence. The shell she hides under is what she forces onto others which can come off as a negative or a positive vibe and in doing so hides her true self and keeps her ‘fear’ stress in check.
When she is not forcing her presence on others, she is intently alert and listens carefully to her surroundings because she does not like being surprised and she is quite nosy. She is very interested in the affairs of others because she finds that it’s a way to get to know someone, how they act with others, like whether or not they act the same or change depending on whom they are talking to. She is very observant which she perfected when she was younger because no one noticed her; so she could sit there and listen to her parents chatting, sometimes of her and they would talk as if she was not in the room with them.
One of Layna’s most noticeable qualities is that she is bold and daring also a little adventurous. She is not known for just sitting in a place for too long unless she is observing or just completely bored; which can happen from time to time. A bad habit of hers is to act before thinking and it tends to get her into trouble at times. It happens mostly when she is feeling angry, really happy, or hurt. For an example is when she is angry or hurt she tends to lash out and say things that she doesn’t mean, it’s like all the bottled up feelings and thoughts burst open and explode. She tries her best to hold it in till she is alone. She finds blowing up at her reflection helps release stress and anger. Which brings another habit, she tends to talk to herself because she believes that she is a good person to bounce ideas, and can argue quite decently. Being a good habit or bad depends on who catches her in the act.
Appearance:
Her most defining quality is her long sleek legs. She doesn’t have a long back so her legs bring out her height, which is held at 5 foot 5 inches. Her hair is a chestnut brown but if it catches the light it looks golden on the top. The length of her hair goes a little past her shoulders in a bit of a wave. Layna has a thin face and jawline sharpens towards her chin. Her eyes a hazel color and it changes from golden to greenish brown, also she has a little freckle on her left cheek. She holds a small frame around her shoulders and doesn’t have big hips, just average size where it doesn’t bring out much attention. She doesn’t have very much fat on her, she considers herself very boney but that doesn’t stop her strong right hook if needed.

Layna was born and raised in the Southern Boll Hold, her mom being a weaver in knitting, she gives her makings to Layna's Father which he then sells to different holds on his travels. For Layna, being at home felt like it was another world. She did not like staying in the house longer than she had to. Reason behind this was one word, her Mother. Her Mother made it completely miserable whenever she could. To sum up the person her mother was in one word would be controlling. Whenever she was in the same room as her, it was either her telling Layna that she needed to step up and be better, like her sister, whom past away when Layna was 3. Layna’s Mother always favoured her sister, if her mother didn’t bring up her sister she wouldn’t even know her name. Like how could she become someone she never knew in the first place and why would she want to? Other than a constant comparing, her mother had other special talents, Layna only started to like one of them; the one where her mother would pretend she didn’t exist, the cold shoulder treatment.
Her Father is whom Layna liked best. Its just that he was hardly home. Her father travels to different holds and also different parts of Pern as a merchant who sells his wife's work and nick-nacks he finds on his travels. Her Father loved to travel and explore the world, and when he came home, he would always tell lots of different stories about what happened on his travels. Layna knew he didn’t experience all what he spoke about, but she enjoyed his stories none the less. Another aspect of her father was that whenever he was home, her mother wouldn’t fuss about her all that often and she seemed happier. She knew that her father meant the world to her mother and she always wanted to experience the same thing one day.
One of Layna’s favorite place was outside, didn’t matter where she was as long as it was outside. The fresh air and the cool breeze, if it was a nice day. Layna would mostly park herself down somewhere and watch the clouds then move on to another activity as she didn't like to stay still that often. As she walked around the hold she would constantly have things running in her mind like why her mother was the way she was and who her sister was to receive such praise from her “impossible to please”mother. Her mother never really spoke about who she was, only says that she was better than Layna. Her sister’s name was Ariyla. From what she did get out of her mother was that she was very smart, and was very talented. She died when she was 13. Her Father is who told her of why her sister passed away but not until she was 15. From what she Father told her, Ariyla had succumbed to a terrible sickness that she had carried with her since she was 11. No one knew the proper name for it, the Healers would just call it the Malady, which just means the Sickness. She couldn't keep anything down, she had a high fever and her eyes were always dilated. Eventually her body was too weak to continue which lead to her demise. As much as that didn't really tell Layna who her sister really was like, she believed that her sister was a great person and most likely her mother was better person than she is to this day.
4 Months before Layna's 17th turn, Layna's Father was home, and she had been planning on asking him something. As her Father was embracing her, Layna looked up and asked if she could come with him when he leaves again in a weeks time to join him on his travels. He looked at her mother, her mother said nothing, he then accepted her request and they left a week later. Time sped up quickly when they traveled together, Layna absolutely loved it, she had been thinking of doing the same thing as her father when she was just a little older when the unexpected happened; a search dragon approached her. They told her that she would be a great fit to become a dragon candidate. Layna's eyes sparkled in excitement, her father was also rejoicing in the idea of his daughter becoming a dragon rider. She went separate ways from her father and traveled to Dalibor Weyr to train as a dragon candidate
