{desc=Mousie-sitting}He had to learn how to say no, G'lin decided. It was a skill he seriously needed to pick up, especially where his father's wher was involved. But Gennesk had been so upset, it was hard to refuse anything he asked. Of course he wanted to go and visit Delicious. And of course Genner had to go with him to make sure that he didn't make a big brown nuisence of himself in the infirmary. Of course this meant that Mouse needed someone looking after her, in the wake of the rather traumatic hatching. Somehow, G'lin had gotten volunteered. He still wasn't sure how this had happened. He didn't even really know what to do with a child, never mind one who was non-verbal.
He looked down at Mouse, a little nervous. Doom perched on his shoulder, chirping happily at her. Ana, can you ask Iola and Jainey to come meet us? They're both better at this than I am.
Ana gave him a very disdainful look. Jainath, my G'lin requests that you and your rider come and assist us in the Weyrbowl. We are taking care of Gennesk's Mini-Mouse for a little while. He ignored his rider, strutting up to the little girl and lowering his head so that it was level with hers. She was very small, but this did offer some very interesting and adorable fashion opportunities! Also, he had seen the Weyrbrats scuttling around on treasure hunts before, so the opportunity should not be wasted. Mini-Mouse, I curate a collection of beautiful and original things in my Weyr. Would you want to help me find the perfect tiny rock to add to it? Then I will send my associate Doom to go and fetch some scarves and pretty fabrics and we will determine what colours suit you best to make you a beautiful, fashionable dress.
G'lin stared at his dragon. The tiny blue would never stop surprising him. "Um, yeah, why don't we hunt for treasure. My dad used to do that with me and Gennesk all the time. It practices our observation skills, he said. So we could be better guards." He paused, thinking. "You have a puppy, right? My friend Dawn also has a puppy, maybe I could ask her to bring Rooey and Rooey and Charlie could play together and we could teach them tricks."

Mouse was understandably a little grumpy about not being able to accompany Gennesk to the infirmary after the hatching. It had been scary, but she had almost stayed for the whole thing…even if she’d probably have nightmares tonight, and that just meant that those in the infirmary probably needed her now more than ever. There was no medicine better than little almost-wher hugs! She resented being dropped off with G’lin and Anablimyth. She didn’t dislike them, but she thought she was brave enough not to need a babysitter.
Selene and Bray were sitting rigid on Mouse, still unsettled by the events of the hatching and determined to be the best Mouse-guards that they could possibly ever be. Bray was a little more severe than Selene, who chirped cheerfully up at Doom. Didn’t they have silly people?
The child was still very grumpy, pouting as she sat on the ground and refused to move. She could communicate with Genner and Gennesk. The wher was used to the child’s thoughts and it was just easy to communicate with the pair. With anyone else, it was an exercise in frustration, not to mention some of the dragons and whers in the weyr just weren’t interested in talking with her. And Mouse didn’t even know what to think of G’lin. She liked him because of Genner, and Ana was a very nice dragon, but G’lin didn’t seem to like her much…and the child was perceptive, even if she didn’t seem like it.
She perked up when Ana bent his neck down to talk to her, and petulantly, she almost decided to ignore him, but she was just too excited to see Ana and her expression brightened up considerably at his words. Mouse didn’t care much for fashion unless that fashion happened to be a wher costume…but spending time with Ana and helping him with his collection seemed like a fun thing to do! Selene needs a dress too. The child said solemnly to the dragon. She’s a girl and needs pretty things. Even if Selene did not, in fact, need beautiful things, she wasn’t going to disagree with something that finally got a reaction out of Mouse.
Then she brightened up as G’lin chimed in and Mouse jumped up, practically bouncing in her excitement. Yes! Charlie needs to know tricks because he’s mean sometime and he never listens to me, but I love him anyway. She chattered on at him, seeming to have forgotten that he wouldn’t have any idea what she was saying.

Ana seemed quite pleased that his approach with Mouse had worked. He gave G'lin a very smug look. He was so much better with children than G'lin was and it showed. G'lin ignored him, relieved that his suggestion of training the dogs made her smile. She says that her canine does indeed have a lot to learn. Shall I ask Nesdeth to send Rooalice over? I am already sending Doom on a quest to aquire beautiful accessories to dress Selene. Mini-Mouse is very discerning, she says Selene must have pretty things.
G'lin nodded absently, another thought occurring to him. He smiled. "Mouse, Doom is going to go get some pretty things for Selene. Do you want him to go get you a pair of eye-protects like Gennesk has to wear when he's out in the daytime? I have a pair that might fit you."
Oh yes. They're very, very trendy, right now. Gennesk was very avant-garde in that respect, Ana assured Mouse.
"Did my no-good brother ditch you to go see his precious Delicious?" G'lin turned, a little relieved to hear the familiar sarcastic voice. Dawn still looked like a bit of a mess and she had muddy pawprints on her back. Rooalice trotted alongside her primly, being very much a good little puppy. Nesdeth glided nearly silently down to settle behind Anablimyth. She looked down at Mouse with her usual flat stare, not saying a word.
"Yup. And Gennesk ditched poor Mousie for the same reason. So we've been sitting here being jealous of poor injured Delicious and all the attention he gets." He gave Mouse a conspiratorial wink. "Mouse, this is my friend Dawn. Gennesk calls her Wild Red because she's got a horrible temper and she and her brother are whers in human bodies."
"It's an unfortunate fate," Dawn drawled. "Although Nessie's doing a good job of being my handler. Rooey, go say hi." The little white dog immediately obeyed, trotting over to Mouse, sitting down and offering her a paw.

Really, after that hatching, Iola knew that Jainath would be agitated, though the copper would try to hide it from everyone. However, she -also- knew something that would help the dragon settle down.
Which was why they had been heading for the creche. Again. For all that Jainath tried to be the prim and proper queen, especially now, she did have a soft spot for children. Spending time with them always made her happy, and she was amazingly tolerant of them climbing around on her. And even if they were having some disagreemnts about the situation in the weyr currently, Iola wanted her partner to be happy.
Anablimyth asks us to join him. They are watching the small child that G'lin's father took in.
Iola was happy to have a reason to join them. All right. Let them know that we are on our way.
We are coming, she told the blue, moving in carefully to settle fairly close to where the group was. By the time that she arrived, Dawn had also joined the party. Iola hit the ground, patting an hand on Jainath's leg, and moved to join them. She had heard of the kid, but this was the first time to see her up close. Jainath herself settled down, head lower and tilted so she could see the child as well. Had to be careful anymore, could not just nudge them as she had as a much smaller dragon.
"Seems like we are making an interesting little group," Iola said, running a hand through her hair.
