So. That was a thing that happened.
A big thing.
A big scary horrifying bloody thing.
But it was still a thing.
Matilda still did not know how she felt about the whole ordeal, now that the adrenaline high had died. She wasn't quite sad, but a bit... Melancholy? There was nothing specific she could pinpoint for causing the feeling. Not the other candidate's death, not her own lack of impression, not even the pure trauma caused to others. It was all sad, yes, but it wasn't something she had not seen before. So she sat now near the lake, nudging old, dried leaves across it's surface with her crutch.
If Matilda was pensive, her three firelizards were down right depressed. Clotho flopped across her shoulders sighing and staring listlessly. While Lachesis and Atropos just sat quietly on the rock beside her. All in all, the trio was pretty put out. The could not remember why they were so unhappy, but just were.
Matilda was having none of their sadness though, she was already burdened with her own vague feelings. She didn't want theirs bleeding into her via their bond. Nudging Lachesis, the girl frowned.
“Hey, come on now. I won't have you three melting into a puddle of sadness on my watch.” Lachesis looked up, and a fuzzy memory of the Burgundy on Matilda's chest, claws poised at her throat flickered through. Lachesis probably had the longest memory of the three.
“Oh come off it. He didn't kill me! I'm fine. Plus, did you not see how cool he was? He was so dark! Almost black!! And his markings were just. Just so cool!” Clotho perked as Matilda's voice took on a higher note, her actions becoming more animated. Atropos just crawled int Matilda's lap and curled up, her girl was weird, but the green loved her.
“I mean, come on. You can not say brushing that close to death wasn't fascinating.” Lachesis gave her a blank stare, but Matilda continued on anyways.
“I mean I was so close! And I'm still here. Do you know how fascinating that is? I tasted death! I felt this odd connection, and then it was done. Done! All of it done just like that! You can not tell me that I was the only one who thought it was cool. They were all so cool. Even the big mean ones.” Like that, her pensive mood was broken, though she probably looked rather odd to anyone else around the lake, going on and on like that to just firelizards.
