Fyris had finally figured it out: The best way to keep Dreaneth happy and decidedly ~not~ bothersome was to keep the green occupied. Otherwise, she had a tendency to obsess over her rider and cause trouble. More often than not, Fyris' attention had been drawn away from various lessons by a crashing noise or a disturbing call for her. She sighed, then rested a hand affectionately on her green. Today, in one of her rare moments of wakefulness, Fyris was determined to keep her dragonet occupied.
By taking her fishing.
They had been clearly warned about the dangers of overfishing, but that wasn't the goal for today. Her planned activity was simply to teach Dreaneth how to fish. No eating what they caught (well, perhaps the first one simply as celebration), but since the green was indifferent towards fish and simply needed to be occupied, this seemed like a good idea.
Oh! Oh, this is so wonderful! You must teach me how to make these wonderful sticks! But isn't the handle too long? Maybe I should just...
"No! Don't. Don't. The handle is that size for a reason. If you make it any shorter you'll be looming over the fish and they won't want to come anywhere near the string." Fyris had momentarily stood up to hold back Dreaneth from breaking the pole in half. Dreaneth had a tendency for mischief and destruction, that was for sure!
The green stopped and looked at the set up before her, then looked at Fyris. Fine. So. Why would fish be silly enough to want strings? They aren't particularly tasty. The rod was on the ground before her, the string laid out neatly, and some worms of a particularly large kind had been gathered in a pot nearby. She had helped Fyris gather them, dipping her maw neatly into the ground and plucking them from the earth. It had taken some practice - the first few times she had accidentally bit them in half.
"They don't want the strings, they want the worms you'll hook onto them with the metal part on the other end of the string. Think you can manage to get one on there?
Yes! Yes! I saw you do it, let me try! I can do it! Enthusiastically grasping a worm, she started to try and put it onto the hook. The squirming, wriggling creature turned her attempt into a wiggly dance as she tried to maneuver it to be speared onto the hook.
Fyris watched with amusement, then leaned back against the rock she was on, casting her line into the water as she waited for Dreaneth to figure things out.

The dragon candidate had finished most of his chores and attended what lessons were available. With no clutch in the sands, lessons weren't really required. Kaius was busy as most of the new Weyrlings were, and apart from Ghol's amusing company Sandr found his social quota for his days to be depressingly lonely. Zorion his his quickly growing not so kitten like anymore were his company when he was able to play his guitar in his room.
Well there were some days he actually attended his Harper Lessons, learning things in his craft apart from playing various chords, like actually knowing history, learning to write a little better for record keeping. He was starting to think he should have joined his parents craft after all, he was feeling that Healing would directly help people instead of... doing what he was doing.
Right now however he decided to spend his time outside, near the lake. With the weather cooling down, Aleksandr is reminded of his great dislike of cold weather, not that it was so bad right now... but the thought of snow or things akin to it didn't appease to his summer loving nature. But with a long sleeved shirt on, it wasn't so bad.
Zo, the-blue-no-longer-really-a-hatchling-flit, betweened around Sandr as he walked along the bank. His guitar was strapped to his back watching the flit come and go with an amused expression. Although that expression quickly disappeared when Zo didn't return. Sandr knew quite well that the blue fire lizard was a social lover, and so always sought to be around others... which wasn't always a good thing. He tried to mentally call him, but he only received blurry vague images of two figures and what it looked to be.. worms?
Zo had betweened right beside Dreaneth chirruping cheerfully, landing on the ground between the weyrling and dragon. Aleksandr appeared moments after sort of out of breath. "Shards, sorry!" he quickly apologized, dropping his voice down at the end of the apology when he spotted the fishing rods. "He doesn't have any sense of personal bubbles, or if he does... he doesn't care." the boy eye'd the flit sternly, and said flit only cooed at him flitting over to land on his shoulder pulling at the guitar strap.
"I hope he didn't cause you to lose your worm," he asked the dragonet meekly before returning his attention back to Fyris. "You're Fyris right? Mind if I sit, I promise not to make so much noise." he asked with a sheepish grin, absent mindedly scratching Zo behind the ear knobs.

Fyris eyed the boy as he neared. Dreaneth couldn't be bothered - she was far too involved with her stick and worm to care that someone had approached Hers. The dragonet didn't miss a beat when the blue appeared, too wrapped up in her activity. Which made Fyris incredibly grateful. She smiled at the friendly blue flit, reaching a hand out so that he could come closer if he so desired. "It's fine, really. I am used to not having much of a personal bubble to being with - I had seven siblings and Dreaneth is more possessive than not. When she Flies, I fully expect that she won't let anyone catch her out of sheer jealousy that their rider would be touching me."
That's not true! They'd simply have to love you as much as I do!
The green was briefly distracted from her activity, but returned to it soon enough after her brief protest. A momentary pause. Who said I'd ever Fly anyway? You're too precious to let anyone approach like that! The green added that bit as an afterthought. A derisive snort escaped Fyris.
Her eyes slid over to the Candidate that had appeared. "I don't mind the company at all. I was just teaching Dreaneth hot to fish. I grew up in Tillek, so this makes me feel right at home. She's only allowed to eat the first one she catches, though, as celebration." She motioned for Sandr to lean forward so she could say something to him that Dreaneth hopefully wouldn't catch. "Keeps the brat occupied. It's a lot like raising my siblings. Lots of activity, and she'll be happy as a unnerbeast in an open field. If you ever need your room painted, just ask!"
Oh, Mine My Own! I did it! I got the worm on! Dreaneth interrupted at that point, waving around her pole. Fyris had to duck to avoid the worm that went flying through the air, thoroughly attached to the strong.
A snort escaped her, and she rolled her eyes at Sandr. "I don't mind at all if you join us. I could use the company. SHE is good at concentrating, but I never had the patience for it."

Zo, happily skittered over to Fyris head bumping into her hand and then following through with the rest of his body -- even arching his back. He made a face at the flit, followed by a slight eye roll before his attention returned to his ex fellow candidate. He offered her an apologetic sort of smile anyway, "well one day he'll bother someone who isn't as used to it as you are," he stated shrugging lightly. "Ah well you need to worry about anything flight related then," he chuckles.
The candidate removed his guitar placing it gently on the ground before sitting. His attention was still on Fyris as she explained what the dragon was trying to accomplish. Blue eyes flickered to the green trying to snag the worm on the hook, and smiled stifling a laugh. When she motioned for him to lean in he did so without hesitating the smile on his face widening as he actually did laugh. "I will need to talk to my new room mate, but we could probably arrange something," he chuckled, copying her hushed tones before settling back to where he was.
His eyes flickered up just in time to have a hook sail over their heads, and he ducked accordingly. Even if it wasn't going to hit him, it was still a shock to see a hook (worm attached) flying around. Zo, removed himself from Fyris' side jumping up and chirping a congratulatory chirrup. Bright blue eyes, blending with his bright blue hide, poke over the edge to the water his little feet dancing. Every third beat his gaze would snap to Dreaneth, and then back to the water. He wanted to see a fish get caught! Fyris' wasn't doing anything but he was so certain the green dragon would catch something.
"Well i'm finished anything I had planned today, so keeping you company sounds nice. Although no fishing for me," he chuckled, "I was on a very interesting fishing trip already -- and my attention span is as fantastic as Zo's" he snorted his gazing returning to the fire lizard whose attention shifted from the water to a beetle it was trying to catch with its front 'paws'. "He spends too much time with my cat, I think."
"So how's weyrling-hood treating you?" he asked before dropping his voice, "apart from keeping her attention fixed on something."

Fyris had to laugh at Sandr's commentary. He had a good sense of humor, and knew how to use it. "Well, Weyrlinghood is... interesting. I don't know how else to put it. It's still so strange having someone else in my head all the time, but I appreciate the lessons to teach me how to block it. Otherwise, I'd go a little stir-crazy," she murmured. "It's... Well. Still a surprise that I wake up to each morning. I don't think I ever told anyone this, but I came because my siblings asked me to, and I was so old... I just figured that I would age out. And if I hadn't Impressed her, then Wenth's hatching would have been my last. Seems strange, two chances at it, and I got it the first try out. First dragon, even, to be Hatched that first time."
She was quiet a moment, pensive. But then her expression softened quite a bit. "I'm excited to see what you Impress. Seems like your friend got one fairly ranked. K'ius, now? Seems like there's a fair chance you'll both end up riding a ridiculous purple. Seems a lot of friends end up on ranked dragons together." It was a minor observation she had made, but it seemed to ring true from what she had seen.
MIIIIINE! Miiiine! That flit! That flit! It's so cute, can I have one? I promise that I'll love it and take care of it as much as I do you~! Dreaneth had dropped the pole and was instead watching the hyperactive creature play around, watching it intently.
Fyris paled at the thought. With that much care, she's surely kill it! Better to keep any and all pets far, faaaar away. "Maybe at the next hatching," she said in a lighthearted tone, trying to hide her dismay from the green.
That's a promise! I'll keep my ears open! Oh, wher's wings. Or maybe you can ask 'Sandr to give us his? "NO. That flit is HIS and you are NOT taking it." But I already have it!
Having been trying to ignore anything the green was doing up until then, Fyris looked right at Dreaneth with horror on her face. Knowing that her Bonded was always one for mischief, she feared the worst. It wasn't as bad as it was in her mind. The blue flit had landed on her tail, which she was rocking slowly back and forth, giving the flit a little 'ride', chirping happily at it. She slumped against the rock in relief.
"Give it back." The words were quiet but firm. The green hummed, a suspicious gleam in her eye, then stretched her tail out towards Aleksandr so the flit could be handed off.
Sandr, would you help me cast my line? PLEASE?! Dreaneth pleaded prettily to the Candidate, motioning with the same tail that he should come to her side. Fyris looked at him, shrugging her shoulders. "If she pulls anything, I'll be sure that she gets punished properly," the weyrling whispered to him in an effort to be reassuring.

Sandr listened quietly, eyes dancing over to his flit now and again to make sure the little blue isn't bothering Fyris' dragon. "I guess you came at just the right time," his voice was soft but there was a bright smile on his face. "I came a little too early I think haha."
Then he would laugh as he leaned back on his hands, "I would be lucky to get anything above a fighter. Not that there's anything wrong with them. But a king, let alone subking is a pretty big leap," queue amused eyeroll, "Kaiu- uhh K'ius is convinced I will impress to a pink or something," he said with a bit of a sheepish grin. "Don't get me wrong, they're great... but not the manliest of colors." Though his words and thoughts sort of didn't match up, as much as he outwardly laughed at getting a female dragon... he felt he'd be lucky to get any dragon no matter the color.
His deep blue eyes slid from Fyris to Dreaneth who was now playing with Zorion. Zo happily had jumped onto the wiggling tail, his own tail wavering much like Corvin's when he's playing or happy to see Sandr. Aleksandr's head canted to the side as he watched, not at all as concerned as Fyris soon was.
But he didn't intervene with the conversation the two were having. Well Fyris was mainly scolding. Sandr was sure there wasn't a problem with the dragon playing with his fire lizard. Zo certainly was having fun as he chirped happily, gently gripping said tail. "Like I said Zo doesn't know what personal space means," he chuckled shifting and leaning towards Dreaneth's tail so he can grab the now keening, pouting fire lizard. "Come, Zo i'll find Shobhaith for you to play on, later maybe?" he told the blue who mildly cheered up at the thought. But this is where the party was! Regardless he crawled on Sandr's offered arm and perched on his shoulder head resting on the brown/copper head of Aleksandr.
It was then the green's voice broke into Sandr's head and he sort of stiffened. He will never get used to that, so weird to have someone else's voice and thoughts in his own head. But once everything clicked that he wasn't going crazy he relaxed and smiled charmingly at the dragon. "Sure, no problem," he replied sliding himself over, not before a knowing smile at Fyris. Now he wasn't a fishing master but he knew which end goes into the water. So the boy picked up the fishing rod and cast it into the water. Zo who was perched on his shoulder squeaked excitedly.
He would look to Dreaneth, holding the rod out so she could grab it. "Not the best cast on Pern, but it should be far enough out to grab some fish." he chuckled. "I think I prefer this method of fishing than diving with Dolphins as much fun as that was."

Fyris chuckl at his words about pink not being manly. "Better to be too early than too late. After all, if I hadn't agreed to the Seqrch - at my siblings behest, I would never have come because I wanted to myself - then I wouldn't have Impressed this darling. But like I said, seems friends tend to Impress about the same level, so if you manage a pink, I'll bet it's a new color of subking." She was perfectly happy with Dreaneth when all was said and done, whatever her color was. After all, she didn't even expect a dragon!
Dreaneth watched as the boy came and sat down, quickly refocusing on the cast to make sure that she would member for the next time. But then her attention went right back to the boy as she grasped the rod in her teeth. Thankfully she didn't need her maw to speak to him as she leaned in close, eyeing the boy.
Thank you. Also, your flit is quite handsome. Now... She wrapped the end of her tail around his waist, an action which made Fyris stiffen with worry. Last time she had done this, the person had gotten tossed into the lake!
Dreaneth fixed him under a slowly swirling eye. You are our friend, right? You are not here to take my Fyris away, are you? If you are, then I will toss you into the lake or somesuch, the green warned him. I like Mine very much as she is MineMyOwn, and you will have YourOwn, so please do not take Mine, okay? the words were said calmly, patiently, but with a certain steel beneath them. He needed to know that Fyris was hers.
And then they could be good friends! After all, he had cast her line for her and did it rather well. She hadn't known how to do that before. And she wanted to get back to fishing right away. The thingy was bobbing on the water! Fish might be there! Fish!
In the meanwhile, Fyris was left completely out of the conversation. Dreaneth had made it private between her and Sandr, and tht meant that all she could do to wait and see what happened between them to know if she needed to apologize for anything. Because she was sire that there would be something to apologize for. It was Dreaneth, after all, her possessive if loving dragon.

Sandr was cautious but he's also naïve and probably too trusting. So he never thought twice before approaching Dreaneth to cast her line. His attention wavered from the green as he chuckled at Fyris, "rider of a pink sub-king... I don't mind the sound of that." the chuckle turned into a laugh at the ridiculousness of it. Nope he couldn't picture it.
Dreaneth's voice entered his mind, thanking him... but before he could pull away and sit back where he was before--- a tail firmly wrapped around his wrist, her face leaned in close. Aleksandr immediately mentally prepared himself for a dunk into the lake. He stiffened, but she didn't pull or tug... instead he just braced himself listening to her speak.
It was actually pretty silly and ridiculous and he was sure he didn't give off a creepy 'i'm going to steal people from dragons' vibe. If her tail wasn't wrapped firmly around his wrist, he'd probably laugh it off and tell her she was being silly. But now with the threat getting dunked in the water... well his thoughts were cautious and attentive carefully picking out his words.
"I would never take her from you. I definitely don't spend my time taking what's not mine... let alone people." his smile was hesitant. "She's all yours, nothing to worry from me. I just want to be friends." and that was the Faranth honest truth, because he really didn't want to go swimming right now. He hoped that was enough to appease the green dragon.
Zo chirped from 'sandr's shoulder sensing his bonded's nervousness. Wrapping his tail around Aleksandr's neck he leaned forward placing a foot on Dreaneth's snout if she allowed making an off purring cooing noise the end of it raising into something akin to curiousness.
