Since he had a bit of free time before he needed to be back at the Barracks, Letorin went to visit Sourtai. She had been watching her nest with a dedication that was surprising for most pinks he knew. He had set up a pot of sand next to a fire in the main dining hall, so things would stay warm, and he didn't have to worry about her vanishing completely on him.
Honestly, he didn't expect much from this nest, but it wasn't going to push his flit too hard. In a while, he'd deal with the eggs, but he wanted to let her guard them for a normal length of time.
She made pleased sounds at him when he arrived, flying over to land on his shoulder and snuggle close. Smiling, Letorin petted her and fussed a bit. His other flits were out doing who knew what, as this was his time with his first flit. He liked spending a bit of time with each on a regular basis, just to make sure they were all okay and healthy. Plus having so many was a bit exhausting, and even now, he still was keeping track of them mentally.
"How are you doing?" he said, running his fingertips over her head. She bounced, and clearly projected the fact that something important was happening. Making a curious sound, Letorin tried to puzzle out what she was showing him.
Then she was off his shoulder and back to her pot, and Letorin figured it out.
One of the eggs was wiggling, and Sourtail began to hum as the others started moving as well.
Blinking in surprise, Letorin stared for a moment. Then the rest of his fair arrived, settling around the room, all humming their little hearts out. He had never actually been at a hatching where it was one of his little group who parented one of the eggs.
Rising, he went to speak to one of the cooks, and came back with some scraps of meat. There were people around, given that it was a time when the day and night residents of the weyr were both up and moving. Hopefully, there would be plenty of people around who were interested in one of the babies, as Letorin did not need to add any more to his collection.
Setting the bowl on the table, he brought the little next over, being scolded by Sourtai the whole time. Once he set it down, she calmed, and went back to fuss over the hatching eggs.
((ooc: two of the eggs have already been promised, but the last will be given at random to one of the posters.))

Phaenna was just finishing her meal when she heard the humming of fire lizards. She recognized the sound from the last fire lizard hatching she had attended, and her eyes lit up when she realized that another hatching was imminent. She doubted she would be so lucky as to Impress a second time; she already had Valen, and she was quite happy with him, but at the same time she wouldn't mind another friend. Either way, it would probably be fun just to watch the hatching.
Standing up, she looked around, trying to figure out where the humming was coming from. She eventually found the pink fire lizard and her eggs, along with one of the other candidates she sort of recognized. She gave him a cordial nod, though she was feeling too shy to speak. As she watched the eggs, Valen found her from wherever he had been lurking; the black settled onto his usual perch on her shoulder and hummed as he stared at the eggs. They were not the only candidates in attendance; Tamren had been drawn to the sound of humming as well, and he grinned when he saw the eggs. Even if it was only a pink's clutch, it was still much better than a pillie hatching. Fire lizards were much more his style.
(OOC: Even thought Tamren showed up as well, Phaenna's the only one actually available for Impression. Where fire lizards are concerned, Tamren is forever doomed to failure.)

Flare liked pink flitts. His mama had been a pink, he remembered, though he wasn't sure exactly which one. Pretty was also a pink and although she was a bit of a stick in the mud and didn't do much except be ornamental and coo at their person, she was very sweet and nice. Flare therefore had always thought very highly of pinks. When he felt the hatching start, therefore, he chirped happily and started herding his person, with a lot of humming to tell him what was going on. Pretty thrummed happily in approval. She cooed to Sourtai as they entered the room, congratulating her on her very beautiful eggs.
Kaydian felt more relaxed in the diniing hal than most places, now that he had started working in the kitchen again. Apparently being a former drudge did have its advantages, since he had managed to make a friend of surly Yentil and since they now did request him for doing organising tasks. He slouched much less, smiling shyly at Letorin, then he nodded respectfully to Sourtai as if she was a dragon mother for whose clutch he was standing. It was important to be respectful to all clutch mamas regardless of species, Flare had taught him that. "Thank you for letting us near your eggs," he told her. "They're very beautiful and they'll hatch into lovely flitties, if they're like their mama."
Flare made a small sound of approval, going to try and hang from his tail from the rafters. He almost had it, now, it was just a question of balance.

Carissa was finishing her own meal when Janvia started humming, surprised at this Carissa looked around looking for the source before seeing Letorin coming in with a basket full of sand and three Fire Lizard eggs. She was busy enough as it was with Janvia and a double clutch due to hatch before Fall, another Fire Lizard would not help matters. Then again Carissa did attend Green Jade’s Hatching knowing full well that she could’ve bonded with the resulting Green. Considering her personality though, Carissa was happy that she didn’t end up bonded with the Green. Just out of sheer curiosity about how things would end up Carissa came over to the table where the basket was set.
Carissa remembered Letorin from Jade’s Hatching though they didn’t have much time to talk, and by the looks of things it was his Fire Lizard that was the mother of the clutch this time around. There were only three other people, all Dragon Candidates, including Tamren who Carissa met at Western Hold’s gather. Carissa didn’t get much time to talk to Tamren after the abrupt end to the Gather with everything that had happened. As for the other two besides names, which were Kaydian and Phaenna, and which species they normally stood for Carissa didn’t know much about them. “Hello,” said Carissa to no one in particular.

"Yes yes, I'm sorry. I for-ack-got." D'nari gently pushed Gracey away from his ear, which she was trying to nip at. She was such a stickler at times that when she realized that it was far past the time that he should have gone to the Dining Hall, she had begun to bother him. It was obvious at times that she did not approve of his diet, and he was sure that Nesdeth would be pleased to find out that he'd woken up with dead bugs in his mouth several times because of Gracey trying to make sure he was fed the proper things... at least Enciath said it was Gracey. Somehow the pink flit and the cyan dragon had managed to live together and neither had been reduced to pulpy lizard mush... alright, Gracey hadn't been reduced to pulpy lizard mush.
A cheap at D'nari, because of how foolish he was being, Gracey felt the stir of humming, and it was only her belief of proper firelizard reaction that kept her from flying off to join in the humming. Instead she stayed perched on her chosen human's shoulder until they entered the Dining Hall. As soon as she saw it was her humans human, she opened her wings and was flying off to find her own personal perch and hum for a fellow pink... even if she was acting strange, and very un-pink flit like, with the mothering of her eggs. She hummed all the same.
D'nari took in the situation, and seeing it was Letorin's circus of flits running the event, he grinned and headed over to say hello. "Knew it was bound to happen, looks like Sourtai has done a great job. How're you doing, Letorin?" He asked as he threw one arm over his friends shoulders. "Three is a big clutch for a pink too. Adding to your group?"
Why do all those hatchings happen inside? There are plenty of hatchings that happen outside. For pillies... and you still won't let me have one! If you can keep Nesdeth from putting any bugs in my bed, and Sourtai from putting them in my mouth for an entire Turn, I'll consider it. A full turn?!
D'nari grinned, knowing (sadly) that it would be an impossible task. He didn't want one of those bugs latching onto his skin! He'd be fine with more pets, a bug was not a pet. Bugs were firelizard food, and he knew that far to well.

It was good to see some others pulled in to watch the hatching. The better chance he'd be able to find the babies all new homes. Nodding hello at the other candidates, he grinned at them. Let's see, he recognized Carissa from the pillie hatching. And he recalled Phaenna and Tamren from lessons. Around them all, his fair began to hatch louder.
And then the first egg split open, spilling out a pink, with dark stripes on her wings. She paused a moment, once out of the shell, looking around with a curious tilt of her head.
Well, the first one was out, and that was a relief. Glancing at Kaydian, Letorin smiled back, giving the other an encouraging look. Sourtai chirped at him in greeting, pleased to have that sort of respect shown to her.
"I suppose it was inevitable," Letorin said. "And she's such a mothery sort, it works out." It was a bit odd to have a pink be do dedicated to her nest, but if any pink was going to, Letorin figured it would be Sourtai. "Though I hope that these guys pick people to go with.
A second egg cracked, then there was a tiny flake of shell that popped loose. There was a swirling glow of an eye peaking out, but that was all that happened. Sourtai made a low chirp at the hidden baby, trying to encourage them to hatch.
As she did, the pink began to pick her way to the edge of the nest, exploring a bit. Though she soon hit the edge of the nest, and then went to poke at the other eggs.
The third egg almost exploded as a green bounced out of it. With a loud noise, the green looked around, eyes glaring at everyone for a moment. Then she stalked over and nudged at her pink sister. She flared out her wings, pale foggy edges bleeding into the marks on her tail and legs. Making a rather demanding noise, the green smacked the mostly intact egg with her tail.
Letorin just covered his face with one hand. "Well, it seems that they are definitely healthy. At least two of them are." He was curious about the one who was still hiding in the egg.

A young man about twenty turns old came next along with a Pink Fire Lizard; Carissa vaguely remembered his name being D’nari one of the newly graduated Sparkstarters. Carissa did not know much about some of the other Candidates let alone the full Dragonriders, Wher Handlers, Weyrlings, and Wherlings so it was excusable that Carissa did not immediately remember what Dragon D’nari rode. It was admittedly surprising that the Pink Fire Lizard mother took an interest in the clutch this far into it, then again there was not anything to directly disprove this could happen.
The first to hatch was a pink with darker stripes on her wings, at least she wasn’t like the mischievous Green Pillie that came from the Hatching that Carissa had previously attended. Then again she didn’t do much of anything since her hatching besides tilt her head and look curious and wander to the edge of the nest. Her Green sister on the other hand was rearing to go, bursting out of her shell making loud noises all the while, and then smacking the mostly intact egg before making her way over to her sister. As for the third, whether this clutch would be all females or this egg held the only male of the clutch had yet to be seen. The only thing anyone could see was a whirling eye from the dark depths of the crack in the egg. Janvia soon lost interest in the remaining egg, typical Green, instead going over to the newly hatched pair of Fire Lizards.

The green continued to nudge at the hidden baby, until Sourtai nosed her away. With a huff, the green pounced on her pink sister. Or tried to, as the pink managed to give a bit of a wiggle and squirm, and fling herself out of the nest of sand. Really, she had wanted to look around some more, but if her sister was going to be like that, the pink was just going to go find a new spot to go. Landing on the table, she looked at people who were gathered around. She bounced forward a bit, looking from person to person. Tamren was studied first, then dismissed. Then she was studying some of the others when she was tumbled over by her sister again. The green, giving a triumphant little chirp, gave a tiny bit of a bounce in triumph in taking down the other baby, only to go tumbling as the pink squirmed free again. There was a bit of snipping back and forth, and then the green turned and tossed herself into the air again. She gave a quick circle around the group, then arrowed directly for the person she decided would be best. Landing with a hard thump on D'nari's shoulder, she made a demand for food, wings fluttering around as she bounced a bit on her front legs. He was hers now, and now he needed to feed her. There were several impatient sounds as she danced some for her food. Impressed to D'nari Green(hex 1A7C1A, markings 9EDC9E)
This little girl is bold and certain of what she does. She is in charge, as far as she is concerned, and has no issues trying to put that into practice. Even someone tries to prove otherwise, she'll just come back at it from another angle.
She throws herself into trying new things, and has no issue indulging in any treats or affection that her person will give her.
There was a moment as Letorin blinked at the situation, then he started to laugh. "Well, now you get a new baby. Ha!"

Janvia was a little annoyed with the fact that the two new Fire Lizards paid no attention to her as she sat near the sand filled basket that served as a nest. She chirped hello at the pink that flipped out of the nest before the newborn flit took off looking for someone to Impress. Carissa was amused with her a few sevendays old Green Fire Lizard’s attempts to interact with Letorin’s Pink’s two daughters with limited success as so far she was being ignored completely. The little Green was the first one to Impress, the only person present that wasn’t a Candidate, the newly graduated D’nari. Janvia, a little annoyed with the lack of a reaction to her from the newly hatched Fire Lizards, came back to Carissa once more perching on her shoulder interested in the egg that had not hatched yet.
The Fire Lizard that was in the egg seemed content enough to stay in the egg that he or she was in for the moment even after being prodded by its green sister. Carissa will be patient, whether or not she Impressed didn’t much matter matter to her, it was not like this Pink Fire Lizard was the only fertile female flit in Dalibor after all.

Kaydian smiled a bit at the little shy one in its egg. "Miss Maelie in the kitchens has a little flitty who's afraid of everything," he told Letorin, although he didn't look up from the flitts. He liked flitts. "He's very cute. He's a little blue. She let me hold him, once because she said I could understand him best. She's very nice, miss Maelie. She makes bluerider F'dren the best klah cakes. Her little flitty is doing very well, so this one probably will too."
He smiled when the little green Impressed D'nari. He vaguely remembered D'nari, though he hadn't had much contact with him. He was the twin of the scary redhead who had impressed at Counineth's hatching. He already had a pink like Pretty, the little green would have good company.

Phaenna smiled when the first egg hatched into a pink like her mother. She watched the hatchling for a bit, and then realized the second egg was beginning to crack open as well. She leaned forward slightly, trying to get a better look at the hatchling inside, but it was futile; it was next to impossible to see anything of the egg's inhabitant. While she was distracted, the third egg exploded open, revealing a green flitter. She stalked over to her pink sister and poked her, flaring her wings and smacking the other egg as well. Phaenna stifled a giggle at Letorin's comment that the flitters were "healthy." When it came to the green, that was one way to put it.
Then the pink fire lizard was approaching the spectators. Phaenna got excited. She rejected the first person she came across, but it was Phaenna, so maybe she still had reason to be hopeful. The green chose someone as well, and she gave a soft, "Congratulations," to the rider who wound up with the green.
-------
Tamren had watched the eggs hatch as well. He wasn't disappointed that the two shown so far were female fighters--fire lizards weren't like dragons, and it didn't matter which one he got. He just longed for a fire lizard of his own. The green and pink approached the people; he was just a little disappointed when the green chose someone else, but he got a little miffed when the pink deliberately approached him and then clearly dismissed him. Well fine. He was a guy. Why would he want a pink pet, anyway? He didn't say that out loud--he wasn't that immature.

Naras strode into the Dining Hall quietly, humming to himself. He paused at the sight of Letorin and the sound of firelizard humming. Oh great, the boy's pink had eggs hatching. He got his meal and made himself scarce, his daughter's fair having rather spoiled his opinion of firelizards in general. He did give credit to Letorin, though. His fair was quite well-behaved, and didn't get in the way or claw him or anything like that.
Naras looked around from his vantage point across the dining hall, breathing a faint sigh of relief when he realized his daughter wasn't present. That meant there wouldn't be yet another firelizard winging to claw him when he got too close to his daughter when she wasn't in any mood to see him. That was obnoxious. He idly wondered if the firelizards would see what the dragon saw oh so long ago, though, and investigate them. He quietly set about eating his meal, enjoying the flavours and textures, his mind on music as he turned his focus away from the firelizards.
He hummed a few bars of an anthem he was working on, one he felt would encompass the whole Weyr in musical form. It started out as a bouncy tune, but Naras paused and re-thought it. He started again, the tune slower, more dirge-like, but that didn't sit well either. He rolled his eyes at himself and stuffed a forkful of mashed tubers in his mouth, silent as he chewed. That piece would be his someday, he knew it.

The pink finally noticed that she was being chirped at by someone else, and chirped a greeting at Janvia. She started to prowl around some more, looking around, making curious sounds as she smelled all sorts of new things. Then her stomach grumbled, and the pink decided that it was time to go find her person. Resuming her studying of people that her sister had interrupted, the pink stretched out her striped wings and took to the air. She came to rest on Kaydian's shoulder, chirping at him. She was hungry, and there were many things to go find and tell him about! It would be exciting! Impressed to Kaydian Pink(hex E88EA7, markings 9B304E)
She loves to find new things to show the people that she claims are hers. She is cheerful and delighted to show them all the new things to find, and loves to be praised when she brings some prize or another home. For her, the best thing is collecting something and giving them as a gift.
While she is sweet and adoring of her family, this girl can be a bit standoffish to those she doesn't know. Not mean, just likely to cling to those she knows, including her clutchmates.
Letorin grinned, pleased to see another one with a home. Watching her find a human almost made him miss the last one bursting out of their shell and streaking across the room. He got a blur of dark color, and the black landed next to Naras. He was a tiny black, with speckles of color dusting him. They were almost set in wave patterns on his wings, and Letorin had to bit his lip at the rather soft chirp that the baby gave to Naras. Ha! Served him right for giving Letorin a flit eggs, even if it had given him his rather lovely purple. Impressed to Naras Black (hex 000000, markings of 006387, 312473
Loyalty is the word for this black. He is utterly and completely devoted to his, to the point of trying to bit anyone who upsets them. Curious by nature, he will often find new places to settle in and watch things, but the second that someone or something upsets his, this black will be there, ready to try tearing something apart. It doesn't matter the size. He'll challenge a gold if need be, though he'll be smart about it.
He is quiet, when not trying to protect his, and very affectionate. He loves being petted, and enjoys just being with his person.
Pleased that the eggs hatched out fine, Letorin grinned at everyone. Sourtai flew to him, settling on his shoulder and he collected the pot to clean up. "That was interesting," he said to D'nari, grinning a bit. "I knew it was going to happen at some point, but that was really different. I can't imagine how the owners of queens do it, or dragon riders."

Kaydian's face lit up as the little pink ame to him. Pretty cooed happily, more than pleased to have another pink to help her take care of her beloved owner. Flare approached the tiny baby, introducing himself properly. She gave him a long, calculating look before chirpping at him happily. Kaydian carefully fed her small pieces of meat, cooing at her affectionately. "Hello precious," he murmured softly. "Maybe that's your name, do you think? Precious. Pretty, Flare and Precious."
He smiled happily at Letorin, then at Sourtai. "Thank you so much for trusting me with her, I'll take good care of her. She's so sweet, look at her." He scratched between her wings gently. She cooed at him, still gobbling down meat.

Amused expression in place as he watched the two little firelizard babies burst from their eggs, he found his gaze sliding to Letorin. There was a visible question in his expression, but when he was about to say something, Gracey decided to burrow through his hair, all the way to his ear, and nip harshly. Wincing, he swatted at her, and she released with a chitter, before landing what she believed was a respectful distance from the hatching.
Rubbing at his ear, he didn't feel a warm wetness, so at least she hadn't broken skin. It wasn't often that she behaved that way, but she was already bothered that he had fallen out of rhythm with his normal daily behavior. She was a stickler, and he knew that well enough. "Why don't you find something to eat, Gracey?" He would have sent the mental image of meat to her, but he had gotten to the point where he didn't think about how much he missed it... very often. Gracey seemed to have decided that the words were prompt enough for her, and spreading her light pink wings, took off to the kitchen, raising up to the point she almost touched the ceiling, so to avoid the crowd that always gathered with firelizard hatchings.
Her leaving seemed to be enough to get one of the newly hatched babies on him. Her hard landing had him looking at her. "Did someone lose their pet?" D'nari was getting so used to other people's little lizards using him as a perching post, that he didn't immediately connect that the cries of her hunger were directed at him. Until she bounced on him. Letorin's words on top of that had him just blinking at it. "..."
Gracey returned and nearly did a mid-air skid when she saw a little green hatchling demanding that food be given to her now. What was this!? What was this! She landed on the table, and had a rigid hold to her little spine. She was eying this green baby, it shrill demands weren't something she would tolerate, nor would she tolerate her favorite shoulder being taken. The demanding little green would have to find somewhere else to be. Deciding that was the proper attitude, she took to wing, and landed on the same shoulder.
Still demanding food, the green caught on quickly what was happening when Gracey landed next to her, little green still felt that she could take charge on the situation, though Gracey was bigger than she was. Taking this moment to nearly split her maw in two with a yawn, twisting her head as she did so, when the yawn finished, and she closed her mouth, it was right over the tip of Gracey's tail which was curled around her, as if to show a barriar.
With an indignant and a surprised squawk of displeasure as her tail was nipped, because even as an infant, those teeth were still made to tear apart meat. It obviously wasn't hard, since only pain echoed (and was fading), and there was only the impression of teeth, no split skin. Flapping her wings in annoyance, she felt at a loss of how to handle the green, and looked to D'nari for help, the noise she peeped at him definitely sounded like she was telling him to 'Fix this!'
"She's probably just hungry, Gracey." Reaching for a few small pieces of meat, he risked a sideglare at Letorin. "How is it that I end up surrounded by bossy lady lizards? I blaming you for this one." The meat was deftly plucked from his fingers, and her own brand of affection was returned with nuzzles to his fingertips. Pleased that the bond was cemented, she took one more look at Gracey, before grabbing a hold of red hair and crawling her way to the top of her person's head. Once there, she rolled around, mussing up hair at the same time as getting comfortable and taking care of the itchies that came from being released from her shell.
Once again on her stomach, she stood up tall and peeped at the ceiling. This was her place, she was in charge, so it made sense that she be up the highest she could. Gracey could have that shoulder, it was at least a full human head lower that her own spot. Even more pleased, she started to bounce around on the red haired surface, when she fell, she scramble with little talons and wings to stay at her height. She was most certainly pleased with herself.
Gracey snorted. This was not how proper flits should be acting! Traditionally they stayed on shoulders. Hopefully Enciath would snap some sense into her.
"... Efficacious." That was her name, because with that small demonstrations she seemed to have shown that she was that exactly. "Effie for short I guess. How does that sound, Effie?" Whether the bouncing along, or the cheeping was an agreement, he didn't know. Gracey looked about as appalled as a firelizard could be.
Does this mean I can have a pillie now? Nopers. That's so unfair, Mine. You keep getting firelizards. I'm not TRYING to get any.
He felt a fair share of pouting from Enciath, but there was no way he was letting her have a pillie anytime soon.
