The infirmary was a good place. A place for healing. It was a place where you could try to relax as the healers bustled around and tended to you, the constant murmur of background conversation and work somewhere in the distance, or in the same room as you, depending on where you were. For one former Holdless though, right now it was just the kind of calm that came before a storm battered you. Maybe that wasn't fair, the storm had already been, and his leg had been broken in two places because of that storm. The healers had set the bone as best as they could, and he wasn't going to be walking for another few weeks on that leg, but he was alive. He should walk again.
The question that he had was different. Did he Stand again?
It had haunted him for every hour since the last, disastrous hatching. It seemed clear, he should leave the candidacy program for good, he'd only cause trauma to any dragon or wher that he ever managed to bond to, if he managed to bond to one. But he didn't want to leave the Weyr, and he simply didn't know if a Holdless could become a drudge if they weren't going to become a Dragonrider or Wherhandler. Sure, it seemed like they could...but maybe, maybe he couldn't. What he needed to do was to talk to one of the Candidatemasters...something that, if he honest with himself, he should have done seasons ago.
But he had been scared of what might happen if he did come forward, and now it was...well, he had waited too long. Now he was injured, and older yet with no real skills to go forward in the world. Not really specialized...a jack of all trades. And maybe he could get by with that, but he wanted more. Wanted more and had no idea how to get there, which was why he needed this talk with one of the Masters. It was only a few days after the hatching, and now he felt up to this talk. So when the healer came by next, he asked her if she could send down one of the Candidatemasters to talk to him. He didn't know, or care, which one it would be. Garund just needed one of them to come, and the future could be decided from there.
