The hatching had been a bust. Of course, not for the people who'd impressed, not even for the rider of the tan who'd clutched, but K'ius didn't really really care about them, or any of the new weyrlings. He didn't actively dislike them, of course, but it took a lot for Kai to really care about anything outside of his friends and now Shobhaith.
Said purple was stretched out on his couch, Jax curled in the crook of his body, eyelids half closed as he dozed. Are you going to oil me soon? The dragon's sleepily content voice flowed through his mind, waking him from his own light sleep. K'ius wrinkled his nose at the purple. "Aren't you still tired, Sho? I just fed you." Shobhaith lifted his head, eyes swirling contently with blues and greens. I want to meet the new weyrlings, I'm excited.
The weyrling snorted, stretching out - disturbing his fair of three with some irritated screeches and some pops as they went between - and sitting up in his bed. "You sure you don't mean you want to 'meet the new pink..." And Kaius froze because he understood the implications of this, of the fact that his dragon couldn't keep his eyes off of that pink. Sho liked Ghols' dragon; Sho would probably chase Ghols' dragon...and if that pink chose him...
That was just...no. Not that there was anything wrong with Ghols. Kai liked her, as much as he could like someone who thought he was an idiot...and she was pretty, but K'ius didn't like the thought of sex period right now, let alone with someone who didn't like him. Shobhaith didn't understand, and that wasn't enough to keep him from chasing the pretty pink. Does it even matter? I itch.
Kai sighed, scooting to the edge of the bed. He had wanted to go see Sandr today. He knew his best friend was probably feeling pretty rotten after not impressing again, and K'ius was sure it'd be a done deal. After all, who wouldn't want to be around... Then invite him over, but oil me! K'ius cracked a smile at his dragon. It surprised him sometimes...how big the purple had gotten. Kai's head barely reached the purple's chest. His head was as big as his dragon's eye. The dragon had just grown too quickly, and K'ius barely thought of himself as a rider, even now.
"Fine, you big baby, but I'm not oiling your fat ass all by myself." K'ius flashed a smile at the dragon. Shobhaith feigned an affronted look at the boy. Mean. It's all muscle. But he rolled over onto his side, and K'ius, helpless to the whims of his dragon, fetched his oil and the mind of a certain red firelizard who'd refused to be around him for almost six whole months. Titania, tell Sandr I want to see him. No, I don't care if you're sleeping. How would I even know? You haven't even slept in my room...don't you take that tone with me. Would you just get Aleksandr for me? The firelizard finally agreed and K'ius sighed lightly, beginning to oil Sho. "Brat"

The hatching was... good. Interesting things happened, including an accidental rock that hatched into a wher... who thought she was a dragon? Apparently she had the fighting Viridians around her paw, sent them running. The thing that mattered most this time around, was no one died... not even a hatchling. Everyone was very worried about the small black, but he impressed and everything was okay. He even managed to snag a couple of super smooth stones from the sands, with Wenth's permission. Both were colored brightly, yet still retained a glass smooth texture.
But... as happy as he was for the people who impressed, which included Ghols and his room mate he didn't know too well, disappointment and dread sort of settled heavy within his gut. Luckily today was a rest day, he just wasn't in the mood for too much, that and it was sharding cold outside. So the copper-toned hair boy was face down on his bed, arms tucked under his pillow. Zo keened at him pitifully, since they were sort of connected Zorion couldn't help but feel what he was feeling.
The other fire-lizard he sort of half adopted, stirred at his feet. Sandr ignored her proddings, and her weak mental attempt at reaching out at him. Normally he didn't mind her snipping at him for stupid things -- today however he didn't care to listen. That was until very sharp teeth closed around his leg as she practically snarled at him. Aleksandr yelped sort of caught off guard by the sudden bite and ended up rolling off the bed. There was a stupid stunned look on his face since he half landed on his feet/hands.
"What?! What's so sharding important?" he snapped his stunned, irritated expression meeting her snotty dignified one. There was a pause as if she was debating on whether she should even pass along the message, but she sent him a clear image of Kai. This was the difference between her and Zo, his mental images were always so rushed and messy. Sandr blinked surprised, and mixed feelings of oh faranth he has to face Kai now... and feelings of happiness that he can finally see K'ius.
Sandr grabbed his furred coat as Zorion half tucked himself in the collar of the coat. Blue eyes slid to Titania, "coming then?" he asked her but she turned away from him. Although she's been staying with him, she still wasn't his. Before leaving the room he clucked at his cat, who perked up "come you can see Jax."
He crossed the bowl towards the weyrlings barracks, with Zo on his shoulders and a cold footed cat in his arms. Once at the barracks Zo betweened, popping practically on K'ius with a gleeful chirrup! He missed this one, Sandr alone gets boring sometimes. Said boy was sent messy directions towards Kai's room, showing up seconds later, charming grin in place. "Got your message," he snorted lifting up his pant leg revealing a clear flit sized bite mark.
The cat in his arms jumped and made a bee line for the dog, practically running headfirst into the canine with a head bump for a greeting. Sandr grinned, stepping across the room pulling his friend into a tight hug. "Its good to see you Ka-- K'ius. And shards Shobhaith. Grow anymore and you're gunna need a bigger room." Zo chirped at him from his perch on K'ius shoulder whom he was nuzzling his face against.
Aleksandr smirked, "he didn't make you spill any oil did he? I suppose this is why you called me here?" queue playful shove, before shoving a hand into his pocket. "Almost forgot, snagged this for you. Not sure what luck you need, but its an indirect gift from Wenth to me to you. You're welcome." From his pocket he pulled out one of the smooth stones, about the size of his palm, handing it to his friend.

You're doing an awful job! What's wrong with you? Shobhaith whined from his couch, once more lifting his foot whenever K'ius had tried to oil it. The boy frowned at the great bulk that was his rapidly growing dragon. "Well, if you would stop moving, Sho, I wouldn't miss any spots. Why don't you do this yourself if you're going to be so picky?" The dragon actually had no intention of actually oiling himself, so he just grumbled softly and finally sat still so that K'ius could oil him. The pair of them fell into a silent rhythm, at least for a few moments.
...until there was a loud pop, and a firelizard betweened right over his head.
Kai wasn't expecting that, and jumped a full foot into the air, nearly dropping his oil and spilling it all over the floor. Living with so many firelizards, Sho barely reacted to the blue's sudden appearance, but Jax yiped and fell off of the couch onto the floor at Kai's feed, just as the boy got a good look at the strange firelizard...who wasn't so strange after all. "Zo, wow. Hi there!" His heart was beating a mile a minute, and he scratched the head of the firelizard just as Sho spoke. Your friend's here K'ius was rolling his eyes when Sandr walked in, and the kid couldn't believe how happy he was to see his best friend.
He didn't even have any snarky comments to Sandr about his clumsiness. He just let the other boy hug him. Sandr did a pretty good job of stroking Sho's ego, so the purple just trilled pleasantly at the boy in greeting as Jax was suddenly attacked by Vin. Just when K'ius was afraid that Sandr might break his ribs, his best friend pulled away and Kai quirked a grin at him. Aleksandr was really the only one who could bring that kind of grin out of him.
"Yeah." K'ius snorted, still smiling at Sandr and shoving his rag at his chest. "Figured since you were being sharding lazy all by yourself in the candidates' barracks, you could at least help me oil Shobhaith." He was about to turn back to grab another rag when Sandr spoke and Kai stood, surprised for a moment while the other boy handed him the stone. It was dark purple and when he moved it around, it caught the light and shined.
It was beautiful.
"This is awesome, thanks man!" Kai started, the words so utterly inadequate, but they were all he thought of, before he shoved at Sandr and turned back to the dragon, crooking a smile at him after a moment. "Sorry I didn't come and see you...I was afraid you'd be jealous of me impressing. It's...good to see you."

Aleksandr of course feigned a look of hurt as the oily rag was shoved at his chest. "Excuse you, big shot dragon rider. I still have chores and stuff to do," he snorts the mock hurt look melting back into a smile, "tomorrow" he coughed under his breath, because today due to sleepiness and other sleep causing emotional things, he had decided to do shard all today. But hanging out with K'ius sounded perfectly fine to him too, plus the thought of oiling Sho didn't seem so bad. He hasn't had the chance to be so close to a dragon for an extended period of time, and the thought of getting to know a dragon of Kai's seemed fun. Although he was sure his story would change if he had someone bothering him to oil them every day.
"I don't mind. As long as Shobhaith doesn't mind two awful oil-ers" he smirked as he dipped the rag in the oil. Smile softened when Kai thanked him for the stone, and he shrugged, "you can thank Wenth for letting us left behinds take 'em." His eyes flickered to the stone in Kai's hands, "hopefully your hide will be as shiny as that stone, eh Sho?" he grinned at the dragon.
He grew quiet for a moment as he considered Kai's apology, bringing the rag up to the dragon's very purple hide. Was he jealous? There was so much happening at that hatching he never had time to properly think about it. That or he wasn't jealous at all, and was instead upset at the fact that Ghols had a point at the time. Blue eyes flickered back to K'ius, and the smile that was on his face brought Sandr's back. "Pfft. Why would I be jealous? I wanted this for you too. I didn't drag you all the way here," never mind the help of a search dragon, "just for you to watch me impress." he'd shove Kaius back, snorting, "I wanted this for you too, " he repeated, "and Shobhaith is a great dragon. I couldn't see this happening any other way to be honest."
His eyes return to what he's doing and he frowned, "okay are you going to show me how to do this properly, or do I have to guess and get oil everywhere but the dragon?" he asked, faux look of not-amused crossed his face.... but he couldn't hold it for long before the corners of his mouth upturned into a smile. "So how is dragon rider training? Got to fly yet? He looks big enough to fly."
As the boys spoke Zo moved from Kai's shoulder onto Sho's back chirping at them and looking pleased with how high he was. The cat on the other hand, after smothering the dog with as much 'I missed yous' as possible, fell back into tormenting him. The purring cat made a point to sit on top of Jax, paws flopped over his face while he chews on his large ears.

You can’t be any worse than him. Shobhaith murmured to the boys before he just laid over onto his side, content, for all his complaining, to let them continue what they were doing. K’ius rolled his eyes at the dragon, resisting the urge to oil him a little harder than was strictly necessary, but with Sandr here, the boy’s usual irritation at the purple’s actions was somewhat soothed. The dragon flicked his tail in further acknowledgement of the boy’s words, but soon stilled, leaving Kai and Sandr to talk.
“I wanted you to impress though.” Was all that K’ius said for a moment, running his hands over the shiny, oiled, purple hide contemplatively for a moment. “I never thought, in a million turns, that I’d impress over you.” He rolled his eyes when Sandr pushed him and laughed a little. “He is pretty awesome, but there are plenty of other hatchings, yeah?” He glanced sideways over to his friend. “The tan hatching was small, I’m sure they’ll be another few gold hatchings in the meantime. You’ll get your dragon.”
He laughed, when Sandr spoke after they returned to oiling the dragon. “You should know how to do this man? Gonna make me oil your dragon for you?” The kid rolled his eyes, nudging over to grab Sandr’s hand and move the other guy’s hand down in the way that Sho liked it. He still had Sandr’s hand in his own when he snorted at the other guy’s words. “He’s not quite big enough to ride yet, but he’s fat enough that I’m sure he can handle me.”
Shobhaith let out a mighty snort, flicking his tail and smacking Kai gently in the face with it. The weyrling blinked, looked at Sandr, and then started to laugh. The laughing only increased when Zo climbed up onto the dragon and chirped at them. Sho blinked at the feeling of tiny flitter claws on his side, opened his eyes and twisted his neck to stare at the little flit. He thrummed lightly at the firelizard, now flicking the tip of his tail like an overgrown cat.
Speaking of cats, Jax was not faring well with Vin. Somehow, and the dog wasn’t sure how this always happened, he ended up underneath the cat, his ears in the cat’s mouth. How could he suffer such an indignity? Whining, Jax wriggled beneath the cat, twisting his neck to get kitty fur in his jaws so that he could get the bitey kitty off of him. Ears are not for chewing on!

"Well I didn't impress, and it doesn't really matter now." he said simply. After the second time standing, he was beginning to think about what happens if he doesn't impress within the next few turns. It wouldn't be so bad... and there was even the wher option... as much as he wasn't too fond of wher hatchings. "But I hope so.." he muttered as an afterthought. This is what he's been wanting practically forever.
But what he does know is that oiling dragons is not fun, especially when they're so sharding big. 'sandr rolled his eyes at K'ius. "Its not like I have to do this everyday. I've only done this, like what... I don't even know. Definitely no where near you.. He had tried to go back to what he was doing, maybe even actually pay attention to what Kai was doing. But Kai's hand was suddenly on his as his friend showed him what to do.
A joke came to mind, well thoughts of one came to mind like he always does when he's suddenly uncomfortable. Or at least he only thought he was uncomfortable, because as soon as he looked over at Kai his stomach sort of fluttered (as cheesy as it is to say). Aleksandr would brush it off as uncomfortable, or at least this time tried. So even as Kai laughed at Sho and whatever the shells Zo was doing, all Sandr could think about was the closeness and how he actually wasn't uncomfortable... instead suddenly sort of confused and nervous.
So the smile on his face sort of faltered some, maybe his expression softened and warmed into a look he's never given Kai in his entire life. He loved the kid, they've been friends for as long as he could remember... but when did this happen?
There was a moment where he had moved in closer subconsciously he didn't know when or how it happened, so if Kai didn't move they're faces (maybe lips) would have almost been touching. That is until Zo trying to get more of Sho's attention, slipped on a newly oiled patch. He eeped in surprise nearly falling onto the boys before pop...between he went. Though only to pop seconds after maybe, hopefully on Sho's head if he didn't move too much.
The whole action caused Sandr to jump, startled jerking his hand out from under Kai's because oh my Faranth Zo, his ridiculous firelizard. "Shardit Zo!" he hissed. The fire lizard chirruped in response, in a sort of 'its okaaay, chill... all is good' sort of manner. The boy rolled his eyes, and then cleared his throat when those blues landed on K'ius. "Sorry..." he began and then seemingly changing why as a smile split on his face. "Zo is ridiculous."
The ruckus scared a certain feline too, because he's a cat and cats just... jump at all noises. Even if Jax managed to get his jaws around fluffy cat fur and Vin had rolled off. The cat would have split under nearby furniture with his tail all puffed out.
