[A'til will be leaving, but if you have a Weyrling who wants to catch up to him, we can start another thread.]
“I can't believe you let. I just. Ugh. I can't even believe you!” The angry outburst was a lot louder than she had expected. She had thought, just maybe, he would be happy to see her there. That he'd hug her and tell her he missed her. But he didn't. His look of disbelief was quickly replaced by anger and, surprisingly, hurt. Matilda just stood there, transfixed as her brother glared at her.
“Why did you even go then, if you were going to come back? Did you even care?”
Matilda's eyes narrowed, and a scowl curled on her lips, she no longer cared if the whole candidate barracks heard.
“I cared! I still care. I was searched Amo-” A low hiss from Nevermore stopped her and she quickly fixed her mistake.
“A'til.” It was hard to tell how she actually felt. Her face said anger, but her voice was continuously smooth, at least until she said his name. Then it carried a level of rancor reserved for heated rivalries and ex-husbands. Taking a deep breath, she once again made her expression impassive.
“I still continue with my studies. I am intending to be a journeyman. I am still intending to work for Master. This will not hinder me.” Despite her attempts to stay calm, her jaw was tense and her eyes blazed.
A'til sighed and pressed the meat of his palms against his eyes, pushing until the black bloomed sparks of white. Matilda aggravated him, she managed to push his buttons like no one else had.
“Fine, fine. I should have guessed it would happen. If I was searched, I can't imagine anyone else more fit to ride a dragon along with me.” He knew getting in a fight would only anger her more, and then she wouldn't talk to him at all, and would probably take more risks.
“Or handle a wher!” She chirped, glad all their anger was past. The two fought like wild whers, but she wouldn't trade her brother for anyone else.
“Whers?” She could hear his pitch change, the fear straining it. But before he could do more, a pink blur tackled him. Then a green one, and a greyish purple one, and following that was Lachesis, chirruping with concern. A'til sputtered and coughed as Clotho, Atropos, and his own mask gave him little flit-kisses.
“Girls, come on. Leave him alone!”
Yes, please do. We have things to attend to, A'til and I. You've spoke to her now, she's ok! I wanna grab a bite to eat, and she probably has things to take care of. Come on, let's get a good spot near the pens. The viridian's voice boomed not only to A'til, but those around them.
Matilda was a little surprised at first.
“Asperath?” She asked A'til, who had plastered himself to a wall and was pulling affectionate flits from his face and shoulders.
“Oh, um yea. Come out and meet him.” A'til hadn't even introduced his sister and his bonded yet, and for a moment had forgot that she didn't know the viridian like he did. Matilda smiled a bit at her brother and waved her hand dismissively.
“Later. He's hungry, you're annoying, and I do have things to do. I promise I will. Go, scoot. I live here for now. You have got plenty of time.”
A'til nodded.
“I'll check up on you, and your studies. I'll be asking the candidate masters to keep an eye on you too.” Matilda waved to his back and whistled for her firelizards. Holding out an arm, they alighted carefully and chirped at one another. Matilda hoped she hadn't upset any of the other candidates.
“Hey girls, you wanna see who's around here? We can unpack stuff later.”
