It wasn't like she hadn't seen dragon eggs before, even though she had only seen them one time. Still, she had see them, which meant she really didn't need to go and see Callistath's clutch. Wenth's hatching she hadn't gone to watch, and before that was Minanth and Couineth's dual clutch, the only hatching she stood at and the hatching where she had impressed her beautiful orange Tuonetath. But Tuonetath was a orange, a sub-queen, which meant that she would more than likely clutch one day. So going and looking at the brooding clutches, for if she was thinking correctly there were two, probably wasn't a bad idea.
The fact that her sister's gold was one of the two clutchmothers didn't hurt her decision either.
As she made her way into the stands Tuonetath called to her rider, would you be willing to sit near the front and get a good look at the eggs? I would like to see. Yenna gave a small smile before replying, of course, love. Tuonetath had decided not to come and look at the clutch from a ledge due to not wanting to risk angering either of the mothers. This didn't diminish her desire to see the clutch though, even if it was through her rider's eyes.
Going along with her dragon's request Yenna slid into a seat in the front row of the stands. Another girl was there, a candidate by the looks of it, although she didn't pay any attention to her. But this wasn't true for the other girl. The candidate, Garna, narrowed her eyes at Yenna when she arrived. She had never payed any attention to the weyrlings from clutches before her arrival and thus failed to recognize the girl. Combine this with how she had failed to wear her knots and she believed that she was simply a random weyrfolk. With a snort she asked in a biting voice, "what're you doing here? I figure you don't have any reason to be looking at the eggs. Unless you're hoping to impress from the stands, but really, a mite like you? I don't think you'd be able to hope for anything more than a tiny little gray."
The moment the cruel words reached her ears Yenna whipped her head around, the beginnings of a snarl making its way across her face. Before she could say anything Tuonetath warned her, Yenna, be careful not to start anything rash, not at the sands.
Seeing the sense in her dragons words she forced an entirely fake smile across her face. Her voice was cold as she said, "I've already impressed, to your information. To orange Tuonetath, the largest of Dalibor's sub-queens. And I'm sorry that we can't all be gargantuan freaks like you." With that she turned away and looked back to the sands, ignoring the gasp from the candidate and glare aimed her way. Garna now felt like she was going to boil over with rage for her part, no one called her a freak. But she wouldn't get physical, not in front of a pair of queens, so she settled for letting out a hiss under her breath and looking back out onto the sands.

Jainath was avoiding the clutch, though Iola knew her dragon was torn. Still, Iola wanted to go visit, and she slipped quietly into the stands. There were some others there, including Yenna, and she moved up to join them at the front.
She was dressed rather plainly, not feeling any need to get too fancy, and just had her hair pulled back in a loose tail. Had plans to do some work on oiling some dry spots on Jainath later, so no need to get too dressed up. Though it seemed like she might have come in on the middle of something.
“Ladies,” she said easily, coming up to the side. Not sure what had been going on, but it seemed to have calmed some. Most likely due to the eggs. Hopefully the presence of others would keep things calm.
She smiled some, looking at the eggs. It was a good sized clutch, and she was hoping this hatching was going to go without too much incident. They needed a calm hatching after the chaos of the flight that lead to it.
Letorin also found his way into the Stands, already pulling out his stuff to start sketching. It was an interesting clutch of eggs, both wher and dragon. And, Letorin had to admit, wher eggs were more interesting to draw.
He nodded at the others already there, then found a quieter spot to sit. Next to him set the tube to carry a finished piece of art. Had finally gotten Callistath and Avalle’s done, though they didn’t know about it yet. But he thought the weyrwoman might like the gift. And he had already given one of the other weyrwomen, including Iola. So it wouldn’t be fair to leave her out. Eventually he’d get the weyrleaders done as well, but since he had the queens almost done, he had decided to get that taken care of.
Grinning wildly, Orkia found a spot so she could see both clutches, looking at them with a gleeful smile and wide eyes. With so many, she and her brother were sure to Impress this time. They had been waiting long enough, and she couldn’t wait to see what sort of dragon or wher they would get. It was sure to be something amazing.

Okay. He waited long enough. As much as he tried to stay away from the stands, he couldn't help but feel a pull to go there --to take a look at the eggs and mothers before the hatching day. He had yet to see much of Callistath "up close" for any period of time, and well as pretty as Couineth was he felt that Callistath was a true color of gold... and well she was the Sr. Gold here now.
He marched up to the stands to see others had the same idea. His eyes drifted to the sands gliding over Callistath and then Kalesk, and he couldn't help the smile that crossed his face at the sight of the eggs -- even the wher ones. It was now... he felt that it didn't matter if he impressed or not. Okay sure, yes he would love to impress to one... but if his wasn't there, there really wasn't anything he could do about it.
He let the sight of the eggs soothe some of his nerves, and kick up his confidence some.
After his moment, he waved to Yenna, Iola and Garna. The former two being part of his first candidate group when he arrived. They seemed to already be busy in conversation, so his eyes drifted to Letorin who had a sketchbook in hand. He smiled, the scene reminding him of K'ius who used to always have his nose in his sketchbook.
Aleksandr took a seat beside the boy on the side that didn't have his art things. "Hey!" he greeted cheerfully, grinning. "Letorin right?" he asked, his blue eyes drifting to the eggs once more. "Sketching the mothers or their lovely bunch of eggs?"

She'd done it when there were no eggs on the sands, only the dragon and rider sorting out the surplus gems. It had been before a red wher's clutch, and even that was quite risky as she hadn't paid attention to that fact. But when spectating from the stands was allowed, and for forty eggs of all colors and shapes and sizes...Dardranel couldn't resist. She'd been reading a book on wher care as many candidates were, after Callistath and Kalesk clutched at nearly the same time. There was a chance of her Impressing a wher, and she didn't look forward to having to cut her own skin. What would its name be? Darsk? Dardranesk? Dardrask? Those were names that had drifted through her mind recently.
The tall, gawky girl tip-toed into the Stands. She'd gone through a growth spurt recently, quite suddenly sprouting up a few inches. So her clothes were now a bit too short for her. Luckily there was a bigger candidate robe in the Candidate Barracks she found to wear at the hatching. There was the Harper boy - Letorin, who was sketching as usual. Then she turned to Iola, Yenna, and Garna and carefully skipped over to them.
"Hey! Everything alright? Garna, and...I've never met you two before. May I ask your names?" She peered at them closer. "I'm Dardranel, a candidate." Her eyes drifted away to the bright gold Callistath and the myriad of eggs - then to the lumpier, but also interesting clutch of Kalesk's.

Nora and Aypoth were also curious and interested to see the eggs. Aypoth stayed outside, seeing through her rider's eyes. She politely made her way into the stands.
"Hi, Letorin." She smiled at the sketching Apprentice. "Oh, there's Iola and Yenna over there! I'll leave you for now, don't want to disturb you while you're drawing." She joined the group of her fellow Rainracers and two Candidates.
"Hi there guys!" She grinned, her happy expression lessening when she saw Dardranel. "I remember you from the talent show! I kept trying to get a spot in but it was only after yours. But that's old news." She chuckled awkwardly.
"Oh, that? Don't remember." Dardranel shrugged nervously.
"Well, I do. Whatever." Nora turned her attention to Iola, Yenna, and Garna. "How are you?" She didn't pay attention to Garna, though Dardranel seemed to be attempting to melt into the background and was unconsciously moving a bit to Garna's side and then behind her.

He still couldn't understand how they'd gotten into this mess, but he might as well see what they were standing for. Lanorun sat down in the Stands quietly, looking intently at Kalesk's clutch.

Being a spectacle for others to come and gawk at was never anything Avalle enjoyed, which was half of the reason why she hadn't allowed any Candidates to come by and look at Callistath's eggs before they hatched. It always felt incredibly disrespectful, and she disliked not having the complete silence as when the Sands were empty. However, perhaps it was her desire to give back to the Weyr after such a disaster, or even because she felt a tiny bit bad that Touchings weren't allowed anymore, but Avalle had allowed Candidates and any others around to come and look from the Stands. They were being far more behaved than they had been when Callistath's first clutch had been on the Sands, but Avalle was still anxious.
The Senior Weyrwoman sighed and leaned against Callistath, running her hand idly against the Gold's shiny hide. She supposed people-watching made this mildly less boring. And Kalenna was always good to talk to, though it sort of unnerved her that she was a good deal younger than the Betahandler. They'd managed to talk a bit more over the course of their essential imprisonment on the sands, however, and Avalle found herself enjoying the Goldhandler's company. She always felt a bit of a kinship with her fellow Golds, be it wher or dragon. The 40 eggs on the Sand were also interesting to consider, and it made her rather proud that Callistath's clutch had been so large. It was a good sign.
Well, in a way. Remembering the father of the clutch made Avalle scowl, so she instead turned her attention to the Stands. Several people were sketching, which she supposed was also nice. Had she been a Candidate, she probably would have been drawn to sketch the eggs as well. By now, however, she'd seen so many eggs and clutches that it wasn't any big deal. But for them, it probably was. Their lifemate could easily be among one of the eggs in Callistath's clutch.
A familiar voice caused Avalle to turn her attention into the Stands, narrowing her eyes as her sister seemed to be causing trouble. She crossed her arms and yawned, keeping her eye on the group of her sister and the Candidates that was slowly growing in size. She disliked the Hatching Sands being a social gathering, as it felt very disrespectful, but she supposed she could always just kick them out. Remember to behave, and please keep your voices down, [/i] Callistath sternly directed towards the Candidates and others gathered around the Stands, if they'd been talking or not. Eggs or not, her children were sleeping.[/blockquote][/size]
