Name: Ashlynn
Gender: Female
Age: Sixteen Turns
Sexuality: Unknown
Location: Dalibor Wyer
Rank: Dragon Candidate
Personality:
When you first meet Ashlynn she seems very meek. Her head lowered towards the ground, and body language showing no harm. She is apprehensive of humans and dragons alike, and although she may seem full of cowardice she is just the opposite. She had her fears beaten into her from a young age, and she actually shows courage by always facing these fears and trying to overcome them. She is very quiet, choosing to listen rather than speak, although when she does speak it is polite and sincere. Ashlynn is actually incredibly intelligent although she's never had the opportunity to exercise it.
She always walks around with her eyes looking as if they want to take in every detail. Pick things to pieces, she's really just trying to look at the wyer from a new point of view. Try to be open minded and accepting of the dragons and humans around her. If you could ever break her of her fear and quiet, cold exterior you would find an incredibly warm hearted person who's confident, strong-willed, personable, and interesting.
Appearance:
Benny watched Ashlynn look down towards the ground as the search rider looked over them all, his own pale hand mixing with her hazelnut toned skin. Ashlynn used her free hand to run through her long, wavy hair. It was beautifully colored, as if you melted copper and mixed it with honey and cream. It came out to a beautiful soft color. A color that was hard to describe and yet seemed like you've seen it everywhere. He had once told her that it reminded him of the pale gold of sunrise. The Rider stopped in front of Ashlynn demanding that she come with him as a candidate. Her head lifted and her eyes flashed with worry.
Eyes that looked so different from when he first met her. The pale green was now accompanied with a pale color that looked almost like creamy honey rather than amber. Nothing bright or glowing left to the eye that she used to see out of. Her sight in that eye was very faded and blurry since that night with her father.
'No. I can't go.'
Her voice was oddly strong. It was a voice that reminded you of a smooth delicious French vanilla cappuccino. It was frothy, warm, and pleasant. It usually had a tendency to warm you from the inside out leaving a taste in your mouth that just had you aching for more, and yet she didn't like to speak often. Not if she could politely avoid it. She'd much rather keep to herself. To her own mind. For a second he thought it might work. That he might be able to keep her... but one look at that dragon riders face and it was all over.
'You have no choice. You're coming.' She just nodded and walked up to him. Benny was furious. He let go of her hand aggressively and glared as she walked up to the rider. As soon as she turned away from him he took in one last long look at her. An average height for her age, she had decent curves although you could never see them beneath her clothing. Her face, although constantly mutilated by bruises and gashes, was rather pretty if you could see past it. He would never forget her, but he felt just as betrayed by her as he did his parents. They all abandoned him for dragons. He turned away hoping to never see her beautifully ruined eyes or hear her sweet voice again.

History:
The first time I saw Ashlynn I was watching the hatching at Southern. At a first glance she would normally have been overlooked, but as it was she was the only candidate who seemed apprehensive. Not excited. Not hoping for a dragon to happily gallop over towards her, but instead standing farther back than any other candidate. He watched her eyes gaze over the eggs and her feet shuffle as if she wished to run away. Her cream and honey hair covering her face as she tilted her head towards the ground in a very subservient manner. His eyes slid over her easily as he watched the excited and the confident. But then an egg began to shake, the candidates all seemed to shake with it, trembling with excitement, but Ashlynn... that one little girl just took a deep breath and finally squared her shoulders. Her jaw was set in a determined line. Her chin high, her tangled hair fell away from her face revealing a dark bruise tainting otherwise tan skin. The bruise almost covered her face, encircling both her eye and her cheek.
The egg cracked and everyone seemed to lean towards it, but not that girl, her position stayed the same except her hands which seemed to fidget slightly, although it was hard to tell from his distance. Finally the egg cracked and the little hatchling ran across the sands looking for it's chosen one. She watched the dragon as if it was going to personally hurt her. She seemed to breathe a sigh of relief when the dragon bonded and walked off of the sands. Her eyes immediately turned back towards the rest of the eggs which were quivering and soon breaking and running across the sands. One headed towards her direction and the look in her seemed absolutely terrified. She jumped out of the little hatchlings way with the instincts of an animal, sitting in a crouch for a moment as she watched the tiny dragon. Only when it was being lead off of the sands by a happy new wyerling did she finally she stand up slowly, wincing as she did so. The rest of the hatching went rather the same. Most everyone excited and awaiting they're little dragons as this girl held her ground as if determined to deal with the situation that many would kill for.
As unhappy candidates slowly made they're way off of the sands I couldn't help but watch her, relief spreading over her face for a single moment as she shut her eyes and took a deep breath before lowering her head again and faithfully following the other candidates off of the sands. Mine! Mine! Look at the girl! She looks so scared and sad! We should save her mine! Maybe we should leave her alone.[/i] No. We must save her! Of course, my love.[/i] Altith bounded after the girl happily, jumping directly in front of her. The girl's head shot up and eyes grew terribly wide, and although she didn't back away she seemed as though she wanted to.
You look sad. Are you okay? Eyes that were already opened wide turned into saucers when Altith spoke to her, and he couldn't help but develop a small fatherly smile before apologizing for Altith.
"Don't mind Altith, he's just worried that you're upset. Don't worry about not impressing. I'm sure yours is still out there." She seemed to eye him oddly, finally taking that step back. Now at this distance he could see her face better. She could have been pretty if she was less grungy. Her face a mixture of dirt and bruises that left you to wonder which was which. Her left eye was a beautiful pale green color, the other eye too swollen to see the coloring. In that singular eye he saw fear, reasoning, and iron. I saw determination and intelligence. It was intriguing that so many contrary things would be floating in that single beautiful eye.
"I'm F'del, and this is Altith." I offered my hand to her, watching her take it as apprehensively as if it was about to strike her. I looked directly into that pale eye as I griped her hand, abruptly letting go as she winced. Watching her hand return to her side I wondered what could have made them so gnarled and unseemly. They must have pained her even lieing at her side. And yet she had still given me her hand. How curious.
'Ashlynn.' Her voice was soft but lovely. 'But I don't want to impress.' The more I paid attention to her the more interesting she became.
"Interesting. Why not?" Here Altith jumped into the conversation. Why? Dragons are fun and happy and amazing! Her eyes flashed to Altith and stayed there even as she spoke.
'I-' She looked down at the floor sadly for a moment before looking into Altith's eyes and spoke directly to him although her eyes still gleamed with fear and her body tensed as if to run. 'I don't mean to be rude, Altith.' It seemed hard for her to refer to Altith by his name. 'but I can't impress.' Here she turned to look directly into my eyes, her own pale eye fierce and determined to make her point, 'I'm not fond of dragons... and I never will be.' She turned and went to walk away, turning after a few steps and mouthing the words 'I'm sorry.'
Interesting didn't begin to describe her. I began to look for her as I sat in the dining hall or walked amongst candidates. However, it wasn't until a few days later, in the lake, that I began to understand why. She was swimming rather contently, the swelling having gone down enough to see the golden coloring of her right eye.
She was the only one swimming, her eyes closed as she laid on her back, lightly pushing the water to glide herself across the surface. Then splash, a red dragon landed right beside her in the lake scaring her half to death. She swam back to shore as if her life depended on it, huffing and puffing once she reached it. She was frightened of them.
"You don't have to fear them, you know." She looked at me with a glance that I couldn't identify before walking away.
She always avoided the dragons as much as possible and looked at other humans as if they would hurt her, and yet she never backed down or walked away. At the time Esperagus, Altith, and I were planning on going to Dalibor Wyer and I worried about her.
I invited her along and merely got a head nod as an answer. This happened quite often with her. If she could avoid speaking she would. Only when we reached Dalibor did she really open up to me. When we first reached Dalibor Wyer she kept her head down and avoided everyone, hiding in her new rooms. A few nights later, however, there was a soft knock on my door, and when I opened it to reveal Ashlynn I must admit I was mildly surprised.
'I'm sorry to bother you... but I wanted to properly thank you.' I smiled at her as Altith bounded up to her, causing her to stiffen a bit although the corners of her mouth almost twisted into a smile at the dragons presence.
Come in, come in! I missed you! She nodded a thank you to the dragon before stepping into the room looking around the quarters thoroughly before speaking.
'You showed me kindness in a strange place, and I could never thank you enough for that... both of you.' Here she looked at Altith and truly smiled, quite a bright and glorious thing. Her smile made you feel warm and happy. Her voice as well, now that she was projecting it across the room was very pretty.
"You are more than welcome to it Ashlynn."[/i] Of course! She smiled again, and I sat on the edge of my bed watching her taken a seat on the floor. Such odd habits.
Why are you scared of me? My eyes widened a bit at Altiths lack of couth but as my mouth opened to apologize those different colored eyes caught my gaze shaking her head.
'No. It's fine. I'll tell you... both of you.' She gazed at the floor for a moment gathering her thoughts before looking past me, at the wall, and speaking. 'Both of my parents were dragon riders. I don't even remember what my mother looks like, but my dad used to visit me all the time. His dragon, Marzenth, was like a brother to me. Marzenth became very very sick and I was too young to know what that really meant. I ran up to the great brown dragon excited and happy, when he turned and lashed out at me.' She paused and stood up exposing a deep and permanent scar running up her stomach. 'A few days later Marzenth went inbetween, and my father was dragonless.'
She took a deep breath, any remnants of her smile gone as her eyes seemed to harden and her voice lost emotion, as if she was talking about someone else completely. Someone far far away from here. 'My dad raised me on his own then. We moved from Inland Wyer to Inland Hold, but the torture of losing his dragon weighed heavily on his shoulders. He couldn't live without Marzenth... He blamed me, and honestly so do I. He began to resent dragons and bred the feeling into me. Anytime dragons would come to the hold my father would... punish me for getting near any of them. One day I was forsearched into Southern, and you know the story from there.' She stood up and left the room, shutting the door behind her quietly.
Now that you've heard the story from F'del, there are a few important points that she isn't quite ready to talk about yet. Her father was her idol as a child and having the constant knowledge that she ruined his life killed her, without him proclaiming it to her constantly. That was all it was at first, merely him yelling. The first time her father had ever hit her was the first and only time her mother came to Inland Hold.
Her mother rode in on her red dragon to see her bright and happy little girl looking down at the floor with sad eyes and immediately rounded on her father threatening to take Ashlynn back to the drudge that was raising her. She sat outside avoiding the great dragon at all costs. Mine's daughter. Her eyes widened at the red dragon's addressing her at all. Normally her mothers dragon silently brooded in the corner, not wanting anything to do with the little girl who stole her rider's attention occasionally. It was the first time the dragon had ever spoken directly to her. It wasn't your fault. She almost cried tears of happiness as she looked up at the beautiful dragon with awe and reverence. This was when her mother stormed out and flew off into the sunset. She never saw her mother again.
That, however, was the turning point for her father. He couldn't handle it anymore. The pain. She can remember him shouting at her. 'You want to look at dragons! I'll never be able to see my dragon again! You don't deserve to see them!' She remembered being confused and frightened as he screamed at her. Telling her that she isn't worthy of looking at them, that she shouldn't have eyes to see them.... and then he did it. He forced her head back against a table holding her down with the force of his body and holding her eyelid open with one hand as her grabbed a small knife with the other stabbing into the golden orb.
She lost her sight in her right eye that day. After that her dad was never the never the same. It was often that she was hit or slapped around, and she always took it. Never going to a healer, never crying. She began to numb to pain and those around her. The only friend she had was Benny. She had met Benny when she first moved to Inland Hold. He had been the son of two dragon riders, and resented dragons because they had taken his parents away and left him abandoned and alone. Benny was the only comfort she had, the only person half sane that would even speak with her. When she was forsearched both Benny and her father had looked ready to kill before she was flown off into the night.
Dragon Preference:
I don't think I actually want her to impress right away, because it's hard to tell who she really is behind her traumatized self. But she's open for all kinds of mauling or kindness.
