Name:
Nila, formerly of Benden Weyr
Gender:
Female
Age:
Twenty-four
Sexuality:
Bisexual
Location:
Dalibor Weyr
Rank:
Wingrider
Personality:
Upon first meeting the young woman, it's clear to anyone she's a natural leader. Although quiet, she is a doer, promptly gathering any useful information, analyzing it, and then putting it into action. Nila is tremendously insightful, and understands concepts and other ideas quickly. However, she is not one to instantaneously take the lead - rather, it is common for her to remain in the background until clearly needed. Adaptable and level-headed, Nila is known for her effective decision-making, although she can seem rather gutsy at times.
She likes things organized, always keeping careful note of everything important. Despite her vast and keen memory, it's very common for her to write down things throughout the day, whether for her own security or in thought of others. Speaking of security, Nila is not fond of the unexpected. She much prefers to know plans ahead of time, and is quite uncomfortable around situations she has little-to-no control over. Although not usually one to step up and suggest something, Nila won't hesitate to speak up when she feels something is wrong. She prides herself on her intuition, and when feeling a gut instinct, nearly always follows it. It's difficult for her to express herself, especially with her emotions, and so can be easily misunderstood.
If you need something to get done, you can trust Nila to do it. A Jack of all trades, she likes to keep her hands busy, whether helping to plan the upcoming Gather or cleaning foliage from the Weyr walls. This does sometimes lead her to take on more than she can handle, as Nila finds it hard to say "no" to someone in need. She most prefers to work alone, but as a dragonrider and part of a Weyr, understands that most of her work is done while part of a team.
Nila's fearless as well, a daredevil among her peers. Being bonded with a dragon only doubles the fun, in her opinion. Because of that, she's very independent, seeing relationships as mere ties that would attempt to pull on her heartstrings if they didn't agree with her actions. She's a loner, after all, dependent only upon her dragon, avoiding deep attachements at all costs. This does not mean, however, that Nila is a prude. Rather, quite the opposite. Rather than fulfilling a person's emotional needs, she is right there to satisfy their physical needs, spending a great deal of time in another man or woman's bed than in her own.
She spends a great deal of time in thought about the world - despite the fact that she is not the type of person to get into someone's personal business, it is a goal of herself to do good whenever she sees fit. The thoughts and feelings of others, however, do not strike her fancy. Unless they're a superior, she finds her own mind to be perfectly capable of rational thought with limited outside help. Her decisions are her own, after all, and therefore choices made should be a strictly individual matter. This can be a fault of hers, however. As she is quick to voice a judgment she has made, and goes with her gut feeling, it's very common that she genuinely believes she is right - however, she does not communicate those feelings well. Because of that, she can sometimes blame others instead of herself for misunderstanding her. At times, she does dismiss others far too quickly, which can get her into a bit of trouble.
Despite the fact that she may seem rather standoffish, it is not the case that Nila does not at all feel affectionate for anyone else. Rather, she simply does not feel the need to express her emotions about a person. When forced to speak about feelings, Nila finds it awkward and jumbled, which she does not like in the slightest.
Overall, while seeming rather stern and aloof to some, others see the great potential and natural leadership in her, a strong, focused woman with a lot of heart for what she believes in, certainly not a force to be reckoned with.
Appearance:
Skin the colour of sand is what most notice about her, dark-complexioned and as tan as the day is long - a combination of genetics and the Pernese sunshine. Her slender and elegant frame suits her well, although Nila's a little shorter than average, standing at about four inches above five feet. With long legs and a short torso, at times she might can seem a bit disproportioned, but her face well makes up for it.
Stately and serene, with a nose that could be only described as "patrician," she is not one to show her emotions on her face. Full lips hide a deeper, more husky voice, while her eyes - large and wide, dark hazel pupils framed by obscenely long lashes - seem to hold many secrets. Nila has a mysterious appearance, preferring to drape herself in long fabrics while not in riding gear. It's rare for her to leave her head uncovered as well: although her face and neck are clearly visible, her shortly-cropped black hair is usually covered with a piece of fabric wrapped around for convenience.
Family:
A'lan, rider of brown Nepeth, of Telgar Weyr - father.
Anchal, rider of red Hadith, of Benden Weyr - mother.
Lillith, rider of pink Selth, of Ista Weyr - sister.
Sofia, rider of red Carbeth, of Benden Weyr - sister.
Isobel, rider of blue Pencarth, of Fort Weyr - sister.
Pets:
None.
History:
Born and raised in the Weyr, Nila has been around dragons all her life. The Weyrbrat was sired from A'lan and Anchal, a Wingsecond and young woman who'd been friends in their childhood. Nila was the youngest of three, her elder sisters well ahead of her in age, the youngest being eight when she came into the world. The match between the two parents was on and off, resulting in the birth of the four girls, although their personalities greatly clashed. Much like her dragon, Anchal was beautiful, but had a fierce temper. His cool countenance contrasted with hers - and there were those who hoped the yin would balance out the yang, but to no avail. Half a turn after Nila was born, they separated for good, her father transferring himself to Telgar Weyr shortly afterwards.
She remained in the care of her mother and sisters, a family of all females. Her mother and eldest sister had their own dragons, of course, and her next-eldest sister, Sofia, had just impressed the previous year, when Nila was only three. With a family full of dragonriders, there were high hopes for the remaining two girls. Isobel was already showing talent, going between with a fellow rider as often as possible, clearly showing her fearlessness.
Nila's childhood flew by, the remaining sister eventually Impressing a pink and transferring to Fort Weyr, following in Lillith's footsteps. Her mother's temper had remained all throughout her childhood, although it deepened in passion once Nila was the last bird left in the nest. It was never abuse, no, but the stress of dealing with both an angry woman and an angry dragon led Nila to spend a great deal of time away from the company of her mother.
Her sights turned to assisting those in need. A relatively well-known child around the Weyr, folk were eager to give the odd chore every now and then, simple things and the like. The young girl was a great help to all, but especially to the Headwoman. Nila greatly enjoyed getting her hands dirty, having a hands-on part in keeping the Weyr running. Learning patience, diligence, and a good work ethic, eventually growing to have a strong sense of duty to the place in which she lived and worked, Nila became a very familiar face around Benden. It was not uncommon to see her busy with a myriad of tasks - helping the Harpers with tutoring, keeping track of tithes being delivered, or even simply tinkering with the agenothree containers.
Her eyes were set on the skies, however, constantly finding herself lost in thought, daydreaming about one day being a rider just like the rest of her family. Upon turning fifteen, Nila was invited to attend her first Hatching. It was a joyous occasion, and everyone expected her to Impress, even, perhaps, of queenly standards. But to everyone's dismay - including her own - she was left ignored by the young Hatchlings, one of only a few left standing at the sidelines at the end of the day. Twice more did she stand upon the hot Sands in her candidate's robes, and twice more was she rejected.
Nila began work as an attendant to the Headwoman, focusing her efforts on keeping a ship-shape Weyr. A favourite of those who could see her leadership skills and optimistic attitude, she quickly excelled.
Her Impression to Forth was merely by chance. At eighteen turns, she'd given up on being a rider. It was through the encouragement of a friend that she stood upon the Sands once more as a Candidate, although her hopes were not high. The mottled husks began to crack one by one, the brightly-coloured hatchlings with their damp wings approaching Candidates as they chose, locking eyes to applause all around. It just so happened that Nila's eyes focused with a black, his wings still damp, a shard of egg still stuck to his nose. The bonding was instantaneous. From that point on, everything changed.
Dragon Name:
Forth
Dragon Age:
Seven
Dragon Color:
Black, with a very slight hint of blue, especially along the spine.
Dragon Length:
Twenty feet in length.
Dragon Personality:
Forth is more of a broody persona - just like other blacks, he prefers to keep silent unless absolutely necessary. Nila and Forth have cultivated a strong connection between the two of them, rarely even having to think to each other to understand the other. They pick up on the slightest cues from one another, through way of stance and subtle looks.
Despite the fact that Forth is a fighter - and a good one at that - he avoids conflict through any means possible. Confrontation is not his forte, and he's never much liked angry yelling, anyway. Fighting between mates is something he's never done in his lifetime. Flights are something different entirely, but even then it's been rare for him to participate. He does believe there is good in everyone though, or at least would like to believe it. Just like his weyrmate, it's difficult for him to express himself, and typically holds back his thoughts and feelings on a matter except to those he is closest to.
Forth is rather fond of firelizards, and is frequently found engaging in play with them in his spare time. Flitters are the exception to a rule though: Forth typically does not enjoy much company other than his bonded. He cares greatly for the well-being of others but, unlike Nila, prefers to take a hands-off approach to things. He is, however, a very responsible dragon, and the two make a great team both while in combat and out.
Dragon Appearance:
Forth is on the larger side than average for his color, although maintains a sleek physique. Everything screams long and elegant, and he prides himself on using those great wings for silent flight. If observing the dragon, one would notice how it seems he takes great care and consideration with every step. Forth does not make moves carelessly, that is certain. Slinky might be a good word to describe him.
Nila takes great care to keep that ebony hide as clean as possible, oiling the jet colour with great care. In the sunlight, a faint navy tinge can be seen mingling with the deep black, most particularly along his spine and tail.
Dragon History:
It took quite an effort to break out from the egg, one hindleg kicking there in the air before more limbs broke the mottled husk into shards. He knew in the egg, if that was even possible. Frail wings still damp, nose still covered in a shard, the shiny, jet black hatchling had promptly made his way across the Sands in the blink of an eye. She had not been looking at the time; Forth made a loud chirp, drawing Nila's attention just as Impression was made.
After bowlful after bowlful of meat being practically forced down his throat, day in and day out, he grew quickly. It did not take long before their first flight. Forth remembered it perfectly, both dragon and rider amazed at his dexterity and stealth despite a comparably formidable size. They entertained themselves with loop-de-loops and long flights, eventually travelling between to visit Nila's mother and sisters. The two became skilled at fighting, and after reaching maturity, were made into part of the wing as fighters.
It was in his fourth year of life that he first flew a female. She was a white, fresh into adulthood, on her first Flight. It was a lengthy flight, eventually narrowing down to Forth and a Brown, he himself winning in the end. It was an accomplishment, and ended in a good-sized clutch, but Forth didn't think much of it. It was certainly not a main goal of his to mate with as many others as possible. Nila took care to make up for that which he had no interest for.
There was one other flight after that, a young pink, Forth losing out to a fellow Black, but it was surprising to many to see such a capable, handsome dragon generally ignoring the other sex, keeping to himself or his rider the majority of the time, if not entirely. Not a turn later, Nila and Forth packed up what little they had and transferred to Dalibor Weyr. The move was more unsettling to her than to him, as Forth had little to no ties to their former Weyr. Material possessions and physical attachments did not matter much to him, in the end; he could easily leave them behind in the past and feel no regrets, just as he did.[/color]
