Name: Vareskel (V’skel)
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Location: Western HarperHall
Rank: Dragon Candidate
Personality:
There is one word to describe Vareskel: Confidant. He has confidence in himself, confidence in his abilities, and confidence that he can and will succeed in life. He is one of those boys who just let’s you know that he is well-aware of his abilities, and he will not underestimate himself.
Vareskel is a quick learner, resulting in him being a decent teacher. He does have one problem when it comes to teaching: he gets easily frustrated whenever someone can not catch on quickly. It is something that kept him away from helping younger kids in the HarperHall, because the last thing he wanted to do was to keep kids from having a love of learning thanks to him.
He also can be pretty frustrating himself, given the fact that he thinks that everyone, no matter who they are, is friendly. Someone can tell him to go get hit by Thread, and he’ll laugh it off as a joke. It has caused him quite a few problems in the past, but he never seems to mind.
He’s a pretty nice guy, despite his flaws. He enjoys good conversation, having friends, and shameless flirting. If he sees a girl who catches his eye, he can, and will, attempt to charm her. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but that never stopped him from trying.
Appearance:
Vareskel is like a pillar; he is strong and sturdy.
Hitting a good 6’1, Vareskel is tall, and he finds that it allows him to tower over other people. While he knows that slouching can help when it comes to not being intimidating, he can’t find it in himself to kill his posture. He has a build that suggests that he was either never gangly in his youth, or that he managed to fill in quickly; he’s muscular, but not too much so.
His light brown hair, which always seems to get in his way, just brushes against his shoulders. Vareskel has a tendency to run his fingers through it, as to get it out of his way, which results in it achieving a slicked-back look.
At any given moment, Vareskel can be found smiling. He’ll smile at anything, be it a rude comment or a joke. While it’s something that he knows can bother people if they are attempting to insult him, he cant help it; he just likes to smile.
Vareskel can be found wearing comfortable clothing; usually it’s just a simple tunic and slacks. He tends to wear what’s practical, and what he feels is comfortable. Why ignore comfort and use for something that just looks good?
Family:
Varsil, 45, Farmer
Abila, 34
Silivhan, 16, Farmer
Ilarnia, 15
Vasili, 11
Pets:None
History:
As the firstborn child of Varsil and Abila, Vareskel was expected to do many things for the family, seeing as they lived on a small farming cothold. He was expected to work, he was expected to be out in the fields, and he was expected to be a good child.
His life continued to be the same for many Turns; it was an endless workday to him. He found himself out on the fields daily with his father in order to continue living. Things were hard for the family, seeing as the weather was always unpredictable, but they got by.
The first winter when they were a little short of food, Vareskel understood what it was like to be a farmer. They took risks, and sometimes those risks were not worth it. The family survived, of course, though the season was harsh and unforgiving. His brother Silivhan loved the winter; the boy loved the snow, the cold, and everything about the season. Vareskel, on the other hand, decided at the tender age of six turns, that he absolutely hated the winter. It brought death.
Vareskel saw his first dragonrider when he was only seven turns old.
Vareskel was outside, working with his father and brother when Silivhan first pointed at the sky, yelling, “look!” The boy paused, looking up to where his brother had been pointing.
It was the first time that either of the boys saw a dragon, and they automatically confirmed it as a Green. It was a pretty thing, and the two of them refused to stop talking about it for a long time. Dragons were amazing creatures, after all!
When Vareskel was fifteen turns, Varsil had an “exciting” announcement: they were going to move to the Western continent. While the rest of the family was excited over the trip, Vareskel could not fathom why it would be a good thing. It was a forsaken little piece of land; it was uninhabited for a reason! Though he protested, the decision was already made. The family would relocate.
It was during the relocation process that Vareskel first ran into a Harper. Sure, the boy loved to sing, and he was pretty good at it, but that was nothing that could do anything for him in life, right? The Harper immediately got him interested in the Craft, and with the blessings of his family, Vareskel decided to become an apprentice and go to Western Hold with the Harper.
Proud of his bass-baritone, Vareskel excelled in singing. When it came to instruments, he had a bit more trouble with them, but with enough practice, he slowly began to figure out how they should be played. He, unlike a few others there, was not tone-deaf.
He loved his time at the Harperhall; there, he could cultivate his talents and allow himself to continue growing. He would be able to graduate and become a Journeyman, which would then allow him to be able to travel from hold to hold and help others with Pern’s ballads and duties.
It should be noted that Vareskel is pretty versatile; he is able to adapt to many situations and environments. When changes in his plans come, he goes along with them, hoping to become better than he already is because of it. But could he expect a change in his plans to become a Harper?
Dragon Preference:
I have no preference in a dragon; I actually would prefer to be surprised. As for a mauling, I say go for it. I can't say I mind having Vareskel slapped around a bit (or a lot).
