Shani has always been well-off when it came to money, but the woman has never, and will never, flaunt it. The only thing she indulges in when it comes to financial matters is her apparel. Many assume that she simply leeches from her family's money, but most do not know that the money she spends is self-earned. The garments that she has today are garments that she has collected over turns, and even then she has only a few. This female is like tinder just ready to catch fire, and if someone assumes this straight to her face or worse, behind her back, she is on them either physically or verbally beating them to a pulp. Pity to whoever dares challenge her or cause her temper to flare. Despite how thin she is, the girl is not afraid to throttle someone even while wearing her most elegant outfit. In fact, if her clothes tear in the process, it is even more of a reason to unleash her fury, isn't it?
Sarcastic when she wants to be, angry when she needs to be, Shani does not hold back when it comes to making a decision. She has a sultry voice, however, she does not use this to her advantage when it comes to sensuality. If there is no chemistry between herself and another person, then she can be a bit tough to get along with. She may dress somewhat feminine and fancy, but this does not stop her from being one of the boys. If she finds someone who is being bullied, she will most likely stick up for the underdog. It is just a drive that is within her. If someone looks like they need help, she will try to do so even if the action is not welcomed. Shani likes to make friends, and feels very strongly for protecting her loved ones. If something is not fair then she will try to rectify that. Spunky and a little crazy, this girl is no stranger to having a good time.
Over time her temper has worsened. With the loss of her beloved Irenes being she has not been afraid to snap at people even the highest of ranks. Of course, this could be due to the fact that she pays no attention to who is who, and she may not even be aware that said person is of high rank.
Faults: Short-tempered, brash, stubborn, can be a nasty person to mess with.
Strengths: Headstrong, stubborn, confidence, (despite being easily angered) open-minded. Loyal.
Loves: Sweets, friends, laughing, riding runners.
Hates: People she doesn't get along with well, the uptight individuals, being bored. Cruelty, someone being a bully.
Anything Else?: She secretly likes cute animals. Also, if you happen to be female, around, and can end up tolerating her, you just may be forcibly turned into a dress up doll. :3

Shani is thin and can be considered wirey. Her eyes are narrow and her lashes are long, caging wild brown-green irises. For a woman of Pern, she has taken care of herself to the point of vanity, and her once delicate, peachy toned flesh has taken a hint of tan. Her skin has also been worn, losing its smoothness due to working out in the sun for turns.
Shani cannot be considered voluptuous since she has a slender frame and a medium sized bust. When she was younger, she was called a plank for her lack of hips. With stark-ebony hair, it reaches the middle of her back but is almost always pinned up in an elegant bun, or hidden by what most of the Pernese consider outrageous hats.
She is a woman who is not afraid to decorate her face with make-up. The young woman uses many earthly and dark shades to use on dab onto her eyelids. Shani's outfits make it very obvious that she is on the more well off side of the coin. Many fancy dresses, often made with rare cloth, is practically all that she owns, but in turn this means that she does not own a lot of clothing. This is not to say these items were gotten in a matters of months, for acquiring the money for this sort of clothing took time and effort when working for her mother from a young age. For riding, and other manual work, she has customized outfits to fit her needs.
Pain has been something she had dealt with, and been dealt. Shani never expected to have something so tragic happen to her so early in her turns. The Candidate made sure to not fall into the trap of debilitating depression, but even she has her moments. She does force the subject of moving on a bit too strongly, and if she were to see an attractive man or woman, she is not adverse to making her interests known. Still, Shani cannot seem to take it any further than casual flirtation, it simply pains her too much.

History:
Shani was born into a rather large, financially successful family. By large, try two parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and four younger sisters and one older brother. Yikes. One of the most well off families of the North Continent, Shani's family has higher ranks in various Crafthouses, Holds, and even owns and rents different houses within the Holds. The most successful area in which her family specializes in deals with both her mother and father, who are into the business of tanning and weaving unique clothing for those of Pern.
Shani wasn't like any of her other sisters. Being the second oldest of the children, she was actually more like her older brother. Shani has always had an eye for fashion, but it's about the only real feminine thing about her. Everything else is all about being tough. Even when it comes to wooing the ladies or men, when it comes to potential interests, her methods could be considered more of a masculine trait than a feminine one.
Since the beginning of her birth, Shani had heard countless of stories of the dragon riders of Pern. Several newer colours had also intrigued the woman. Iron, and grey were some of these new colours, and it only aroused the girl’s curiosity more. She knew what the dragon riders role was on Pern. Even though they were in the middle of an interval and many people focused more on their Holds and welfare, rather than Impressing, the thought of bonding with one of the flying beasts was too much. Against her parents will, at least initially, the tom-boy dashed at the chance to try and Impress one of the magnificent fighters of Pern to become a dragonrider. Nothing else enchanted her more than being able to ride on the backs of the flying beasts. With forceful convincing, Shani got her way and was able to have a chance at Impressing. Her parent’s only requirement is that she would only be able to have the chance of Impressing if she were to be searched, first.
Igen Weyr was the Weyr that she eventually ended up in after having been Searched. The young woman could remember exactly what the large, yet serpentine blue dragon that had searched her looked like. His hide was like the ripples of the ocean water. Hope of Impression had once again enchanted her.
It was the day of the Hatching. The moment was alive, electrified with the excitement and hope that radiated in the Hatching sands. She had already made some friends that she would soon disappear from her life, as life at Igen Weyr would not be a permanant one. A fellow Candidate caught her attention, and for their short time together, this other candidate would be the one she would love most, the love of her life, who captivated her with every thing she did: Irenes. The moment she had set eyes on Irenes and had gotten to speak to her, her heart had thundered. Shani was unaware of what would come of this girl and herself at the time, and on a darker note, was unaware of the great damage their soon-to-be relationship would bring further on. As Candidates they announced their love for each other, everything would be held off just in case one or both Impressed, and their dragons would mature old enough so that no damage was made. For now, her sole focus was on the chaotic but magnificent Hatching before her.
For now at 17 turns, her heart raced with excitement as the eggs hatched. Numerous eggs bore beautiful dragonets, many that were surprising and even the strange, newer colours of Pern. This Hatching was an amazing event, and constantly she found herself bewildered at the goo-slick creatures that emerged from each shell. Yetnothing was more amazing to Shani than the glorious, sea-green dragonet that strode to Irenes with pride. Cheering her beloved friend on, she awaited and hoped for her own companion to spill out of the oval egg and come to her.
The girl waited, and waited, and waited yet, but nothing came to be. Slowly but surely the anticipation began to wane along with her hope. She wished beyond anything that a dragonet would come to her and choose her, and yet none came. Cursing at the sight of the last egg, the Candidate's hopes were grim, and sure enough the last dragonet of the Hatchlings Impressed to someone else. The young woman was hit with a fit of despair, closing herself off for a short 3 weeks of time. When she could, Irenes would be there to help and try to cheer Shani up, and eventually it worked. After all, there would be more eggs to be hatched, and for now she would support her love in every way that she could.
The next, most memorable event to happen to this spit-fire femme was Irenes. Even as a Candidate, Shani had chosen to be with her best friend: the one who was her pillar, who held her back, who calmed her down, and completed her. The lovely, brown-haired female had plain clothing, was not necessarily the most feminine girl around, and seemed to be the type of person that Shani would normally overlook, but that was not the case. She was utterly in love with Irenes and eventually after a turn of the faithful Hatching, their love was proven and their bond made clear to all. As Irenes' Green rose into the air to be caught, it was Shani herself who guided the woman into her weyr to keep her safe, and claim her as her own. After that, the two were inseparable. Shani would work around the Weyr, while Irenes would be off taking care of a dragonrider's duty when she needed to.
Of course, the 18 turn old was riddled with worry while her rider-mate was away. Thread had not been an issue for a long time, but it did not cease her dread. Strange people had been roaming Pern, those that aimed to harm instead of help. These people were raiders, thieves, roving gangs, and that kind of sort. In the Northern Continent, Shani had heard of these people for quite some time, but despite her worries, she did not think to be cautioned of these people as incidents involving them were far and few in between, especially inWeyrs.
Nearby Igen Weyr were many Holds, some large and well known, while others were small. It was at one of the smaller Holds that Irenes and Shani had found themselves one day, attending the local Gather and shopping at the many stands that were on display. The day was bright, if slightly windy, and there were many people about. It was not nearly as crowded as other Gathers that Shani had gone to, but the festivity was just as engaging.
It was late afternoon/early evening when Shani sighed, feeling the stress on her ankles from all of their walking. Irenes was still bounding with much energy and had yearned to go join the Gather dances, so they had decided to split up for the time being. Wandering around aimlessly, thoughts of Impressing once again crept into the slender female’s mind. It had been so long since Shani had even thought about attending another Hatching. It was true that she had felt crushed when no dragon had come her way, rainbow eyes a whirlwind of colour, but it was more-so that she had felt too busy and too happy to even think of trying again. She had spent all of her time with Irenes when she could, and when she could not, she was hard at work tending to where she was needed.
After much toiling around, Shani found herself just outside of the Hold’s walls, and from there she sat upon the ground where her beloved’s green was just in view. Watching the green spiral around and soar acrobatically, playing with other dragons caused her mind to drift even more to thoughts of Impressing. Just why had she given up in the first place? Irenes would never care if she decided to try to Impress, in fact, she knew her love would support her all the way. There was the fact that her age was almost at the limit of Impressing, but she still had a few years left. Would a dragon look at someone who was older?
It was while she was lost in these thoughts that the first tragedy in her life occurred.
Shani had never felt like an unlucky person. She wrote things off that would be considered unlucky as just another challenge to get through. What had happened that late afternoon would change her mind completely.
Brown-green eyes were focused upon the dragons playing in the skies, and she had pulled her knees to her chest and rested her elbows on her knees. Her head was cradled in her palms and Shani was lost in her own world of thoughts. Far off, the sounds of fiddles playing and people singing were stopped and replaced by screaming. Outside, away from all of the commotion, Shani had not at first noticed the screams or the terror happening just within the Hold. It was not until the dragon abruptly began to plummet to the ground that the girl was knocked from her trance. What was the green doing? She had just vanished. One minute she was there, the next she had gone Between. The elegantly dressed girl waited for the dragon to come back, but she never did. Many riders send their dragons Between momentarily, but Irenes would not have done that without at least a warning.
Then the dragons began to bay, their trumpet-like calls shattering Shani’s thoughts like leaves in the wind. Immediately they all vanished in the air, but unlike the green, they had reappeared over the Hold’s Gather.
That was also when the sudden, cold absence of feeling attacked Shani, and hesitatnly she rose to stand and bolt into the Hold. It was chaos. There was massacre in the streets, but it seemed to be concentrated on only one part of the Gather. Her senses screamed at her to turn and run away from where all of the yelling was coming from, but she overrode those sense with one person in mind. Irenes, where was Irenes!?
By the time she arrived, the raiders had already left, too terrified to stay for long with the dragons about, but too bold not to have attacked in the first place. There were only a handful of those dead, and many where grieving the loss of their merchandise, valuables, and some their loved ones. As Shani walked the narrow passageways where they chose to attack, her heart stopped. In the middle of the street was her beloved Irenes, a pool of blood slowly growing from beneath her. A scream arose from her throat, and she could see nothing but the brown-haired girl who laid in the street.
“Irenes!” Tumbling to the ground, Shani was at first hesitant to touch the other girl in fear of harming her. Irenes had been training to be a healer before she was to become a dragonrider, and it was now that Shani had remembered the small facts that the rider had taught her. Placing a hand on the side of the girl’s neck, she waited to feel the faint rhythm of a pulse. Was it true? Was she not placing her hand in the right area?
Gently, Shani lowered her ear to Irenes’ chest, listening desperately for any sign that she was alive, but the cold fact settled in her mind. There was nothing but silence. Gingerly she grabbed the female by the shoulders and brought her close to her so that she was in a sitting position. The wound was straight in the middle of her back, and the knife had already been torn out. A sob bubbled to Shani’s lips. It could not be true. It was not. She had left her alone, left her without her protecting her. Of course there would have been nothing she could have done, but the guilt she felt sent a trembling wave of sorrow throughout her body. In the middle of the street, surrounded by chaos and panic, Shani sat alone embracing the body of her loved one while tears spilled down her pale cheeks.
After that, no longer could the hot-tempered female stand living near that Hold or near that Weyr. Even the continent seemed to have a stinging reminder of what had happened. Her family offered to take her back in to live with them, but the girl refused. It was a blow to her heart, but she would not wilt underneath the pressure of the memory that had been haunting her. Instead, Shani moved to the Western Continent, to a Hold that was near a Weyr known as Dalibor. It was a different climate, a different setting, and she was surrounded by different people that she had no idea about.
A turn later, at 19, Shani is still not completely healed from the event. As happy-go-lucky as she behaves, there is a much darker, and much brittle side to her. She has become somewhat bitter and snappish, even so far as to snap at a stranger or two for little to no reason. There are points in time where she feels wounded from the emotional pain of having lost someone so dear to her, but she is the type to shove it away forcibly with a smile. She may force these emotions away, but not to hide it so that others do not find out about it. She will make herself smile in order to get over what has happened, as dwelling over things has never been her style. Within, she knows that Irenes would never allow her to be this way, so she dedicates herself to being better day-by-day. Other than her recent history, she is still the girl she once was, but with Irenes in her memory, there has not yet been a thought yet dedicated to Dragonriding. Currently she resides in Crescent Hold, but if she is Searched, her thoughts on dragonriding would more than likely change.
