C'fael felt helpless as a babe. Helpless as the Weyrwoman's child was at this instant. Yes, they were going to get him back... but everything in him cried out to be there himself, to help. With Rem by his side, they had helped so many other times! And now... they could do nothing but be ordered to hide like children.
C'faelmine, Ansyth said softly, It is because they fear for my clutchsibs and cousin-clutch that they will not let you help. You know this.
C'fael sighed at the brown dragonet's logic, rubbing the closest eyeridge of the full, but not yet sleepy beast. It was sensible, and he knew it was sensible, but shardit he felt useless!
He flicked a glance over to where Basker was curled, still out of it, on his pillow - at least they'd had the chance to get into clothing and out of the robes, even if it was their finery and not normal bed-clothes. His at least was loose enough and comfortable enough to sleep in - he had seen some fool Rider had what seemed to be gems sewn onto his shirt - now that seemed uncomfortable! The blond flopped back onto the bed, Basker not moving. His boots had been taken off and lay on their sides near the head of the bed.
The room was plenty big enough for the two boys and dragonets now in it - C'fael had a suspicion it wasn't what one of either of their ranks would normally hold, but they had been told to just go in and worry about all that later. Second bed had moved in easy enough, either way.
"Rem," he wasn't about to just up and straight call his best friend 'R'sey' all the time, even if it was his proper name now - the other would certainly respond faster to Rem than R'sey for a good long time to come. Unless he took it in his head to be stubborn and refuse to respond, that is. Wouldn't put it past him.
What could he say? More than half of their work... his friend had to be following the same thought patterns, if C'fael had any guess, and it was better to cut things off at the pass. "You know we can't just wiggle out of this and go help." There, if he was right in his friend's thoughts, it would get a reaction. If not, then it was simply a conversation opener that was slightly... off. It would do.
