For once, Kio wasn't actually walking around. He was back in his room, scratching down notes about his findings. He'd drawn little maps and placed names of people he'd found in those areas. Pretty soon he'd know absolutely everything, wouldn't he? And no one would know a thing. It wasn't like he was stalking... he had no personal interest in any of the people he wrote down notes about. If he did have an interest in someone... well, they'd definitely know. But so far he didn't like any of them. Boring, boring, boring, all of them. Their reactions were interesting, though, and Kio decided he rather liked it here. In Dalibor, that is. He just had to wait until he got his Iron Wher to make it absolutely perfect.
Pretty soon he got bored of writing down boring things that he didn't really care about and got up, wandering back out of his room and through the Barracks. That was just a typical day for Kio. Wander around and inspect absolutely everything he could find, of course. He was a detective, and that was his job. His self-appointed job, though Kio never thought of it like that. How could such a dignified job be self-appointed? Obviously he'd been subconsciously elected by all the people around him. He could read their expressions quite well... and he knew that was what they were thinking. Why, if he were any better at reading people, he would be a mind reader! Even in his own head, Kio was rather... well, arrogant, to put it nicely.
Anyway, that explained why he was currently wandering up and down the Candidate Barracks. He'd explored everywhere else quite thoroughly by now... and it really only left one place. He'd passed by his own room several times. There honestly wasn't much to do around here. When it all came down to it, Dalibor Weyr was kind of boring. Certainly it's people were more interesting than this, right? That was also part of the reason as to why Kio wandered around the Weyr. The more he wandered, the more likely he would run into someone with some sort of interesting drama from him to get involved with. Or just someone who would worship... er, follow his views.
The few people he'd met so far had been... alright, he supposed. They didn't seem to like him very much, especially the girls, but that was fine. He didn't really need people to like him, just as long as they were interested enough to stick around him. He was, well, a jerk, and he was fine with that. Kio stuffed his hands into the pockets of his fur-trimmed jacket and continued exploring, hoping something would catch his eye soon.

I watched the proverbial sunrise, Coming up over the Pacific, And you might think I'm losing my mind, But I will shy away from the specifics.
Obelir rubbed one of his knuckles along the bridge of his nose as he lost himself in thought. He peered closer at the wall, as if that might help reveal its secrets. While his eyesight wasn't quite perfect, it was good, and he was perfectly capable of observing the wall from much farther back. It yielded no new information to his prying. The Weyr had been constructed in a very short time by a rather small work force. He was fascinated by the aspects of his new home, his new obsession, and the barracks were a particularly amazing sight. If he could have, he would have gone and looked at the weyrlings' barrack, but he didn't think that quite appropriate. He would be moving into the wherlings' barrack, not the weyrlings', if he bonded. Anyway, the candidates' barrack satisfied him, since he'd been asking people about Dalibor's every feature, design, and detail for months.
The wher candidate had just returned from a restful walk around the perimeter of the bowl, finding it easier to focus once he had stretched his lanky legs. When someone came pacing back down the hall where he stood, it was the first time he saw them. He stood at the sound of their feet, aware of his surroundings despite his extremely focused gaze and absentminded behavior. Another boy was walking towards. Fur-trimmed jacket. The sight was like to picture to regard, and he stared at the other young man with a quizzical expression. In comparison to Kio's finer outfit, Obelir was horribly under dressed for the weather and the occasion. He wore tough boots, loose brown breeches, and two layered shirts in tan and beige. Thankfully, he wasn't likely to remember what he was wearing when presented with someone else, even if the other was a boy. Kio wasn't that attractive.
"Oh, hello;" Obelir chimed. The other boy looked familiar from around, but he had no head for faces or names. While, faces, actually, yes, but not names. What to call something rarely crossed through his mind that much, and names were hardly a piece of his concerns at that time. He certainly made no attempt to introduce himself; the greeting was enough of a miracle as it was. "Some varieties of tunnelsnakes can do go nearly a day without any limbs or even their brains. Some of the heavier avians show similar characteristics, though they aren't at all related." The facts tumbled off his lips with a cheeriness that didn't question their relevancy or how he sounded. Nothing else came to mind, so he said what he knew. He didn't want to seem rude, and he was friendly, in his own way. Giving his nose another absent rub with his knuckle, he smiled nicely at Kio.
This is no place to try and live my life, Stop right there, that's exactly where I lost it, See that line, well, I never should have crossed it, Stop right there, well, I never should have said.

This hallway was boring. There wasn't anything interesting here. Kio was ready to call it quits when he noticed the faint shape of a person up ahead. Ah... so someone else was wandering the Candidate Barracks as well? Had to be a Candidate, and he was in the wher Candidate's area, so probably a wher Candidate, like him. Which was good... Kio was sick and tired of dragon Candidates. Pah. Dragons. Who needed them, anyway? Whers were way better. Though... Kio had to admit he was almost jealous of how prominent the dragons were and how lowly whers were regarded. But that didn't really matter, did it? Kio excelled at working underground rather than out in the open anyway. He didn't want to attract too much attention to himself.
Kio tilted his head to the side with a curious smirk on his face as the other boy... introduced himself. In a very odd way, though Kio had to respect that. He seemed to know quite a lot. If Kio was really planning on some sort of underground blackmail business then this boy would be a perfect addition! But he wasn't about to bring that up right away, you never knew who was going to blab to the Weyrwoman. Not that he had any experience with this or anything... but probably best to keep his ambitions a secret for now. But anyway, he did respect this boy for blurting out random pieces of his knowledge at a pseudo-stranger. It was unique, anyway. Not boring like this dull hallway. He simply smirked for a moment, then tilted his head back upright, eyes gleaming mischeviously.
"That's an interesting thing you know," he commented idely. Really, this Weyr had quite a lot of people interested in Kio's area of expertise. He'd never encountered anything like it before. "Do you always spout off irrelevant facts to everyone you meet?" He couldn't help at least mocking this friendly-looking boy a little. It was a bad habit. He did have to keep up his reputation, anyway. He didn't want to be known as anyone approachable, did he? Being feared meant respect. Though, he didn't want to be so feared that no one wanted to talk to him! That wouldn't be fun. So... he'd be nice, but only to an extent. Er, or he'd be mean only to an extent. It didn't really matter which.
"...I'm Kio. Wher Candidate. And you, little genius, would be...?" he introduced himself in a far less... eccentric manner than Obelir, but he still managed to sound arrogant. He didn't want to show off how much he knew, because then he wouldn't be able to keep it to himself. Information was meant to be kept... and he was the detective, so sharing his discoveries would mean that other people might figure out things before he did. That was unacceptable.

I'm coming up only to hold you under, I'm coming up only to show you wrong, And to know you is hard, we wonder, To know you all wrong, we warn.
Obelir blinked when the other boy mocked him for what he had said, after complimenting him for it. He wasn't that bothered by the turn of face. He didn't take the gesture as mean, merely rather surprising. Instead of being offended, he took the time to seriously consider the question. Did he always spout of random facts? No. Did he often do it? He couldn't recall enough specific instances that he had. He supposed yes, though all the memories were indistinct and out of order when he tried to concentrate. When he was called a little genius, he blinked again, smile fading into a simple expression of childish wonderment. He wasn't a genius, so why ever would Kio say such a thing? He simply knew things, and could thus say them. He wasn't actually smart. He didn't particularly like reading hides even, though he didn't utterly loathe records rooms. He preferred things with more pictures, and he liked being outside, when it was dark.
Oh, he'd forgotten to introduce himself! Nervously, Obelir wiggled his nose as Kio gave his name, face, generally fairly attractive by most markers, wrinkling up in a comical fashion for a few seconds. He always neglected to say his name, until such a thought occurred to him or introductions were brought up by someone else in the conversation. "I'm Obelir;" he responded, giving Kio a dopey smile. His smiles were generally dopey, though they were known to be obliviously charming on occasion. "I'm a wher candidate too;" he added. The barest amount of pride came into his voice, all of the pride that he had in his body. Even after turns of failing to bond to a wher, he still felt undeniably, utterly, and totally at home amongst the people who worked with them and the others who tried and wished so desperately to bond to one. He was wherborn and wherbred. He was proud of his heritage and proud to be doing what he was doing.
Mostly unaware of the arrogance that had even laced Kio's introduction, Obelir looked around, examining the hallway as if he hadn't quite seen it before. He probably had seen Kio from the brief times the wher candidates were gathered together, but he didn't truly bother to try to recall any events. Still smiling a dopey smile, he looked back at the other candidate. He had absolutely nothing to say, so what came out of him next should have been expectably unexpected. "Whers can outrun any land creature on Pern. While awkward in flight, their increased musculature means that they can move extremely fast despite they're bulk." His brain had determined that wher would be a common subject between them. It hadn't determined that he should probably shut up. The dopey smile remained on his face. He didn't look pleased with himself, since any arrogance in him remained nonexistent, but he seemed happy and unabashed.
Really too late to call, So we wait for morning to wake you, That's all we got, And to know me as hardly golden.
