Eccolath`s Flight had been beautiful against the backdrop of lightning and thunder. Hintialth had watched the Cyan Rise choose her winner, ending such a beautiful performance. Luna had chuckled about the way Hintialth rambled on and on about what a gorgeous Flight it had been. At the same time, Hintialth lamented that she was not brave enough to take on such a dangerous setting for a Flight. Luna comforted her dragon and said that when the Green Rose, it would still beautiful. Hintialth cheered up quickly, telling her Mine that she would fly fast and true into the sky, choosing a male that was worthy of her. That made Luna smile. But the girl was equally nervous. Hintialth and her had just transfered here. They barely knew anyone, aside from Sol and her weyr neightbor Prayba. So, there was no male preference for her in this Flight or substitution. She could only hope that the male that won Hintialth`s Flight would have a male Rider.
Hintialth`s hide had grown brighter prior to Eccolath`s Flight, but Hintialth never acted proddy or showy. She had simply remained relatively normal, except she had gotten pickier in her appetite. A few days ago, Hintialth went out to eat some food. She had killed the animal and proceeded to pick through the carcass, skipping over the fat as usual, but eating certain meats first. When she had finished, she left over half a carcass behind for little critters and Fire Lizards to have after her. Luna had watched in curiousity and confusion why her dragon had left behind such a decent amount of food that she would have normally eaten. When she questioned her Green, the Green simply replied, I guess I was not as hungry as I thought I was. But at least the Fire Lizards get a free good meal for once. That was when Luna knew for sure that Hintialth was going to Rise soon.
The day was not like any other day. Eccolath`s Flight had been during a storm. The storm had stayed a while and, two days later, the sky was still a medium dark gray. Hintialth could smell rain in the air, but the sky was not threatening to get worse or begin to storm. It had been raining off and on since the storm, the sun never peeping through, and everybody seemed to be feeling the dark moods. There was barely anyone out in the Weyrbowl or moving around. The only movement she saw on the occassion was when someone left their weyr to head to the dining hall to get food. The same was going for Luna, the quiet young woman, who was spending all her time wondering how her friends back at their old Weyr was doing. She was suppose to expect a gift from them soon, but she was not sure what it was. One of her friends had just sent a letter by his Fire Lizard, warning the young woman to expect something soon. Luna was patient. She could wait.
Hintialth shifted on her ledge, raising her head to the sky. She liked the smell of rain. It was energetic, moving, prominent, and made her just want to fly. This was not helping with the strange feelings that growing inside of her. She knew she was going to be Rising soon, but she had tried not to dwell on it. But with the feeling ever looming and growing closer and closer, the smell of rain had not helped. Well, her Flight would not be as beautiful as Eccolath`s, but at least she could fly to one of her favorite smells. Not salt water, which made her sneeze, but strikingly pure and clean rain water. She stood up and ruffled her wings in a way that dragons could. She turned her head, the beginnings of purple lust starting to creep into her eyes. Mine, I Fly now, she said simply, jumping off her ledge and gliding down to the pens.
As Hintialth bugled before tackling and taking her first kill, Luna stood up and ran to Hintialth`s ledge. The Green was Rising now. Hintialth had given no warning except for her bright hide. Then again, Hintialth had never been a typical Green, proddy or fickle. She had simply been a sweet dragon who only sought to please her Mine and make her happy. Luna was happy with Hintialth. She had never been upset at the Green. But surely Hintialth would have been kind enough to give warning. OR maybe Hintialth not telling her was being kind? Maybe the Green had not told her because she did not want her Rider to be worried about their first Flight. Their first Flight... It was scary enough thinking about it, but now that it was happening... Luna was not feeling as nervous anymore. It was a natural thing in the Weyrs. No one would think low about for subcoming to Flight lust. It was normal.
Hintialth bleed her first kill. She tried to keep her tongue away from that nasty tasting fat that all animals were known for. But the meat on the other hand tasted delicious as her tongue seemed to reach into the animal and lick the ligaments on the bones. She could hear Luna shouting at her to blood only. Well, that was fine! She was not hungry anyways! She finished bleeding the creature and threw it to the side, charging and tackling another poor beast. The animal went down with a bellow before it was quieted by the sharp, pointed teeth of Hintialth. Again, the taste of meat enticed her so much, but she hated hearing her Mine shout in her head. It was such a headache. Luna had never shouted at her before! Well, she was done!
Hintialth bugled again and raced up into the sky. The smell of rain continued to linger. There were not be a storm. No, she would not take Eccolath`s glory. Besides, she was not that brave. But the idea of flying in the rain was a rather nice idea. She seemed to try to will the clouds to rain for her, but they would not release the flow. So, she would have to Fly against semi-dark clouds and that would be all. That was fine. This was her Flight! She bugled again to all the males in the Weyr. Let them all come and fly with her, for her, against her! She would choose her winner when she was ready. Her Mine would not make the decision for her. She flapped her wings, taking her further into the sky. Let them come! Let them come! Let them come!
