It wasn't too long after the Hatching when Flask prodded His into wakefulness. FlaynMine. New Wherlings. He announced loudly as the first few Wherlings came traipsing down the halls.
Flayn yawned, rolling over to glance at the blue, who gazed back. Awake? the blue queried, eyes calm.
Flayn nodded to himself, "Yeah, sure, I'm awake." he grumbled quietly to himself as he slipped out of bed, changing into something more presentable before Flask guided him out into the hall.
Flayn stifled a yawn as he watched Flask, wondering if he knew anybody who'd Impressed. There was that boy who'd nearly run into Flask, but that was pretty much the extent of the Wher Candidates that he knew. With those odds, probably no one he knew had Impressed. Oh well - he could get to know the new Wherlings. That wouldn't be too bad.
When someone paused in front of him, Flayn glanced up, meeting the gaze of someone he assumed as a wherling, judging by the green he was carrying in his arms, and a new one at that.
"Hello, my name's Flayn, and this is Flask. We're the Senior Wherlings now, I guess." he was careful to remain polite when he spoke to the other boy, but still make sure there wasn't room for probing questions on his part.
Frino grinned cheerfully, and would have stuck out his hand if it weren't for the green in his arms. "Name's Frino, and the green's Frisk. We're the Junior Wherlings now, I guess." imitating the other boy's introduction, Frino had to resist the urge to laugh to himself.
With that, the conversation fell rather flat, but Frino was sure they wouldn't have long to wait before something happened or someone started talking. He was actually waiting for Rethalt or Wyrnri to show up, but this Flayn would do to pass the time, at least.
Flask seemed to be content to watch the wherling in front of him, and Flayn was happy to keep quiet. He hadn't gotten much sleep when Flask woke him up, so that was a definite part, and the other part was that he felt rather awkward talking with the new wherlings, especially when Flask was so much larger than their whers.
And with Frisk sleeping, Frino was just waiting for his friends to show up.

Talouse walked cheerfully down the corridor, Task trotting at her side. "Well, looks like we'll be living here for now Task." She said brightly, totally and completely awake. Why wouldn't she be? After Task had had his fill of meat the night before, they had slept the day through. Aside from occasional quick trips for more meat, of course. He had just hatched, after all.
Talousemine, look. Others! Task cried before galloping up to the other Handlers and their whers. Hello. I Task. Mine Talouse. Who you? Task asked the much larger blue wher. He was undaunted by the difference in their sizes. Why should he be? He was just as good as the blue, whatever his name was, even though he was younger.
Talouse ran to catch up to her wher, laughing as she came up even with the two boys. "Hi there. I'm Talouse, and this rascal is Task." She said, giving them one of her biggest goofy grins. "Looks like we're going to be wherlings together." She laughed again at her obvious statement. Of course they were going to be wherlings together! They all had whers, and they were in the wherlings' barrack. It stood to reason they would be in the same classes and things in the future. In these dark corridors, in the presence of whers and their handlers, Talouse's bright and cheerful personality could shine through. No dragons, no possibility of dragons, and her very own wher by her side. Life was going to be good for her and Task from now on.

"So..." Baharl yawned cavernously, and slipped both arms behind her head as she glanced down at the little Iron Wher beside her. "... What do you think of life so far, little guy?" She offered him a tired grin, unable to sustain the sleepy silence that they had fallen into as they walked back to her room for long. Despite the yearning for bed that she felt, she was eager to test out the strange and wonderful bond that had grown between them. She was generally a happy person, but the strength of the emotion that had taken hold of her on the sands had been startling. It was a wholly welcome experience.
Bask tired. The iron replied as if it were the obvious answer, and strode a little ahead of his new handler with a dismissive flick of his tail. Wait, had that sounded mean? He didn't want to be that type of Wher, but he was tired.. He paused in his stride to let Baharl catch up, and turned to regard her with mildly apologetic eyes, and a more sincere answer. Sleep first. Have life tomorrow?
Baharl laughed at his earnest prioritizing. She couldn't blame him! It probably was a lot to take in at once, your first day of life, and with a full belly a sleep was really the best thing to do, in her opinion. She caught up with him, and nodded her agreement as they continued toward a group of people idling in the halls. "Alright, alright, I'll save the questions for tomorrow night."
BaharlMine! Hatch mates! He advised her hastily, and did his best to assume a strong and perfectly awake posturing and stride as they approached. The Wher was eager for sleep, but it was important to look strong. Not that he had to try hard to look that way, because he was strong, and so was his Baharl. He stopped near the lively Black and the much older Blue, who he sniffed at curiously. The Blue was not a clutch-mate! Bask chirruped a quiet greeting to the two of them, and spread his little wings. Hello. I Bask. That BaharlMine.
She chuckled at his warning to shape up, but didn't heed it, instead striding over to join the others leisurely. Baharl dropped her hands from behind her head, and grinned sleepily at the assembled Wherlings. "Some night, eh?" Talouse caught her eye. Hadn't she been the grievously late girl? She would have whistled if the other boy hadn't been holding a sleeping green, instead she pointed and laughed quietly. "And how lucky are you? I thought for sure Risk was going to chase you out!"

First thing was first... Kio headed towards the Candidate Barracks. Lost? Kiosk wondered as they split from the group of Wherlings. Kio had a rather sour look on his face now that no one else was around. His hand was still bleeding, he'd cut it a little too deep in his frenzy. "Not lost," he replied absentmindedly, but didn't bother saying anything more to the Blue that was struggling to keep up with him. Kio made it to his room and changed out of the armor he'd been wearing, back into his regular outfit and back into his beloved jacket. He felt complete, now. He also wrapped up his hand with a spare bandage to stop the bleeding. The Barracks were deserted, well, either that or everyone else was sleeping. He shoved his hands into his pockets and walked back towards the Wherling quarters. Kiosk was struggling even more to keep up... he was tired. But Kio merely glanced at him. The wher was trying, at least. He just wanted to help his help the world... which was not what Kio wanted to do. It bothered him. He didn't know if he liked having something of a conscience. Not that it would change his ways... but, you know, it was annoying. No one else was walking back to their rooms now, but there was a blockage in the halls. A blockage of people. Kio wasn't all that bothered, he hadn't wanted to go to sleep anyway, so he smirked mischeviously and sauntered forward towards the group of people. He didn't recognize any of them, but there were three gathered so far. What... fun. Well, at least he could help establish his name some more. Everyone in this Weyr would learn to... respect him. Eventually. Might as well start with his Wherling class. A flicker of jealousy shot through him as he noticed the new, female Ironhandler was there... but Kio didn't really care. Nope. Not at all. Kiosk here! Kiosk ran forward with sudden energy, joining the group and helping his by making a conversation starter. "Well, well, what's going on here? Loitering?" he smirked, approaching the others. He didn't move his hands out of his pockets to wave or greet his new classmates, he merely smirked arrogantly at them. He'd caught what Baharl had said and gave a sly grin. "She might not have chased you out, but she certainly won't appreciate you at the Lessons. You'd better make sure you do anything wrong," he said with mock-seriousness, though it wasn't in a friendly way.[/blockquote]

Flask wriggled in delight as the second wherbaby showed, asking for his name. This was a cause for much celebration. Wherbabies! Name Flask. FlaynMine. He gestured with his nose towards His for all that watched and let out a celebratory croon.
Flayn smiled at the approaching girl. She must be the one that the black wheret had Impressed to. "I'm Flayn, and that's Flask." he grinned adoringly down at the much larger blue wher, before pausing at Talouse's next words, "Hey, I guess we are! That will be fun!" Grinning a little wider, he extended his hand genially.
Flask eyed the Iron who'd come up to greet them. The Iron was sniffing him. Was that odd? Oh well, another wherbaby! This was great! They were all greeting his FlaynMine! His FlaynMine could make friends now! I Flask. Nice meet! He greeted the Iron exuberantly.
Frino eyed the girls, Talouse and Baharl. The newest Ironhandler and Blackhandler. "It's nice to meet you both. I'm Frino." After a momentary pause, during which he half expected Frisk to speak, Frino added, "And this is Frisk." Thankfully, now that she was full, she was sleeping like a long and her sleep hadn't been disturbed by the approach of several other wherlings.
He glanced towards Talouse when the Iron's wherling started talking animatedly to her and nodded absently. Wasn't she the one that had been seriously late and nearly gotten chased off the Sands by Risk? "I thought she was, too." Frino winced at the memory. He wouldn't wish being mauled on anyone. "I'm sure you're glad she didn't though, huh?" He glanced meaningfully down at Task with a small grin.
Nice meet, Kiosk! Flask wiggled his tail enthusiastically, hardly seeming to notice as it knocked vigorously against the wall. I Flask!
"Sure, let's call it loitering." Flayn nodded his head with a small smile. The Wherlings around here sure were an odd bunch! A female Ironhandler, and now this bluehandler. A fellow bluehandler. This was going to be interesting.
Frino held in a snort at Kio's comment about not doing anything wrong. "That's a smart idea." After a moment, he yawned, shifting Frisk's weight in his arms. She was getting rather heavy to his tired muscles. He wanted to put her down now, but their bond kept him from doing it. He loved his Frisk.

Talouse offered a grin to Baharl. "She almost did. If Task hadn't arrived when he did, I don't know if I'd be here right now." She laughed and smiled down at the little Iron, who Task was peering at curiously.
Nice meet Bask. That TalouseMine. Task's tail was waving slowly in happiness. If he had been less tired, it might have been moving with Flask's enthusiasm, but a full stomach combined with your first day of life will do that to a wher. Soon another wher was joining them. What fun! Kiosk. I Task. This TalouseMine. Then, Flask spoke. Flask big. Nice meet big Flask. There were so many of them. Task was glad that only one of them was so much bigger than him. Still, other than the Green whose name he didn't know in the boys arms, he was the smallest there. He yawned widely and blinked blearily up at Talouse. Sleep soon TalouseMine?
Yes, sleep soon Task. After shaking Flayn's hand firmly with a smile, Talouse stooped and gathered Task into her arms, cradling him comfortably so he could sleep if he wanted to. He stuck his head over her arm so he could look at everyone and commenced a series of slow blinks until he nodded off. "Of course I'm glad she didn't!" She said to Frino. "Imagine if Task had hatched and I wasn't there. He may have gone wild." The thought of not having Task by her side hurt, and they hadn't even been together that long.
Kio's arrival was less than pleasant. Talouse didn't like him on sight, and she already thought he was a fool from the hatching. Her grin disappeared and she replied in a much less pleasant tone, "I'll be sure and do that. I wouldn't want to need any armor in the near future." Great. Now her good mood was ruined.

Baharl grinned wearily at the two boys, one holding a sleeping Green, and the other standing near a very excited and older looking blue. She smiled down at Flask, enjoying his overexcited antics. At least there was someone who didn't seem tired! She looked up at Flayn curiously, unable to place his face. He must be one of the Senior Wherlings. She'd have to talk to him later when she was feeling less drained, and ask him what to expect from Bask. Her attention turned to Talouse and she offered a somewhat grave nod to her statement about her Task going wild. That would have been a terrible thing. She glanced down at Bask, who was doing his best to still look like his normal regal self, though his all too regal tail was laying exhausted on the floor. He could have gone wild, but she very likely would have chased after him.
Couldn't catch Bask. The Iron teased gently, making her grin as he turned his head up to look at her briefly. His attention was called back to his fellow Wherets, and he chirruped a quiet greeting to Kiosk. He was glad to see the Blue, and other members of his Clutch he had only glimpsed on the Sands. His subjects and there mines all passed inspection, except for Kio. Bask eyed the boy critically, and huffed a tiny breath of distaste, testing his claws reflexively on the floor. The other Wher deserved a better Mine, but it wasn't his place to say anything. Hiw mother had approved the Wherets choice, and she was much wiser than he. Instead, he toddled closer to Baharl, collapsing heavily against her legs to take a rest.
Baharl glanced over her shoulder as Kio arrived, and was about to speak when she caught a whiff of the thoughts passing through her bonded's head. The little Iron had a point. Risk had quickly backed off of Talouse when Task chose her, and she hadn't attempted to maul the armored boy after the blue had chosen him. "I don't think she'll treat you any different. Task did choose you after all. Nice armor, by the way." Baharl noted with a grin, squinting at Kio in the faint dark to examine him. "How about that girl that showed up naked?" She laughed quietly, not wishing to disturb Frisk or Task. "I wish I'd thought of that!"
Bask snorted, and leaned comfortably against Baharl's legs. He casually stole glances at Frisk and Task in their Handler's arms. That looked comfortable... More comfortable than the floor anyway. Not that he was uncomfortable! Or tired at all. Maybe he could get Baharl to hold him like that. Baharlmine! Pick Bask up?
Tired? She asked with a faint grin, glancing down at him with some sympathy. Or jealous?
No! He shot back defensively, looking down his nose at her, which was quite a feat considering how small he was in comparison. Bask want... see higher.
Suuure. She teased, but more than willingly obliged her Wher's wants by kneeling down and scooping him up into her arms. He was more of an armful than the other two Whers, but she supported his weight easily, cradling him against her chest. Bask for his part, looked satisfied by his new position and elevation, and soon his struggles to stay awake began to fail him. Baharl meanwhile did her best to keep from laughing.

Kio eyed Flayn warily. He hadn't picked up on the arrogance of Kio's statement? Weird. Maybe he thought just because they were both Bluehandlers, they'd be friends...? Kio almost laughed. Really, like the color of one's wher meant anything to Kio. Especially not the blinding blue of Flask. He figured he should make that known... but he didn't want to seem rude about it! Oh, who was he kidding, Kio made fun of people for a living... of course he wanted to be rude about it! But the others were soon responding to him as well, so he tilted his head with a cocky smirk and listened.
He did visibly falter a bit at the statements about his armor. He shoved his hands deeper into his pockets, a foul look on his face... he didn't want to be reminded of that. He'd thought it was a good idea and it wasn't and he resolved to make a bit less of a fool of himself. At least he'd been shown up by the naked girl, though. The foul expression was only for a moment before he scoffed. Whatever, he didn't care. Soon they'd all... fear him? Something like that. Fear, respect, one of those. It didn't matter which. "Good. Because I wouldn't let you borrow mine even if you asked," he taunted Talouse. It wasn't one of his smarter remarks, but he didn't really focus much on her, instead turning his attention to the others and their whers. Sometimes ignoring someone could be the worst treatment possible. Hate was one thing... but to be ignored? Awful.
Kio wasn't entirely sure if Baharl was making fun of him or not... he opted for the not, and smirked widely in her direction. "Going naked wasn't a good idea at all. If she'd been mauled it would have been quite a problem. ...she's quite interesting, though. It takes a bold person to be able to do something like that," Kio mused, thinking back to the naked girl. He must have seemed quite cowardly compared to her... he twitched again, but didn't let it bother him. Whatever.
Kiosk was elated that the others were talking to him. The more people he knew, the more people he could help! Big Flask! he chirped in wonder, watching the vibrantly colored Blue. Hey... he was Blue! He was Blue too, KioMine! They were both Blue! But Kio ignored his innocent, helpful thoughts, which made Kiosk rather... sad? But he loved His! He was helping His! When the others were being picked up he looked around... and then expectantly up at Kio. Kiosk up? he asked quietly, not wanting to bother His or anything. Bothering wasn't helpful! Kio glanced down at him, but didn't move to pick him up. The conversation had quickly bored him, so Kio began to examine the others. He wanted to get a better look at the Iron, but then decided he didn't really care. The one that most interested Kio was the very vibrantly colored Flask. That was unnatural... wasn't it? Whers were generally very naturally colored, more like his Kiosk. He moved closer to Flask, bending down to look at the wher... though being careful not to get too close. He hopped upright and smirked at Flayn, "He's quite an odd color! How is he ever going to blend into the nighttime?" he asked, phrasing it like an innocent question... but the mischevious flash in his dark eyes meant that he had obviously meant the question with ill intent.[/blockquote]

Talouse smiled at the mention of her former roommate. Bri's lack of clothing had been surprising for sure, but it was better than showing up in full armor in her opinion. She ignored the possibility of her being biased and shifted Task's weight in her arms. He barely twitched, just continued snoozing away, meaning Talouse was getting sleepy herself. "That was Bri," she said with a small yawn, "she's a nice person, and really fun! We were roommates in the Candidates Barrack."
Kio ignoring her barely even registered. He wasn't worth the energy to be mad at, she just didn't like him. As long as they weren't teamed up for whatever reason, she wouldn't have to deal with him more often than lessons and passing glances. "Not having any clothes wouldn't really make any difference if she was mauled. Clothes wouldn't stop a wher if they wanted to hurt you." Talouse couldn't help saying it, despite her thoughts of moments before. Kio was full of himself and needed to be brought down a peg. Until that happened, she wouldn't be able to keep herself from needling him at each opportunity.
His comments on Flask's color sounded innocent, but from what he had already said, he probably meant them in a negative way. Well well well, it looked like someone was jealous. It wasn't really something to be jealous about though. If he and Kiosk worked hard they could go far, no matter how much older Flask was. She decided to ignore that one. Flayn would look after his wher better than she could.

Frino had watched with growing amusement as the Wherling he'd be working with clashed. Kio seemed to be the creator, the orchestrator of such clashes, and Frino's opinion of the other boy ratcheted up a few notches, despite the Wherling's annoying demeanor. However, Frisk stirred in his arms, making Frino forget anything else that might have been going on. Lots people! She commented loudly, glancing around, voice still rather bleary. Hello! I Frisk! Mine Frino! Frino make Frisk happy. She announced to everyone, wriggling in Frino's arms so that she could see everyone.
Flask looked more delighted than ever when everyone responded to him. See, FlaynMine? They nice! His vibrantly colored body wriggled some more as the blue wher turned towards the other whers. Nice meet all! He cried, Nice meet small whers! he added in response to the many comments about him being big. How crazy! He wasn't big, they were just small!
Flayn looked more interested in the comment about the armor than much else. Kio didn't seem to react favorably to the comment, and Flayn snorted. "Well, well, you wherlings are going to be quite the handful for Ridan. I almost feel bad for him." A naked Candidate, and now a Candidate with armor! How odd, how odd.
After a moment, Flayn mostly started tuning the conversation around him out. This was getting boring - he never should've let Flask haul him out of bed. However, Flayn jolted when the topic of the conversation turned back to him. His eyes narrowed for a moment, as the comment had seemed almost . . . insulting, before he responded coolly. "Flask blends into the night just fine, thanks." No need to mention that, in all reality, he didn't, and that Flayn had often resorted to rubbing mud on Flask's electric blue hide so that his bright blue wher could blend in with the darkness a little better than he usually would have.
