Personality: Strong and proud, golds are natural leaders. They tend to be dominant and strong-willed, though relatively calm and non-aggressive. Loyal to their Weyr and rider, they expect that loyalty to be paid back to them, and are loath to tolerate dissent or disrespect. They often have strategic minds. Golds Impress only to females.
Occurrence: 0.5% of dragon poplulation
Size: 51-55 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Like the eggs that hold them, golds have a metallic sheen to their hides. Many have bright yellow hides, though faded, dusky tones are also possible. They have large and powerful frames. Gold dragons are unable to flame even if they chew firestone.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 36 months. Golds rise once every 1-5 turns. They tend to choose higher-ranking males.

Personality: Coppers are fierce and temperamental, especially compared to the typical gold. Their pride is often closer to vanity, and they are likely to use force to deal with a threat or insult. Though blunt, they are not necessarily tactless, refusing to dance around a subject. Coppers are extremely intelligent, though their fiery personalities may obscure this. They Impress only to females.

Size: 48-52 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Like their shining eggs, coppers have metallic hides that shine in the light. A mixture of red, orange, and yellow melds in their hides; most are darker in color than golds, varying shades of orange and brown. They are long and lean, more graceful than golds, though their size keeps them from true agility. Copper dragons are unable to produce flame even if they chew firestone.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 36 months. Coppers rise once every 1-5 turns. A copper is more likely than a gold to select a higher-ranking male due to her vanity.

KINGS

Personality: Stoic and calm, irons are typically quiet but strong of presence. When they speak, they do so carefully, never wasting words. Though not prideful, they are natural leaders who are willing to take command, and they loathe to have their authority questioned. There is often a distinct air of nobility and purpose to the way they behave. They Impress only to males.
Occurance: 2.0% of the dragon population
Size: 46-48 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. While still metallic, their hides tend to be duller than those of bronzes. They are gray in color, but their hides often contain hints of green, orange, or blue. Due to their wide frame, irons tend to be bulky and have enormous wingspans to help carry their weight.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 21-24 months.

Personality: Bronzes are creatures of both plans and action; which they prefer is dependent upon the dragon. They are leaders, levelheaded and noble, though prone to flights of passion. They tend to be vain, ambitious, and competitive, constantly striving to be the best. They are much more prideful than irons. They Impress only to males.

Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Built for strength and stamina, their bodies are typically well-proportioned. Their hides are metallic and mix shades of brown and orange with hints of green.

Personality: At odds with their gentle appearance, oranges are usually elitist and prideful. They have high opinions of themselves. Though they are not very intellectual, they can be determined and forceful enough to act as leaders in a pinch. Many will hide their sharp edges behind a facade of ladylike pleasantness. They can be flirty, but they tend to be extremely picky when it comes to potential mates. They Impress almost exclusively to females, with male riders possible but exceedingly rare.

Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Most oranges have bright hides toward the median of the hue, though cream and burnt tones are possible. They typically have delicate, narrow wings and slender bodies. They can produce only a weak flame.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 45-46 months. They rise once every 1-5 turns, and produce medium-sized clutches approximately once every four flights.

Personality: Tans are largely known for their lack of intelligence, with poor memories and a tendency to misunderstand things. However, they are also sweet, gentle souls, comfortable living as followers and content with what they have. Most are endearingly quirky, living with their heads in the clouds. They almost exclusively Impress to females, with male riders possible but exceedingly rare.

Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Tans have dull, pale hides, ranging from cream to tawny and without any real hint of color beyond brown. They tend to be simply built, more slender than browns but without the serpentine quality noted in oranges. They can produce only a weak flame.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 45-46 months. They rise once every 1-5 turns and produce medium-sized clutches approximately once every four flights.

Personality: Short-tempered and volatile, reds are considered the most dangerous class of dragon. They lack patience and are extremely demanding and aggressive. They are jealous and protective of things they consider their own, sometimes to the extent of being possessive of their riders; they will only Impress to stable people who are capable of controlling them at their most vicious. They almost exclusively Impress to females, with male riders possible but exceedingly rare.

Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Their hides range from bright crimson to maroon, but they are never particularly pale. Solidly-built, reds tend to have longer tails than most dragons. They can produce only a weak flame.

Personality: Viridians are known for a near-total lack of a sense of humor, at least when it comes to themselves - they hate to be made fun of, and most have a terrible bedside manner to boot. They are somber, critical, and extremely serious, ranging from merely dour to outright obsessive. Though focused and ambitious, they have a selfish streak a mile wide which often keeps them from leadership. They tend to be inflexible but obedient. They Impress almost exclusively to males, with female riders being exceedingly rare.

Size: 40-42 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Their hides tend to be among the more vibrant shades of green, tending toward yellow and without any hint of blue. They are generally rather bulky, large and tall.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 21-24 months.

Personality: Stable and calm, browns tend to be unflappable, or at least present a placid appearance when startled or upset. They tend to have a soothing manner on others, kind and gentle. They are loyal and willing to listen. Though generally not ambitious, they make excellent leaders when called upon, and make friends easily. They Impress almost exclusively to male candidates, with female riders being exceedingly rare.

Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Browns are solid, sturdy dragons, typically wide of wing and thick of tail. Their hides range from light and sandy to dark and chocolatey, occasionally with a hint of red undertone.

Personality: Fun-loving and with a notable vitality, purples enjoy having a good time. They are jokers and entertainers, always out to cheer others up, sometimes at their own expense. They are never totally serious, and will try to make even the most somber occasion into a more upbeat affair. Their lighthearted attitude tends to keep them from leadership, though they have the ingenuity to function in such positions when necessary. Prone to flirting, they tend to be fickle in their attentions. They Impress almost exclusively to male candidates, with female riders being exceedingly rare.

Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Purples are longer and leaner than viridians and browns, which makes them more agile than the other subkings. Their hides can be any shade of purple, from lavender to indigo.

MALE/FEMALE

Personality: Yellows are sweethearts, loving and cheerful. They are all but incapable of hatred, and most tend to eschew any form of negative emotion. Their mission in life is to make the world a happier place. Typically naive, they may come across as cute and youthful, though most have good memories despite their gullibility.
Occurrence: 0.7% of the dragon population
Size: 34-37 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Yellows generally have bright, radiant hides, though more creamlike or dusky tones are possible as well. Most yellows are light and slender. Yellows produce strong, narrow cones of fire when they flame.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 36-37 months. Female yellows fly once every 1-5 turns and clutch rarely, about once every five flights.

Personality: Extremely intelligent and gifted with long memories, whites have gained a reputation for having strange traits. At base, however, they are playful, energetic, and sweet. Most are quite talkative and open, having a particular gift for empathy. Whites tend to be extremely curious.

Size: 15-18 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Despite their name, almost all whites are not truly white. Pale shades of pink, blue, green, cream, violet, and yellow mix on their glossy hides with infrequent, small patches of white and light gray; they are truly a rainbow of color, though one would have to look extremely close to notice. They are built for agility and possess little stamina. Whites produce small but strong flames.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 46-47 months. Female whites fly once every 2-6 turns, and typically clutch once every two flights. Whites are notoriously disinterested in flights, however, particularly the males.

Personality: Dour, quiet, and aloof, grays tend to be extremely sensitive to their rider's emotions. Though perceived as moody and withdrawn due to their preference for their rider's company, they have a vivid inner life, imaginative and inventive. They are very thoughtful and quite intelligent.

Size: 12-15 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Grays tend to have extremely large wings, and are strong despite their diminutive size. Their hides can range from near-black to silvery, and have a dull, stony quality. Grays produce small but strong flames, appropriate for their size.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 46-47 months. Female grays fly once every 2-6 turns and clutch roughly once every three flights.

MALE FIGHTERS

Personality: Emotionally stable, blues are the most common searchdragons due to their ability to be both sensitive and calm. They are loyal and usually obedient, though they can be stubborn and opinionated as well. They are known for being well-balanced, though some can be fierce.
Occurrence: 10% of the dragon population
Size: 29-34 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Built along solid, wide lines, they have both strength and stamina. Their hides tend toward middling shades of blue, though they can range from cornflower to navy.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 21-24 months.

Personality: Burgundies are go-getters, aggressive and always seeking action. Not necessarily interested in leadership, they make excellent fighters, brave and relentless in pursuit of their desires. Many are unforgiving and short-tempered, but they are not particularly violent dragons. They can be quite demanding, forward to the point of tactlessness.

Size: 28-30 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Burgundies tend to have dark red hides, never especially vibrant or bright; they have more of a purple tint to them than reds do. For the most part, they are bulky and muscular, built for strength.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 21-24 months.

Personality: Blacks are best known for an aura of mystery. Though their internal life can be varied, from sweet to vicious, they tend to be quiet and shy, keeping their motives and thoughts to themselves. Most dislike violence and loud noises. They are excellent communicators in spite of their preference for silence.

Size: 18-21 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Blacks are the swiftest fighters, built on slim, aerodynamic lines. Though their hides may bear slight tints of color, they have the least range of any dragon, and most are jet black.

Personality: Cyans are known as the most versatile dragon color, with a wide variety of potential traits. As a whole, however, they tend to be purposeful. They set goals, though whether they are traditionally ambitious or more frivolous depends on the dragon. Whatever their particular desire, however, they tend to be strong-willed, and they take themselves and their rider seriously, though they may have excellent senses of humor.
Occurrence: 16.3% of the dragon population.
Size: 29-31 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Cyans tend to be more heavyset, though their build may vary. In color they are a mixture of blue-green, and many are easily mistaken for one or the other at first glance. However, they share a distinct glossiness to their hide which sets them apart.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 24-25 months. Cyans fly once or twice each turn, and are infertile.

Personality: Greens are empathetic and emotional dragons, highly attuned to their riders. They tend to be more outgoing than cyans or greens, known to be flirty, flighty, impatient, and energetic. Brave and quick to act, they are often stubborn and opinionated. Some are short-tempered, and most become irritable around the time of their flights.

Size: 24-29 feet
Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. Built for agility, they typically have long, narrow wings and lanky, lean bodies. Their hides tend toward brighter shades, but can range from lime to forest.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 24-25 months. Greens fly three or four times each turn, and are infertile.

Personality: Pinks are friendly and loving, and while most are energetic and talkative, some can be more shy and withdrawn. Many are curious and adventurous, and most love to explore and meet new people. They are as a whole good-natured and sweet, but they have an awareness and intelligence which sets them apart from the more gullible tans and yellows.

Appearance: Physically mature at 18 months. They are built delicately, with fragile wings, slender tails, and a narrow neck. Most of their hides are a light, creamy pink, but they can be a darker magenta or so pale they are nearly white as well.
Sexuality: Sexually mature at 24-25 months. They fly two or three times each turn, and are infertile.
