Name:
Lasd (L’sd on Impression)
Gender:
Male
Age:
18
Sexuality:
Heterosexual
Location:
Western Hold Dalibor Weyr
Rank:
Dragon Candidate
Personality:
Lasd is, upon first meeting him, a quiet boy. He has determination and fire in his eyes though. His general philosophy is “Work first, play later”. This philosophy has earned him his reputation as a hard worker. It has also kept him from making some friends with boys his age who like to goof off a little more. In fact, most of his friends are much older than himself, ranging from twenty-five to his father’s age. After work, he will usually join them to eat and have a few drinks, though he usually sticks with klah.
He is rather intelligent for his age and upbringing. Not necessarily on history and math and the like, but on matters of life. He knows all about fish and about the skills needed there and has also learned a bit about dolphins and dragons from his sisters. He, himself, is content with being a fisherman, seeing as he is good at it.
He does have a few friends his age. Around them, he laughs a lot and they joke around, but never really do anything that would get them into trouble. Not because they are goody-two-shoes or anything but because they see no point in it. The group of about four boys and two girls are fairly mature for their age, though their personalities vary.
Lasd is generally helpful, though he never initiates the assistance unless asked or he can see that it’s very obviously needed. It’s a bit of a downfall, however, because sometimes he does have a hard time saying no. If there is a large haul, he will often take an elder’s heavier net again and again until he’s quite exhausted.
Lasd, despite his age, is not typically one to flirt. He has liked girls before, but rarely makes it known. The one time he did, he was turned down and has since backed off of that scene. He always thought that one day, it would just happen. At the moment, he simply enjoys having a good time with his friends and working and will shy away from girls outside his normal group, especially those he is attracted to.
Lasd, though he does not talk much or branch out from his friends, is not particularly shy. He is always one to wish a good day to passersby is he notices them. When in a room with strangers, he will generally introduce himself, but this does not happen often (the situation where he’s in a room full of strangers).
Appearance:
Average is a good way to describe Lasd’s appearance. He’s about 5’ 10” in height, with his body proportions completely normal. Nothing about his height screams too tall or gangly or special in any way. His weight too, about 170 lbs, is normal. He isn’t too thin or scrawny, but doesn’t have much fat on him. This is due to the days of hauling in nets full of fish; it has given him a good amount of lean muscle. This muscle, however, has not bulked him up, but given his average-sized body some tone to it.
His face, too, is average. He is not what most would call ugly but he’s not a stud by any means. His face is tan, like the rest of his body, from days out in the sun, giving his skin a sort of tight quality.
He will probably age early. His eyes are sepia brown, not standing out against his skin, but showing fully how he’s feeling. His eyes are a little smaller than most, but it is a feature you would have to study closely to notice. His nose is small and slightly boney, not jutting out far but having a slightly sharp feel to it. His cheek bones can be barely traced through his skin as he has the right amount of fat to his face. His jaw bone isn’t as defined as he would have wanted either. It’s traceable but in no way defined and “manly”.
His hands are the possessors of many scars. From fish hooks, boning knives, sharp fins, you name it. Most are from his early years helping out, but every now and then, his fingers slip from the fish oil or something (usually, he is paying good attention so that’s usually not the problem) and he’ll add a new bandage to his hand or arm. His feet are in fairly bad shape as he doesn’t like to wear shoes. They have many scrapes and calluses and the sole of them need some work and are usually filthy.
When he does where shoes, he tries to wear sandals instead of boots, not liking the feeling of his feet enclosed in shoes. He also, while working, doesn’t usually wear a shirt, finding that it only gets dirty and torn and will smell of fish forever if he does. He does wear pants but they are either rolled up or he has crudely cut them off at the knee, giving him a tan line that has an odd jagged look to it. He wears his brown hair slightly long, a little past his ears, so he is often requited to tie it back with a small strip of cloth.
Family:
Father- Lomar (Fisher)
Mother- Sadara
Siblings- Rador (Brother, 27, Fisher); Rama of Green Repath(Sister, 25, Rider at High Reaches Weyr); Damal (Brother, Would be 20, Deceased); Daroma (Twin sister of Damal, 20, Apprentice at Dolphinhall)
Pets:
None
History:
Lasd was born the youngest of five in High Reaches Hold. His family was very overjoyed at his arrival. Despite their many children and lack of funds, they had feared Sadara was getting too old for children and had wanted a large family. When Lasd was born healthy, the couple couldn’t have been happier.
The family encouraged all their children to pursue anything they wanted, though Lomar happily taught his children the fishing trade. When Rador seemed to pick it up, Lomar was ecstatic. Lasd, at an early age, liked to make his parents happy and, after seeing how happy it made them when Rador chose this path, began to look up to his eldest brother. He started learning the fishing trade as soon as possible.
When Lasd was ten, a search dragon from High Reaches Weyr flew over the Hold, looking for candidates for their new clutch. Though Rama had been set on learning the fishing trade, she happily went with the blue rider. Both Lomar and Sadara happily consented. They had never had a dragonrider in the family. And if it made Rama, always one to be a dreamer, happy, then they were very happy for her.
However, happiness was not to continue. A few turns after Rama impressed, tragedy struck the family. Damal, while swimming late at night, leapt off a cliff to do a dive and show off to his twin, Daroma, and her best friend, Feli, and wound up landing on the rocks hidden in the water below. (This is a lot of the reason that Lasd doesn’t like to joke around too much-he was very close to all his family and this was a major shock to him). Lasd watched as his whole family withdrew and withdrew with them. Being the youngest, just eleven turns then, he wasn’t quite sure what to think.
Daroma, being his twin, was hit the hardest and she completely withdrew from everything. She refused to study fishing and blamed herself a lot.
Lasd tried to help, but his attempts were scorned for turns. After many turns though, everyone got better. While Daroma was permanently changed, everyone was able to function normally. One day, Daroma announced that Feli was moving to a newly established Hold called Western Hold where they had a Dolphinhall. She wanted to go with her. The family, wanting to stay together decided to go too. With a Fishinghall, the family trade could be kept.
Upon moving, the family did their best to adjust and stay happy. The move helped heal their loss of Damal and they functioned fine. Lasd had to admit that he had a fine life, a wonderful family who was strong and stayed together. Even Rama would come and visit when she wasn’t busy.
Though he was set to be a fisherman, the day the search dragon came and searched him, he was instantly curious. A new part of him seemed to open him up. Rama seemed so in love with her dragon. He had not had a bond that strong ever. His father and mother had each other. Rador was the first son and also had found love in one of the Hold girls. Domara and Damal had had each other. Maybe he, too, could find a special bond in a dragon. If not, he could always return.
Dragon Preference:
I feel like a Brown would probably suit his personality well, but feel free to give him anything you want. (Though a male dragon is preferred…) And feel free to maul!!!
