Name: Kailea, Kai for short (“kI-lA”)
Gender: Female
Age: 17 turns
Sexuality: Heterosexual more often than not, though she may be swayed every once in a while
Location: Western Hold
Rank: Dragon Candidate
Personality: Kai isn’t overall a friendly or unfriendly person, ending up on the fairly neutral side of most things. She is quite willing to get into verbal or physical disagreements and has quite the tongue on her. She isn’t really very protective of others, though she will be if she dislikes a similar adversary. Mocking and quiet, she can be quite humored by the antics of those she finds to be idiotic and inferior. This isn’t everyone, however, and she really has quite a good judge of character, only dislike those who make themselves unlikable, and enjoying the company of those who like to be enjoyed.
There is an intelligence to Kailea, and she isn’t about to voice it. She prefers to keep quiet and just see who notices her. Though when asked her direct opinion she will do one of two things, give it to someone she likes or respects, or lies completely to someone she looks down on or finds to be an idiot. She is not above holding grudges, though she will also remember any favors done to or for her. However, her intelligence doesn’t fully limit her strength, which she will use only if necessary.
Around children…Kai is fairly useless. She doesn’t seem to believe that she was ever like one of those things…they make loud noises and smell bad. She doesn’t do either of those. If she were near a crying child she would wonder why no one had stopped it from being so loud and walk away quickly, so that no one dared put her to task with it. Not very maternal, she has no desire to have children, and if she does she will quickly put them in the crèche.
Appearance: Kai is not the most irrevocably beautiful thing in the world, nor is she the worst creature ever put together by fate or genetics. She is mildly above average, though she can put on quite the seductive look when she has the desire to. Her hair is perfect black, long and thick it flows in the wind enticingly, or it hangs rather flatly about her face. However it does draw attention to how pale she is in comparison to the ebony locks. Her eyes are dark as well, an earthy brown, like that of moist soil perfect for growing. A streak or two of green might catch the light every once in a while, but nothing to really set them apart from a brown or hazel color.
Her features are delicate, about her face, her body slim like a dancer’s. She has no real bust to speak of, though she still appears very womanly. She stands at five feet six inches, average height, weighing a little less than average due to her small, shapeless form. Indeed, many have tried to put some weight on the girl, but her fast metabolism keeps it off, leaving behind a slightly undesirable result. Though she manages to appeal to men anyways, but only a very few women wouldn’t.
Family:
Father: Kandon, Harper
Mother: Enaya, Fisher
Brother: Oran, Journeyman Harper(older)
Sister: Edona, Apprentice Fisher (younger)
Pets: None
History: Kailei was born in Tillek Hold, the fourth member of her family. There was a bit of role reversal already set in place with her father being the sensitive harper and her mother being the critical and down-to-Pern fisher. There was a few conversations between her parental units about the crafts that their children would go into. Kandon didn’t want his children’s hands to be useless and too overworked to play instruments or to have a steady hand for script, while Enaya didn’t want her children to be push-overs who didn’t know an honest day’s work – no offense meant to Kandon of course.
So both Oran and Kailei were raised to work the lines and to not be afraid of torrential storms or too disgusted to gut their own fish, while still practicing vocal exercises everyday and learning the basics to storytelling and dance. Their hands might be ruined, but at least they would still be useful at a Gather! When Kailei was seven turns old Enaya had a third child, Edona. A younger sister. Kailei didn’t know what to do with her, the girl only screamed at the top of her lungs and pooped. Kai hated looking after her and was more than happy to let Oran do that task as he was older and more responsible, though only two turns.
It was obvious by the time Kailei was fifteen she wasn’t going to be a very womanly figure, disliking the company of the children as well as those who were old enough to have reverted themselves back to a childlike state. She made a decision that if she ever got old enough to where someone else had to feed her and remind her of her name she would mindlessly drag herself to any amount of water, drop her face in it, and breathe deeply. Of course, this was a statement that caused an argument with her mother. After a few words too many, she decided to stick herself to her father’s craft, following her brother. This was pretty much the worst insult she could do to her mother…who later forgot the whole thing when she realized Edona took a liking to fish.
When the decision came to create holds on the Western Continent, Kandon had the idea to explore the world and set foot on a whole new continent. Of course, the decision caused the family to pack up everything they wanted to take with them and head out, half a turn after the hold had been set up. They managed to work out well there, with their children happy. Although Oran almost didn’t go with them, wanting to stay behind with a female friend of his, however he eventually decided that there would be female friends elsewhere. This decision was mostly made when the female in question decided to go after a different male friend back in Tillek. Settling in didn’t seem too difficult, and almost every family member found a niche there and managed to be happy.
Kai, however, still feels a bit out of place at the Hold and wants to see a bit more of life before making a real life for her there. All the adults wanted her married off. All the boys wanted to help with that. However, she knew well enough that anything of the sort would lead to the demand for children. Oh how awful that would be. So she threw herself into her craft, Harpering. Dancing mostly, but also storytelling and making sure she could carry enough of a tune to be a Gather Harper. At least that way she could see a bit more…all she had to do now was wait for the Gather to head over and pick her up.
Dragon Preference: Chef’s choice.
