Valha would not have realized that the clutch had started hatching if Hati hadn’t, in her excitement, slipped up and let a stray thought wriggle into her owner’s mind. It was the thought that it would be an amazing force to have a fair of such size at her beck and call that bit into Valha’s thoughts like a dragon into a herdbeast, and it inspired just about as much panic in Valha as it would in said herbeast.
“Nope!” She shot to her feet, running out of the weyr she was visiting without another word; Leaving poor Ni’on to presumably wonder what in the world she was about with that sort of abrupt exit – she’d have to apologize to him later. Mith was hovering over the eggs, up in her own weyr, and thus was useless for a speedy return – Valha toyed with the idea of attempting to co opt Unath in order to get to the eggs faster, but decided she 1. didn’t know where Unath was, 2. Did not want to deal with Q’sis if she attempted it, 3. Didn’t know if she even could do it, and 4. Wasn’t quite that desperate yet.
Still, upon arrival to her own weyr, she may have been a bit forceful about entering – generally people didn’t kick in their own doors.
A low, excited hum greeted her, cutting off briefly as the entire crew of firelizards turned to look at her, before they turned back to the sand-filled basket on the hearth. “Nope,” she told them all again, walking over to awkwardly hoist the basket into her arms, walking quickly towards her weyr ledge, mentally commandeering Mith as she went.
Handing the basket into her/Mith’s foreclaws, making sure the grip on the basket was both secure enough to told and gentle enough not to break or spill the eggs out, Valha scrambled up Mith’s neck, grabbing on and urging the tan down; the dining hall would be perfect – dinner was over, and evening was setting in; but they should still be plenty of people around, with the added advantage of wherhandlers being out and about to add to it.
Thumping into the ground, Valha fell more than climbed down; only extending Mith’s wing kept her from face planting directly onto the cold ground, as it was, she was more than a little scuffed when she reclaimed the basket from Mith. A loud crack greeted her; and sure enough, there was already the end of a little pink nose sticking through a hole in one of the eggs.
“This is not going to happen. No. Stay in your eggs, you little monsters. Stay.” Giving up all vague pretenses of dignity, Valha ran, Entering the dining hall at a run and bumping straight through three people without apology until she could deposit the basket of eggs by the hearth, Valha then fled to the opposite side of the room and ducked down beside a table just as her fair came flooring in to crowd around the basket again, humming and trilling and making a nuisance of themselves, “Firelizard hatching! Please, take them. All of them.”
Utilizing Mith’s voice, too, Valha called out on a much wider scale, Firelizards hatching in the dining hall. Come if you would like to try for one.
OOC: Guys, once things get going, there will be a lot of babies out and doing stuff and you are all highly encouraged to interact with them. DON’T BE AFRAID TO TOUCH. Only some of them would bite.
PS: I am not enforcing a posting order. Go nuts, people.

...that was weird.
I think her eggs are hatching.
"Oh!" Ni'on said, having stared at his door in disbelief for several moments after Valha fled. So it wasn't something he'd done horribly wrong after all, what a relief. But wait! The eggs! He wanted one of those eggs, but he was far too polite to have asked her for one as a gift. That meant, he thought in excitement, that for the first time, he was going to participate in a real hatching. One where a firelizard was not guaranteed. Oh, he was prepared for this one. Totally prepared.
It just so happened that his destination was the dining hall anyway, and he got Valha-Mith's message on the way. Fantastic, so he wouldn't be late! Swinging into the kitchen, he grabbed some sweetrolls and meat and headed over to his friend, giving her a nudge. "You can run all the way away if you want, and I'll watch the eggs," he said. Just to make sure she didn't end up with yet another little one.
Drummer peeked out from under his collar. If a pink came anywhere near them, he would just chase her off again.
----
Firelizards, huh?
Well, Lorikiet definitely came in handy. M'iles might as well go. "You should wait here. You're getting a little big for the dining hall," he told Taceuth. And the place would probably be packed, with a Weyr-wide call like that.
M'iles, I cannot be kept away from history in the making! If I cannot go to the hatching, the hatching will have to come to me!
M'iles gave him a loving swat on the shoulder. "All right, all right. Trot along, then."
Thus, in company with his blue dragonet, M'iles set forth and soon arrived at the dining hall. At least Taceuth's presence meant they could easily shove their way to the front lines, not that either would be so uncouth as to really shove. Just give the appearance of being about to shove, if you see what I mean. M'iles was feeling quite good about his chances, in fact...until he saw it. One large, shining egg. A queen was in this clutch. This was the clutch with a queen - he'd heard buzz around the Weyr about it.
Oh, no. No, no, no. He just knew that at any moment, his brother would come rampaging in. Sharding destiny.
----
Meanwhile, in the infirmary, Delilah definitely had no interest in obtaining a flit for herself. However, she felt sorry for one of her patients. "I can't leave my post, but wait a moment," she suggested to Fel. Moments later, Agnith called out to Ni'on directly, though she let Devath in on the secret. Ni'on, Ni'on! Little Fel is in the infirmary and needs an escort to the hatching! You're going, aren't you? Can you come and pick her up?
Ni'on immediately trotted off to fetch Fel, entirely forgetting about Valha. Oh, poor Valha. But hey, he was going to be right back.
----
Mya was sitting at a table in the dining hall, eating and preparing herself mentally for tonight's chores and lessons, when the commotion started. Mysk appeared from under the table, sniffing at the air. Fiery lizards, he said, intrigued. Firelizards were cute and funny and small, and he liked them more than he usually admitted. Not that he usually admitted much of anything.
"Well, let's try to get one," she suggested, picking up the rest of her meatroll. Mysk led the way to the basket, and Mya settled nearby to wait while Mysk did his best impression of an egg.
(ooc: Chek knows this, but for the record: until/unless Ni'on Impresses, with the exception of M'iles's application for the queen egg, only Ni'on will be entered for a flit. And he only gets ONE. After that M'iles and Mya are both up for my potential second. yaaaay.)

"Did you hear that? Did you hear? Oooooh, like, now we get another chance to check out cute little flitlets!" Laurierd had been lounging on her bed half asleep, Lauriesk coiled at her feet like a watchdog, but now the woman had jumped up and was splashing water over her face. "Come on, Lauriesk darling!" And with that, she was off, running full speed towards the Dining Hall.
Lauriesk yawned and stretched. Esssh, weak little creatures weren't her problem. However, there might be many people and creatures at the hatching, and they might try to bite Laury. The green rolled lazily on the floor. She didn't want to leave the warm, creaky bed, but if she had to... Laury wait. Coming with. Lauriesk wasn't good at running, but she slithered surprisingly fast along the floor.
"By the first Egg! Those eggs are soooo tiny! And sooooo cute! You're, like, super lucky!" Laurierd greeted the basket with excited squeals. "Who's the lucky mother? There are so many! Look, look Lauriesk, that one already got its nose out," she continued in an enthusiastic whisper. She didn't want to scare the little darlings. Her green wher seemed to roll eyes and settled comfortably by the fire, where she could keep an eye on the whole room. Lauriesk didn't care about gooey little babies. They didn't even do anything interesting and you couldn't eat them. But there might still be something that would threaten Laury. Someone was hiding under a table, and she kind of smelled of stress or onion rings or whatever. Something that Lauriesk wouldn't let distress Laury.
Wrapping some strands of blonde hair around her finger, Laurierd settled near the basket. She cooed quietly at the eggs and at times, smiled. As her eyes passed Valha, she tried to make eye contact and motion her to come closer to see the cute little eggs and babies.

It was constant darkness and had been that way for a little while now. Fel constantly had a headache and it hurt to even move her head. Shard that stupid queenrider to between. How she hated him. His punishment… It would come. She would be sure of it. As the healers weren’t aware of the cause of the injury, they were taking extra precautions against her fractured cheek. They warned her she may be blind of have double vision but this did not frighten Fel as much as it possibly should. It just made her more determined. If something such as that had happened to her, she would just have to work harder.
On her stomach and by her side lay her pets, keeping a vigil over their injured bonded. Fel had been allowed to walk around and head out of the infirmary at times but never without a healer. Personally, she thought that the firelizards could very well lead her the way she wanted to go but didn’t dispute the orders too much. Rest was needed to get better and all the more exact her revenge. In time. Time was imperative.
Eggs. Firelizard eggs. “Ooh…” Fel sighed softly, she so wanted to attend, “That would be so much fun.” A voice, a familiar voice, made her shift her head ever so slightly to hear Delilah speaking to her. “Really?” In spite of the pain, Fel grimaced something of a smile and in moments was heading to the hatching, holding Ni’on’s arm. It almost made her giggle. She felt like a holder lady being escorted somewhere. Dhanuth was close on mind as she walked, almost hovering about in a wary manner. Likewise, her firelizards flew above. She could hear them and Ash following along in her wake. It would be ever so much fun to add more pets to her family. This was, after all, her family now. As she walked into the warmth of the dining hall, she could hear the sounds of the eggs faintly rolling from side to side. "How exciting. You have firelizards don't you? A group of them... Singing?" She asked Ni'on thoughtfully.
((ooc: if possible at all throw two Fel’s way, one her way or none her way. LUCK OF THE DRAW! ^^))

chores, so he'd high-tailed it out of there as quickly as possible once it was free-time. The dining hall had been chosen as his hide-out of choice, mostly for the likelihood of a crowd being present... and for the food. Food had ended up winning over companionship, for once in the attention-starved candidates life. He'd claimed a table that had only sported a few other people, mostly weyrfolk who were a bit older then Gorjeen himself. They had vanished off to places unknown by the time Gorjeen was even half-way through his meal, off to do chores and other boring things that Gorjeen had no interest in. He looked up when Valha entered the room, a puzzled frown on his face. Did something happen? He pushed himself up, plate of meat-rolls in hand, just in time to hear her shout. "Firelizards?" There was a hatching of firelizards? Right here? For free? Gorjeen's eyes widened to a comical degree, the candidate's head snapping around to look at the basket that had been abandoned on the hearth. Free firelizards! Firelizards were cute little hat-stealing monstrosities, and Gorjeen wanted one. He set off in the direction of the basket, peering at the eggs with obvious curiosity. He'd never seen firelizard eggs, having only met his brother's blue when the firelizard had already been good and hatched. A firelizard would be useful. He'd be able to write home without waiting for the sudden arrivals of his brother's blue, and he'd have company in this new Weyr. Admittedly, the company was the most tempting part of his new quest to acquire a firelizard. He took a spot near the clutch, casting curious glances at the two whers. "Why'd she run off so fast?" Gorjeen asked no one in particular, looking in the direction Valha had gone. "Firelizards don't eat people." At least, Gorjeen didn't think so. They seemed a bit too small for that. Maybe they swarmed people? But firelizards seemed nice, from the two he knew! Nice and cute! He wanted one. He wanted one and he was going to feed it everything. Okay. Maybe not everything. Only tasty things.[/ul]

Anyway, as I was saying Mine...Mine, are you listening to your Seleneth? Oh, good grief Mayalene listen to me why don't you? Liiiisten...oh, such a nice word. Maya..Maya...
The dark haired cyanrider ignored her dragon pointedly, her body curling up on itself as she hunkered in a darker corner of the dining hall. She didn't want anything to do with the growing crowd of people that had followed once the tanrider had run into the space with her hatching basket of firelizard eggs. Still, the actual firelizards themselves intrigued the young woman. Wouldn't it be nice to have a little one with her?
Mayalene almost hissed at the idea of pushing through the people to get to even see the basket though. Touching someone else, being shoved into anothers elbow or side...no, not happening. I'm just sitting back here...I like watching, watching isn't as bad. Seleneth snorted as she curled her tail around her feet, her eyes on the skies above as she listened to the bustling of the Weyr from the WeyrHeights. Yes, Hers would listen in a sense of the word. She had wanted Mayalene to go up and stand with the crowd, not behind it. However, all would happen in good time she supposed. Hmmr...time, what a lovely word.
---
There are more of those things hatching.
Yes! Oh yes there are!
Sakalas bounced up, her curly hair-purple more than red since the last time she had talked to Saia-forming a halo of sorts around her head as she ran over to the tanrider and the basket. "Oh! Oh! I want one. I love flits." Well, that and they always reminded her of home. Her entire life had been surrounded by firelizards and hatchings just like this one. Riku chirped curiously from her place on her back, the pink peeking out at the small nose that had pushed through its shell.
NOTHERPINKTHINGSPOTTED! MUSTWELCOMEPINKTHINGINTOWORLDBYSAYINGRIKUBEBETTERPINKTHING!
The greenrider simply craned her head around to blink at the firelizard. "What?" Her mouth was slackened as she said the word, her eyes conveying her confusion. Snorting, Noke popped out of between with a meatroll in her mouth, nipping at it before letting it go into Saka's hand. Featherthing needed good num-nums for babything, yep! She was good Leadflit! Crooning and then humming, the cyan wove her tail about Saka's arm, closing in her wings against her bright sides as she turned whirling eyes on the hatching eggs.
Riku hissed in response at the newcomer, disliking the proximity even less than the idea of Noke believing she was the leader of their little duo. Riku, in her mind was better. She was older, prettier, and much louder than her cyan fairmate after all! Hushing the two, Lorenth shoved the flits mentally, hitting Sakalas in the process who quickly put an end to all three of their mental tirades. Or, she would have if Lorenth could ever really be stopped.
I can't believe you're getting another one of those dimglow pests. That wherry-brained green Ani-whatever was right, they're no good...maybe for dinner..hmmr, can I eat one if you get another?
No you can't eat it. Now shush Lorenth, we're going to have so much fun and have another baby and be one big happy family!
The rider couldn't help the giant smile that crossed her face, or the hopping she started to do from one foot to the other as she pushed through the forming crowd to stay toward the front. This was just so much fun! Riku gave a half-hearted chirp, still upset about losing the "battle" of who was leader. Noke instead trilled a high pitched note, her tiny jaws opening to try and snap up another piece of the meatroll in Saka's hand. "Nope, that's not for you. You'll get some later, baby comes first!"
(Sakalas is of course in it as my Queen app. If she doesn't get it she's in the drawing first, then Maya is in it second please and thank you. :) Yay babies!! )

Naraevhyn had been practicing gitar in her weyr for Simhath's amusement when her boys had started trilling their birth song. She raised a brow at the pair and frowned, watching them between away.
"Simhath?" she asked.
Firelizards are hatching in the Dining Hall, Mith says. Weren't you interested in getting new friends for us? Simhath asked in reply. Nara smiled.
"Yes, actually, my dearest. I know how you love the boys and hopefully a female will choose our little family." She set her gitar back in its case and slid it under her bed, then bound her hair back. She knew Ranulf and Kraka were already in the dining hall, watching the eggs intently. They kept sending her images of everyone in the Hall as well as the eggs, urgent images conveying their excitement. Nara smiled at their excitement and climbed onto Simhath's back. "Take me to the Dining Hall, darling," she said calmly. Simhath bobbed her head in assent and leapt off her ledge, gliding carefully down to the Dining Hall. She lowered her neck to let Naraevyhn slide off easier, then took off back to her ledge when Nara had safely gotten inside the Hall.
Naraevyhn carefully looked around the Dining Hall, then moved to stand near the hatching eggs. She called her boys to her mentally, both of her male flitters coming to her quickly. Ranulf perched on her head, his eyes swirling in rainbow colors while he watched the eggs. Kraka wrapped himself around her shoulders, his eyes locked onto the eggs and also swirling in rainbow hues. Nara stroked their backs calmly and waited. She'd seek out Valha after the fervor had died down, remembering the Tanrider's dismay when Hati had brought them Kraka and Skadi's eggs. Aware that her old roommate had picked up more flitters since then and realizing Valha was not easily seen, Nara decided she'd wait and ensure she was not the reason Valha got more flitters.

G'dan had long since finished his evening meal, and as such he usually would have returned to his weyr; but as things stood, the evening was crisp, the dining hall was comfortable despite the number of people present, and he had just been struck by a new idea while watching the candle burn down... it would just take a little bit of time to jot it down, and sketch the initial thoughts out...
And so when, a solid candlemark later, Valha came rushing into the dining hall to deposit the oversized basket of eggs at the hearth, he was still present. The call peaked his interest, and Rhodi bumped his little bronze head against the rider's cheek enthusiastically. New! Newnewnew! Exciting! New little ones to show things. He could show them ALL THE THINGS. Go, gogogo!
The shy tinkerer chuckled softly at Rhodi's excited chirps and whistles, lifting a hand to gently scratch his head. "Alright, we'll go. Just hold on." G'dan carefully rolled up the scrap of hide he'd been delineating his newest potential project on, stowing it in one of the pouches on his belt with care. The graphite stick was slid into a small container of its fellows to protect it from breaking; the material was more costly than charcoal, but much better for the crisp details he wanted, less prone to smudging, so he'd laid the marks down for them at the last Gather he'd attended.
Ambling over to the hearth, he peered around one of the other observers, a small grin lighting his face at the sight of the first, pink nosetip. Yes, the hatching was already starting - and he couldn't wait to see what emerged from all of those eggs, those little bundles of possibility.

Naita was laying down on her bed, enjoying a moment of rest. Today had been a rather busy day so far and the chance to take a break for a moment had been greatly appreciated. Unfortunately for her it didn't seem like she would be relaxing for long. From where he sat at the foot of her bed Naisk raised his head and commented, tiny dragons hatching in dining hall. A small frown crossed her face as the wherling asked, "so? we already have Fancy and she caused more than enough trouble." Hearing her name being said the little pink raised her head from where she sat at her bonded's side and let out a little trill. The wher simply shook his head in response and said, pink thing come before Naisk. Naisk want Naisk's own tiny dragon.
With that he got up and started approaching the dining hall without giving his handler a choice. A groan left Naitia as she stood up and began to follow him. She could try to argue but she doubted it would matter in the end. If Naisk wanted a Firelizard they would probably end up with a Firelizard. Within moments they were in the dining hall, Naisk eagerly awaiting the first hatchlings, his handler scowling for all it was worth.
-----
Kurin had been fiddling with a piece of wood when the call for the Firelizard hatching rang out. The moment he heard it he dropped the object and began to sprint from his room to the dining hall. Too long he had been completely alone, he wanted a bonded, even if it was only a Firelizard. This was his chance to have a companion by his side during this torturous wait to impress a dragon. He had been hoping that maybe there wouldn't be too many people hoping to impress a flitter. When he arrived and saw that quite a few people had already gathered a scowl crossed his face. Great, just what I need, he thought. Competition.

Frayya nearly stuck herself with a needle when the dragon’s loud, alien voice boomed about her head. “For Faranth’s sake!” The Apprentice Weaver exclaimed slamming the light green dress she’d been working on back down on the table. There was always something going on in the Weyr that had a dragon’s mind barging into her every thought. She didn’t understand how anyone got any work down here. The fact that she happened to be interested in what the dragon said did nothing to ease her irritation. She pushed the pin into a pin cushion and stood up smoothing her rich purple skirt over her hips.
Frayya had told that onerous tan rider that she had ‘no intention of Impressing anything’ on her first day at the Weyr. She had meant it. She didn’t want to be like all the other weavers turned dragon riders. She was going to be a Master Weaver. But a fire-lizard…and if the rumors proved true a gold fire-lizard…was something she might just be interested in Impressing. Almost all of the Masters had fire-lizards…and the good ones had golds. A gold would be even more proof that she deserved to be raised and even if she didn’t get a gold the creatures were dead useful.
Frayya walked into the dining hall and joined the steadily gathering group of people. She didn’t notice the two whers she was standing next to until one of the wherhandlers started squealing at the sight of the eggs. She cringed internally at being so close to the repulsive creatures. They might seem tame next to their bonded but the hatching had shown her another side. She didn’t want anything to do with them. She rolled her eyes at the wherhandler’s behavior and turned her attention back to the basket of fire-lizard eggs. A pink nose had already cracked through its shell. “She probably has enough of the pesky creatures to keep her busy,” Frayya said to the man who had asked where the tan rider was going.

Th'or was, as any weyrling possible could be, entirely ravenous after the hard day's training. Winter was the month where food must be consumed and conserved, there could be nothing that would go to waste, not when there were others who go hungry otherwise. And so, with all the enthusiasm of a ravenous dragon, much like the delicate, dainty lady he could piggyback around- though for how much longer was certainly up in the air, as she grew larger by the day, it seemed. Already, she was almost as long as he was tall, and she was a most wonderful partner to have; all the energy and enthusiasm he could have anticipated, or ever wanted, in a dragon.
And she was, in his very private though eagerly boasted about opinion when asked, one of the prettiest pinks he'd ever seen and was clearly the very finest of them all. Kallyeith, in her own opinion, quite fiercely agreed with this, lifting her head from where she'd been eyeing Th'or's third helping of meat and almost, but not quite, drooling at the sight of it. A fierce lady did not drool, it was for bad manners. My Th'or! There is much excitement going on! I think the valiant lady of gentle giant Mith has eggs! I wish to go see them and witness a hatching of others besides my own hatching family and not-siblings, let us be prompt and give our congratulations to her mighty achievement in raising healthy, hatching eggs- even if they are not to be as fine as me!
Th'or considered his options. On one hand, he rather liked the idea of having a fine firelizard companion that M'iles would undoubtably find time to aid him in training the way he had trained his own assistant. On the other... could he truly devote the time to the little one as well as to his fine Kallyeith? I must admit, Kallyeith, I find myself... uncertain, as I do not wish to find myself too distracted by a firelizard, and thus neglect your needs.
Her eyes whirrled blue and green as she chortled, bobbing her head in mirth. As if you could ever do such a silly thing, my Th'or! We are one, you and I, and we are the mightiest together, we shall never forget one another. Now, come, let us go add a friend to our
The two made their merry way- or rather, Th'or made his merry way through the throng rather easily. Kallyeith turned herself into a pink bag, clinging to his shoulder with her front paws and rested her head atop his own. Her eyes spotted someone having just a tad bit of trouble, and she nudged her beloved in said direction with a mere image of the child. Clearly, they should do something about it, as powerful and amazing as they were- it was only the rightest of the right things to do!
"And up we go!" Th'or thundered with a hearty laugh, catching Shino beneath the arms and swung her up like she weighed next to nothing at all on to the shoulder Kallyeith hadn't occupied herself with clinging to. A row of heroic, white shining teeth revealed themselves as the tall, muscular blonde man gave the small girl-child a grin. "I am Th'or, and this fine lady does the great honor of being my bonded, greet her properly, Kallyeith!"
She wiggled, getting a great angle on her new found shoulder-buddy and beamed in the way only a pink dragon possibly could. I, Kallyeith, bonded forever to the very amazing and wonderful Th'or, do greet you, oh youngling of the Weyr! Kallyeith beamed at Shino, looking all too pleased with herself for having Th'or to call her own. Mine and I were watching, and you were in great distress! Mine is wonderful, and so he has helped you out of such a terribly sad situation, isn't my Th'or wonderful? Oooh, look! Babies! There are babies there, young Weyrchild! Wouldn't you like one too? Oh, oh! Mith's is there! Oh great gentle giant Mith! Kallyeith of Th'or the great and strong greets you and your lady!
"Greetings and a job very well done, maiden of the skies!" Th'or boomed out in greeting as Kallyeith pointed out Valha in her harried state. "A fine evening to celebrate the new lives, you should be pleased for raising such a fine clutch!"

Impressive, isn’t it? The viridian’s eyes whirled with pride as he took a few hops back to take in his latest and greatest creation: a small circle of stones, piled about four feet high, formed a wall around an unremarkable patch of dirt in the weyrbowl. V’yeri had a hard time looking at the thing with anything but reproach for making him sweat for the past few days—though at least the cool early winter weather made the work somewhat bearable—but he tried to set those feelings aside. Vespasiath was practically giddy, and V’yeri couldn’t help but not want to crush his dragon’s childlike delight. He peered at the Vespasiath’s tiny fort with as fresh eyes as he could manage, and while it wasn’t all that interesting, he supposed it was significant that his dragon had been the chief architect of something that at least looked like…something. “Huh. I guess it is.”
Come, we must see it now from the inside! I have to check for any structural deformities. Vespasiath bounded forward through the little gap in the wall that served as an entryway, and busied himself with examining his handiwork. V’yeri stared at his dragon for a moment before shaking his head and making his way inside. “Where did you even learn words like that?” He supposed it seemed silly to even question it, though, since for that matter, how were dragons able to speak at all, just out of the shell? Vespasiath, for his part, didn’t bother to dignify the question with an answer. Yes, yes, it is perfect! No holes in the any of the walls. Though something does seem lacking… He paused, turning his narrow-boned face toward the entryway. Aha! Of course, that won’t do at all. With no door, just anyone could waltz in here.
“No offense Vespasiath, but wouldn’t a door keep you out as well?” V’yeri said, crossing his arms and looking down at the viridian with a smile. I meant a door I will easily be able to move, actually. Perhaps a very big rock? V’yeri nearly groaned on the spot—just what he wanted, hauling around even heavier rocks. But rather than outright upset his dragon, he decided to simply hope Vespasiath would forget about that detail. “Maybe later, but at the moment I’ve gotten hungry from all this work you’ve made me do, and I’m going to the dining hall.” Vespasiath watched sadly as V’yeri left his little structure, wings drooping a bit. But V’yeri, surely you can eat later? You should really stay here. It is…it is much safer in here, that’s why! It might be dangerous if you leave. V’yeri just smiled at his dragon’s transparent attempts to manipulate him. “It’s just the weyrbowl Vespasiath, I think I’ll take my chances.”
-----
Taza stared glumly down into her mug of klah, hardly noticing that the hot steam was beginning to bead on her forehead. She had found Calmere at last, but things were still…well, awkward. Taza had all the awkward she could want in her normal interactions with people half the time; it would be nice if at least her own husband was an exception. Logic told her there wasn’t all that much use in worrying about it, and that she would just have to wait and see how things went with Calmere in time—but that didn’t really stop her from feeling unhappy about it.
At least she was a candidate, though. She kept telling herself that, hoping it would help, though it still just didn’t feel real yet. Taza supposed her mind was just too preoccupied with her marital issues to process the other changes her life had brought lately. What she really needed was something to write on, something she could scribble some number puzzles on, but she wasn’t sure where she would get something like that in a weyr. She supposed she would have to ask one of the candidatemasters, but she wasn’t looking forward to that. If there was one thing she wasn’t keen on at the moment, it was adding more stress to her day.
The no-doubt fascinating depths of the hazy brown liquid in her cup lost their hold on her attention at last as someone burst into the dining hall—really, really hungry, maybe? The shorter girl seemed to be carrying a large basket, though, so maybe it was some new drudge taking supplies to the kitchen.
Or not. Firelizards? Was she really serious? Taza glanced around to see if anyone was going to see. Surely it had to be a prank of some kind—who would just give firelizard eggs away like that? Traders charged quite a lot for them at her hold, certainly more marks than Taza could ever justify spending on a pet. Not that she hadn’t still dreamt of having one like every other kid. The girl was probably selling them. Still, several people seemed to be crowding around to check it out, and she didn’t see any marks being exchanged. Taza still didn’t think it was likely that they were free, but she supposed she’d be kicking herself later if they had been and she’d missed out. Klah forgotten entirely, she got up and made her way over to the group, trying to get a look at the basket.

Shino was preparing herself for the possibility of yet another nightly excursion to track down and stalk a Wher when a dragon's voice whispered to her. It was kind, and she squeaked lightly, but the message was so much more important. A flitter hatching. She'd been trying to get a flitter for the past six years, and she'd wanted one so hard. Well, her eleventh birthday was just ahead of her, so maybe...maybe...her eyes went big and wide, and tears began to brim around them from happiness. From a dream. Maybe one of them would like her, and go home with her. And then she could feed it, and listen to it during the night, and...and...
She was off like a shot, heedless of anyone that might be in her way, in her unseemly haste to get to the eggs. But she was short, and even with the energy of a child seeing her joy in front of her, she only got to the dining hall after a crowd had gathered. She stared at the tremendous crowd, and anxiety and despair began to scratch at her. She wouldn't be able to get any closer. There was no way that, small and weak as she was, she could fight through that mob in order to get close enough to a flit to Impress.
It just...it wasn't fair. She bobbed up and around the people in the way, hoping to catch glimpses, and even ducked down to see what she could through a sea of legs, but there was just nothing for it. She was so preoccupied that she never even heard Th'or approaching, not until his hands caught her under her arms, and lifted her up as she squeaked in shock, plopped onto a shoulder not occupied by...a very pink dragonet with delightfully blue and green eyes. And on the shoulder of a man with such good eyes and shining teeth...
Well, but she could really hardly feel threatened at all with such a friendly and happy Pink next to her. In fact, she was having trouble deciding on looking at the eggs, and the flitters coming out of them, and the Pink dragonet right next to her. Oh no, which one?! She didn't know. Her head turned back, and forth, and back, and forth. Until she realized that she needed to respond to both of them! “T-thanks for l-lifting me up,” she stammered out, still caught by the pink, but also by the rugged and heroic line of her rescuer's jaw line. You could stop a Wher with that jaw, she thought. Sharpen its claws on the sheer majesty until those claws shone as well. “I...I'm not tall enough to see. My-my name is Shino.”
Yes, your Th'or is wonderful. Her mental voice didn't shake, at least. But she was more marveling at talking to the dragonet than at her rescuer. Finally, since Kallyeith suggested it, she looked over at the babies just hatching, and squealed with pleasure. Oh, they were so cute! She needed one. I...I've always wanted a little flitter. For so long! The longing in her voice was so plain, it was as obvious as a Gold amid Tunnelsnakes.

Outside, in the weyrbowl, something caught Mith's attention – a young man and a young dragon, a viridian – not pink – was slowly coming towards where she huddled up against the weyr wall in the growing dark. Her eyes whirled blue, sliding briefly into green, before returning to a simple blue as the whirling stilled. The man was familiar, the dragon was not. How he was familiar didn't matter, though she had a niggling sense that maybe she should be doing something nice for him? Flitters were nice. Stalking towards V'yeri, as much as she was able to, Mith cast barely a shadow in the fading light of dusk as she wandered over to investigate the odd structure the viridian had built, then tilted her head to look at tiny dragon and young man, jaw falling open just a tiny bit as she chirped quietly to herself. Oh! She knew what to do with him now! Once more, V'yeri was slurped into Mith's mouth; this time, though, Vespasiath joined him, the young viridian hanging awkwardly out of the adult tan's mouth. Thankfully, this time no interference was needed from any humans – Mith's intentions were simple, clear and very basic: these two needed to be over there, by the flitters. Practically prancing with pride and doing a good thing, head held as high as she safely could with a mouthful of people, she bounced back over towards the dining hall and released viridian and rider from her toothy embrace, blocking them in firmly with her head. Firelizards., she whispered faintly to the pair. * * * Idunn, perched on the edge of the basket, hissed and flared her wings; Hati, a moment later, lead the charge to drive the worst of the press of bodies back from the hatching eggs. Their distress was enough to roust Valha from her hiding place. Fighting her way through the surprisingly large crowd, Valha made her way to a spot between angry flitters and the crowd, “Alright, alright, everyone sit down and give them a little space. Everyone knows how this works, right? Flitter lands on you, try to shove food in it's mouth, success. As far as food goes, um...Ah! Thank you,” she told a drudge who joined her, arms full of a heaping bowl of scraps. She motioned the woman to start moving around the crowd so everyone could get a handful of meat, wincing a bit as she heard eggshells cracking behind her; far closer to the eggs than she liked. Indeed, there was quite some action in the clutch, eggs rocking left and right, the little pink with her nose out of her shell heaving deep breaths in as she slowly worked the hole bigger. She, however, was not to be the first to fully break shell. Half-buried in sand, a slightly larger egg gave an alarming wobble before, with a sharp crack, tiny dark blue legs kicked a hole in the shell. They stuck into the air upside down for a long moment before the flitter managed to get his bearings and wriggle his way out. Idunn stretched out to nuzzle him, her firstborn, before turning her attention back to the clutch. A few seconds later, another flitter ripped her way free, eyes whirling red and she posed, splay legged in the sand, wings spread. She had someone who needed her! The tiny green didn't hesitate at all, launching her dull green body out of the next, using her dam's human as a springboard into the crowd, jumping from one uninteresting human to another in seek of Hers. t didn't take long for her to zero in on her target, landing on purplish hair and scrabbling for a hold, ignoring the two other flitters in attendance. She poked Sakalas desperately around the temple with her blunt snout before she finally relaxed – Her's was safe. Unharmed. Perfect. She heaved a tiny sigh of relief, and then, only then squeaked, demanding food. Sakalas Hex code: 589267 Inspiration: Fiercely Mothering The little blue, meanwhile, had joined his pink sister and helped her extricate herself from her egg... just in time for the little pink to get booped on the nose by a marbled green who'd hatched in secret near the back row. While the pink blinked in shock, shaking her head and huffing a little, the green streaked off, down one table leg and through the feet of the nearby humans....before abruptly doubling back to streak up one leg in particular. Clinging to Nara's face, the green booped her on the nose too, before opening her mouth to be fed. Naraevhyn Hex code: 099161 Inspiration: Speedy Personal-Space Invader As if to add injury to the indignity of her sister's nose boop, the egg right next to the pink cracked and rolled over on to her – she chirped in dismay and wriggled her way free, touching her face gently to her dark blue brother's before, like her first green sister, leaping to Valha's shoulder and twisting her head to examine the human. Valha laughed, though it really was more of a scream, and grabbed the pink off her shoulder a little more roughly than was absolutely necessary , taking a few solid steps forward into the crowd and then planting the pink firmly in Fel's hands. Instantly, the pink was captivated – oh! This one was hurt! And it was the best one of all these things; she would keep it, yes. And she would be very good to it so it didn't get hurt again. Fel Hex code: fe8a90 Inspiration: Curious and Gentle The dark blue rolled the egg that had smushed his sister back upright, and was promptly smacked in the nose by a fragment of eggshell. He sneezed, but continued to hold the egg even as his newest sibling crawled out and right atop him, head up and surveying the crowd like the master of it. She was, in fact, pink, though her shading could be said to lean more towards purple. Chest puffed up, she sauntered carefully down her brother's back, hopping down to the table from the basket and pacing around a few times, looking at the crowd. She chirped, commandingly, at one individual. HER individual, in fact, to come get her. He didn't. She chirped again, a little more insistently, but still, he evidently wasn't getting the idea. She heaved a tiny sigh, and spread her wings...seconds later, she slammed into the side of Ni'on's head, and chirped pointedly into his ear. He, and everything he owned – including those other flits, don't think she didn't see them – belonged to her. That meant his food was hers, too, by the way. Ni'on (Yes, pink, hahahaha) Hex code: fdeaf7 Inspiration: Confident and Domineering And, while the dark blue nosed over the rocking eggs in the clutch, another blue, seemingly marked in bubbled of various shades, had hatched and slunk away, staying to the shadows and trying to remain unseen by all the large, terrifying things in attendance. A big egg stopped him, though, and he paused, torn between escaping and investigating – finally, the mystery of the giant egg won, though barely. He patted at it softly with his front paws, finally finding a crevice and sticking his face in it, sniffing. What a strange egg! It was breathing! Was than an eye? He hopped up on the nearest thing, still moving slow and careful so nothing spotted him, to get a better look at the egg. What a mystery! He sat down to consider, and then jolted when his seat moved. Looking up into Mya's face, he shivered, but looked at the egg and back again. Was it her egg? He licked her thumb and then sidled carefully under her hand to hide himself from the view of others. She was good. She didn't see him, so she was good. And she had a strange mystery for him, too. Mya Hex code:ccdbef Inspiration: Mortally shy, Painfully Inquisitive Tiring of her firstborn nosing about the eggs, Idunn knocked him gently, but firmly, out of the basket. She crooned to him to lessen the hurt of it, but her demand was absolute. Find a human, now. The dark blue already had know who he wanted, he's just been busy with his siblings! His path, across one table and on to another one, was short, as His was not far. Settling before Laurierd, he tilted his head back and gave a squeaky croon to introduce himself. He was sorry he'd made her wait – he simply couldn't leave his siblings all alone. But that was done now, and he was here for her. Laurierd Hex Code: 033275 Inspiration: Generous and Helpful The hatching was far from over, though, and more eggs were starting to crack. Seeing that things were well in hand, and already having had far too close of a call for her state of mind, Valha fled the hall - or at least attempted to. Realistically, she got stuck somewhere in the crowd, simply too short to escape the press of bodies.

"Well, that was lucky! I'm so glad we got here in time!" Ni'on enthused, beaming as Fel Impressed a little peachy pink. Drummer hissed, vanishing down the back of his shirt. Too many pinks. One pink was too many pinks in his eyes.
The cyanrider waved happily at Nara as well, so engrossed in the arrival of friends and strangers that it sort of didn't occur to him that friends Impressing meant the hatching had started. Thus, he wasn't even looking at the purpleish pink when she started her insistent peeping, and staggered when she whomped into his ear, stinging a bit. Her hunger washed over him, vague but demanding, and he grinned, passing up a sweetroll.
Which was about the time he noticed she was pink, and Drummer lost his mind.
Her name would be Strummer, of course; that he had settled on long ago. But despite the rhyming names, Drummer was not about to let some upstart pink take over his family. He had been here first, and he didn't like her, and he wanted her to go away! In a flash he whipped out of Ni'on's shirt again and slammed into her tiny form. He wasn't a violent little guy, so he didn't bite her or anything rude like that, but he knocked the sweetroll out of her hands and chirped angrily that she ought to go and find somebody else to Impress, because she was too pink to play a gitar!
Flute creeled in unaccustomed alarm, and Piper tried to tug the two apart, but in seconds they were airborne. Drummer just wanted to knock her to the floor, honestly, but Strummer had made her decision, shardit! She bit Drummer on the nose to establish dominance.

The baby flitter brawl taking place nearby only made Mysk stiffen further. He was not leaving this egg. Not the flutter of an eyelid or the twitch of a muscle betrayed him as bitty paws began to pat at him. Help.
"Help with what, Mysk?" Mya asked, reaching over to pat her little black wher. Tiny claws suddenly dug into her hand, and she froze for a moment. Firelizard. Whole reason they were here, after all. Slowly she drew her hand back, and felt the flitter shiver at the realisation that he had chosen a human perch.
No break egg.
"All right, he's not breaking your egg," Mya said with a grin. The little guy's mental presence was definitely male, though she had no idea what color he was and could not appreciate his markings. Pity, for he was a gorgeous creature. She let him huddle in her lap for protection, cupping her hand over him, and fed him bits of meatroll.
----
"For Faranth's sake, stop shouting," M'iles reprimanded his brother, making his way to Th'or's side. He eyed Shino dubiously. "Adopting weyrbrats now, are we? I can't imagine why you think you need a flit and a child."
Lorikiet popped out of between to land on his shoulder, and Taceuth gave him a sharp nudge in the back. You forget your place!
"Yes, yes." M'iles drew a bit of hide and charcoal from his pocket and began to record the hatching at Taceuth's insistence, even though he didn't know half these people. More than half, really. But all the while he kept an eye on that shiny egg. Shards, he wanted her. Flitter eggs were valuable bargaining chips. More than that, though, he didn't want Th'or to have her. Th'or always got everything.

T'von was busy repairing his riding straps when the call had rang out. One of the straps was getting cracked from the cold between, despite his attentive care to it. It wasn't bad, but it was bad enough to be a problem. Still, as the call echoed through his mind, he considered getting another. Especially with his child on the way, the flitt could have someone to grow up with. Just at a much slower pace, of course.
Oh, hush. You know you want another one. Moruluth rumbled from his half of their weyr. But I don't see why not. Maybe give Raincloud someone else who can fly with him. T'von looked at the sleeping lizard, curled happily atop Greedo's pile of swindled goods. He smiled and shook his head. "Alright, it looks like I'm going to try to get one, then." He chuckled. He allowed Loess to follow him astride his dragon, but when Greedo tried, he immediately stopped him. "I don't need you going around trying to steal any eggs." Grrrrr! Grr! The black complained. How could his humanpet let him take all the things that no one wanted, yet when it came to the things that everyone wanted, he wasn't allowed?
"I'll snag you an eggshell. Is that better?" Greedo considered this for a moment, then gave a small gurgle. It would do. While the black pillie moved away, Moruluth dived off of his ledge, taking T'von to the Dining Hall. He landed just in time to see a curious sight. Both he and his rider watched as Mith quickly grabbed the viridianpair with her mouth. T'von couldn't help a grin cast over his face at the sight of the viridian hanging out of her mouth, not sure to be amused or horrified by it. Just as he was about to have Moruluth say something, she released her quarry in the Dining Hall
Moruluth let his rider off a short distance away, then moved closer to Mith, giving her a curious croon. T'von gently patted the side of the tan's head as he passed it. "There are better ways of getting someone where you need them to, dear." He said gently. "You're both ok, right?" he asked of the slime covered viridianpair. "Come on. Maybe getting yourselves a flitter will help. And a bath. But the bath can wait, if you want. It's not everyday there's a flitt hatching after all." He motioned to the crowd, which he walked towards.
He wasn't sure if they joined him, but he took a decent spot to the basket. Not too close where he'd be blocking people, yet not far away enough to be too far. Several of the eggs had already hatched and found their bondeds, including a rather odd-looking purple, or so he thought it was. Shaking his head, he gave a light croon towards the eggs, wondering if one will come to him.
(Let's see if T'von can keep his male-streak going strong! Give him as many or few as you want.)

{You hungry, Polyth?} O’hu asked although he could feel no pangs of hunger through their bond. He was so overly attentive to the brown’s every need that even the slightest twitch in his tail had O’hu pestering the brown with question. Polyth found it slightly exasperating but he would never criticize his rider. {Thank you but no I am still full from dinner.} The brown said as he shifted in his stone couch careful not to disturb the puppy sleeping at his side. ‘They look so cute together,’ O’hu thought to himself. He was glad that Polyth had taken so well to Hermy. He knew that some dragons could be rather possessive over their bonded but Polyth seemed to adore everything that O’hu cared about.
O’hu leaned back in his bed still a little in awe of the fact that he and Polyth got this big room all to themselves. His tiny brown looked almost comical curled up in his large stone couch. O’hu knew that he’d get bigger but even then he didn’t think Polyth would ever fully grow into the room. He would always be a little guy. ‘Gah…when did I start sounding so much like Eller?’ He wondered but his train of thought was broken as a call went out through the Weyr. He had gotten more accustomed to these sort of intrusions but they still didn’t quite compare to the natural way Polyth’s thoughts flowed into his.
{A fire-lizard hatching!} Polyth declared. {Can we go? We could get a little black to keep us company. There is plenty of room for him on my couch.} O’hu bit his lip considering. Polyth had become quite taken with Neras during their stint in the Infirmary. Polyth was already so much work though. Did he really want to take one another pet? He already had a baby pup and a baby dragon…how much more work could a baby fire-lizard be? Besides his dragon wanted it and O’hu would be loath to deny his dragon anything. {I mean…only if you see fit to get one,} Polyth amended. {I wouldn’t mind but I’m not sure if A’bar would recommend it…} {Yes. Perhaps we should ask Ablath permission first. That would be wise…can we at least go watch the hatching until we hear back from her?} {Yes, we can.}
O’hu jumped off his bed as Polyth bounced to his feet causing Hermy to wake up with a yip. He couldn’t bother to stand up though as he looked at O’hu and Polyth with a disgruntled expression. They had disturbed his slumber! He didn’t make any move to follow but as the pair made to leave the room he howled pitifully. “Lazy bones!” O’hu exclaimed as he walked back to pick up Hermy who nestled happily into his arms and started snoozing again. The trio made their way up to the Weyr just missing seeing a weyrling and his dragonet get swallowed by the tan dragon. A large crowd had already gathered around the hatching eggs so O’hu settled in at the back barely able to even see the basket. Polyth, though, had different ideas. He slipped through peoples’ legs, pushing them off to the side till he reached his two clutch-mates. O’hu bumbled along behind him mumbling apologies to the people his dragon knocked out of the way.
{Hello, Taceuth, Kallyeith,} Polyth said greeting his clutch-siblings politely although he hadn’t forgiven them for abandoning him that day. {Look some have hatched already!} He said to O’hu. {I wasn’t that small when I hatched!} {What are you talking about? You are still that small!} O’hu responded with a mental laugh. Polyth snorted bumping his head against O’hu’s leg in playful disagreement. {Hey, weren’t you supposed to be asking someone if it is okay to have a fire-lizard?} {Oh…yes. Thanks for reminding me…} Polyth said to his rider and then calling to their Weyrlingmaster’s dragon, . {Ablath…I was wondering if my rider and I had your permission to get a fire-lizard?} O’hu smiled hesitantly at the two weyrlings near him. He hadn’t gotten a chance to know them very well yet since his dragon had been sick those first few days. “Hello, M’iles, Th’or.” He said as he set down Hermy giving him the uneccessary command of, "Stay." Hermy wasn't the type of pup to go running off. He looked up at the weyrbrat balanced on Th'or's shoulders curiously. The child certainly had a good perch. Th’or was massive.

Not needed, Ask grumbled from the other side of the door. Andru laughed cheerfully as he fiddled with string and pulleys to try to open his door. He had inadvertently locked himself out of his own room that evening when he went to go take a bath. Now he had returned, wrapped in only a towel, and was trying desperately to get back in. He was hungry, shardit! Also, it was cold as between. Andrusk need help? Ask had rolled onto his back, looking up at the door and the faint shadows of Andru's feet. Uhh... maybe... See that hammer suspended by three strings? There was the faint sound of the blue scrambling up to his feet. Could ya just... pull it?
There was some scrambling as Ask positioned himself and then jumped to reach the hammer that was too far above his head. Eventually there was a loud clammer as his job was done and the door promptly swung open to reveal Ask, once again lying on his back, with a hammer in his mouth trailing three frayed strings. Andru smiled and took the hammer to set it on the bedside table, then closed his door and quickly began to change for the day.
Together (because he now had no way of securing the door without a lot of time and ingenuity) Andru and Ask then proceeded to the dining hall to get started on a late breakfast (although, Ask was left outside due to the brightness of the interior). What Andru found there, though, was a girl hiding behind a table staring intently at a basket of hatching firelizard eggs by the hearth. By the time he had gotten a plate of food and come back, several of the eggs had hatched and their contents bonded with some of the people who had begun to crowd around. Not even bothering to look for a table (as he meal mainly consisted of cured meats and rolls that could be eaten with his hands) he wandered over to where M'iles was standing and cocked his head to the side.
"Seems like a large clutch, eh? I didn't realize people at Weyrs would be so into flitters." He took a bite out of a slice of his cured meat as he continued to watch what was happening. Meanwhile, he felt Ask prodding at the back of his mind wondering what was going on. Didn't realize you were interested in 'lizard either, mate. He could feel Ask's indecision and then the faint reply Not sure...
Meanwhile, back at the weyr of a certain Weyrlingmaster, Ablath was growing so excited over what Shobie was telling her that all of her emotions were spilling over into her rider. Oh A'barMine! Did you know that a gold firelizard's eggs are hatching? It is so wonderful! I hear there's a queen egg in the clutch and so there will be some excitement to be had! What if one of our kids gets her? How lovely that would be, A'barMine!
"Not so lovely," A'bar grumbled as he removed his boots in preparation for bed, "Sounds like a sharding nightmare to me."
Oh, but A'barMine... Polyth's is there! Can't we let them have some happiness tonight? He even asked permission!
It's bad enough he has a new puppy...
Pleeeeeeease! I'll make sure that they're doing okay in lessons and I'll even babysit the puppy and the firelizard! I'm very good at babysitting! Beep thinks so! Ablath straightened with pride as the brown pillie currently occupying a tub in the corner of her room warbled in agreement, Beepbeep!
Oh no you won't! You're teaching lessons the same as me now! A'bar's resolve weakened as he felt Ablath's excitement dwindle into unhappiness and he wavered, But fine... as long as it doesn't interfere with their lessons or chores or their responsibilities to each other, I'm okay with it.
YAAAAAY! See, this is why you're the very best MyA'bar and why you're such a wonderful Weyrlingmaster! Ablath warbled aloud, sending Beep into a beeping frenzy as he got out of his bucket and rambled happily around the room. PolythDear! Bestest MyA'bar says it's okay! So long as you're still being good and stuff. I wish you luck!

By the time the first few had hatched, Sakalas had no mind on the mother of the clutch nor the green that was helping to back the crowd further away. It wasn't that she didn't care, because every time the firelizard came by she would politely move away as they wanted. However, she just didn't pay too much attention to what the gold and green were doing. Her eyes were on the eggs that were hatching and the firelizards that were now spilling from the split shells. A coy little smile curved at the edges of her lips as she twisted through a particular nasty part of the crowd, squeezing between two people that were huddled together both to keep warm and to stay toward the front.
"Scuze me!" She piped up, her purple-red hair bouncing as she popped her head between the two people, ending up somewhat close to Th'or and Shino. She would have said hello to the two, not that she knew them but hey why not make conversation right? Especially since there was a young dragonet on the man's arm too! However, at that time a green firelizard decided to shoot into her hair, tangling itself in her curls and chirping as she pressed her tiny snout against Saka's temple. "Easy, easy little girl. You're okay trust me." The greenrider worked at the mess on top of her head, Noke chirping unhappily as she tried to nose apart the curls, Riku trilling in earnest as she tried to give aid as well.
Their new sister needed help. Sure they would probably all have their share of bickering later, but right now they needed to help her! The two older firelizards finally freed the green with Theirs' help, and the baby chittered hungrily, her neck craning down over Saka's forehead trying to reach the meatroll in her hand. "Oh! Of course." Tearing off a bite-sized chunk, the girl let the green snap it up, a happy little whistle saying that she had accepted it and wanted more. "You need a name.....hmmmr, there's Riku, and Noke...you kind of remind me of my mom's flit when she was my age. She's gone now....what was her name?" The rider thought for a moment before snapping her fingers, "oh yeah it was Maybelle!"
Maybelle chirped at the recognition, snaking her head back down to grab at the meatroll and tear off another piece for herself. I still think I should eat it... Lorenth mumbled to herself, the green deciding that she was quickly growing bored at the situation and was unhappily by herself. Come to see me after they're all hatched? I want..I want to meet her. After all, this one was like a mini-her wasn't it? This was another of her color, so perhaps it would not be as bad as the other two pests.
---
Mayalene meanwhile was entirely captured by the image of the firelizards finding their new owners. She didn't dare get closer though, despite her feet wanting desperately to take her into the crowd, the people were enough of a deterrent alone let alone the two flits that were less than happy with the watchers. "If one wants me...it'll find me right?" Seleneth crooned half-heartedly, her eyes closing as she drifted off. For now Hers would figure it all out on her own, nothing could happen until she made her move or did not. Maya was right however they cyan decided, if a firelizard wanted her then it would find her. It didn't necessarily mean that the cyanrider felt any better or was any closer to coming toward the crowd though, if anything she frowned and tilted her head, trying to decide what the best course of action would be.

Veritka was cleaning his room. He liked to clean his room; liked to fold his clothes neatly and organize his drawers. It was soothing to him, but he was rather serene to begin with. He was settling into Dalibor, and despite having no friends and no dragon, felt quite good about himself. Chores kept him away from cooking more than he would have liked, but that was fine. If there was one thing he learned from Cold River Hold, it was how to entertain himself. That and 'always wear a jacket.'
The announcement of firelizards punctuated his pocket of silence and startled him rather well. Firelizards? he mused. But he wasn't sure whether or not to go. Would he be able to take care of one? How did they work? Would they like him? Would there be enough eggs? And he debated for quite some time before he stood, smoothed out his trousers, checked his hair, and embarked on his journey to the dining hall. The winter air was nippy on his nose and he sniffled back a great deal of mucus.
Shy as he was, he was taken aback to find so many people crowded about the hearth. He wouldn't say he was surprised, for he expected a flit hatching to draw in the masses, but it was still a lot of people. Should I just go on in there? Should I wait back here? How do these work? And, having missed the instructions, Veritka found it best to simply stand about until something happened. It happened quite quickly, at least, as a giddy kitchen worker nudged a tub of meat scraps at him. He recognized her but didn't remember her name.
"Hey, Veritka! Take one of these. Flits like 'em!" she grinned. "Wish I could get one myself but I heard you can't pick 'um and shells if I got one that'd zip all around the kitchen, y'know? But you go on. Practice for yer dragon, eh?" As he hesitantly took a rather slimy, gristly strand of meat, she winked at him and moved on.
He suddenly felt very embarrassed. He had a terrible sense of foreboding come over him, standing there like that with his meat, that the firelizards wouldn't like him and his stupid piece of meat, or his stupid nose or his stupid hair. I need a haircut, he lamented. Then, realizing he couldn't even see the hatching dragonets through the crowd, he sucked a deep breath in through his sniffly nose and wiggled his way into a gap in the horde.
There they were: little eggs and little flits, and little Veritka watching. "Wow," he squeaked, and the jolt of one of the eggs nearly made him drop his scrap. [/blockquote]

Kelsira was quietly sitting at an out of the way table, finishing her meal. She was hoping to finish her meal and make it back to the barracks without drawing much attention to herself. Of course, standing taller than most women, and as tall as some of the men didn't make her task an easy one. Sighing, she pushed her now empty plate away and wrapped her hands around a cup a klah. Slowly but surely, she was settling in to life at the Weyr. While she hadn't made any friends yet, there were candidates and workers who she felt comfortable enough with to hold short conversations with. The kitchen staff had become used to her early morning habits, and were no longer surprised to see her duck in for a cup of klah and a roll on her way out to practice her craft. If she was honest with herself, Dalibor was becoming less of a place she was temporarily at, and beginning to feel more like home.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the deposit of firelizard eggs by the hearth. Lifting her cup to her lips, she took a sip and watched as a crowd began to form. Surely they couldn't be just handing them out could they? Eventually her curiosity won out over solitude, and she drained her cup before joining the crowd. Standing along the edges, her height allowed her to see easily as the first eggs hatched and bonded. A smile tugged at her lips as the hatchlings stumbled out of the basket, reminding her of the dragonets in the earlier hatching. A passing kitchen worker handed her a few scraps as she passed by, and before Kelsira could thank her, she'd moved on. Deciding to try her luck, Kelsira kept her eyes on the eggs in front of her, wondering which ones would hatch next.

Calmere was practically hyperventilating. All he'd wanted to do was pick up a meal and whisk himself away before Hermodris caught him. Or before a bunch of Candidates invited him to sit with them and discovered they mostly knew him by different names. Suddenly the room was crowded; he saw whers, he saw dragonets, he saw an absolutely enormous man, and there were squealing firelizards everywhere.
He had to get out of here.
With a meatroll clasped in his hand, he made his polite way through the crowd, only to pause on spotting the one person at this Weyr he didn't instantly try to avoid. Taza. He sidled up to his wife and offered her his supper. "Here," he said softly. "You can give it to a flitter. I mean, if you want to." But he knew full well she would like one - who wouldn't? Not like he'd be opposed either, it was just the crowd making him feel a bit ill. And they were free, and there were lots of them. Was that a queen egg? All the more reason to support her, while staying a bit back to ensure he wouldn't Impress instead. He settled his hand instinctively at her waist, telling himself it was to protect her from jostling.
Maybe they could really make this work, he thought. Maybe it would be a blessing. Candidacy and weyrlinghood would force them both to grow and mature. It would completely cut out the physical aspects of the relationship. Maybe focusing on emotional intimacy would help. Wait, they couldn't get thrown out for being in love, could they? No, that would be absurd.

"A fine name, lady Shino of Dalibor Weyr, once lost as the small, now the tallest of them all!" Th'or cracked himself up on that one, Kallyeith doing her best to imitate his loud, booming laughter with her own dainty one. She had the energy, the enthusiasm and all the raging determination of her rider- just... none of the brawn or mass that came with him. Poor thing, she would likely be lucky to build enough strength to carry him for an entire patrol's worth of time.
Kallyeith preened at the sound of the young girl praising her amazing person. Of course Th'or was incredible, he was hers! She'd chosen him simply because he was the greatest and best and most fantastic ever- just like her, of course! My Th'or is definitely the best Th'or ever, there's no one greater than he is and has that name- because he's the best and I will take on anyone who tells me otherwise! She decided she really liked this Shino girl, small and silly though she was, her head turned to Th'or, craning her neck forward enough to rub her jaw along his stubbly cheek. Th'or? Can we keep her? Pleeeaaaassssseee? She'll be the second pet we keep. I promise I'll remember her feeding times and sleep times and exercise times and will walk her every day!
Th'or, too busy roaring with laughter at the wide eyed begging of his dragon to do much else than hail his brother with a wave and sling a carefree arm around the young man's shoulders. Brothers forever, and forever together- as it should be! "Ahhh, lighten up, brother, for this is a cause and time for celebration! Another fine hatching with folks who will return to their beds this night, content and dreaming of finding clutches like these all for themselves, and perhaps following in the fine Lady Valha's footsteps, training a mighty fair to do her bidding. Smile more! We don't want to scare the little beasts away, now do we?" He gestured, pointing up to Shino. "She is no brat, dear brother, but a gentle young lass with great spirit by the name of Shino- isn't that just a fine name?"
Kallyeith chimed in immediately afterward, looking entirely too interested in both the conversation and the hatching going on as the flits began to converge on the crowds. So pretty! And they all had lovely things to help feed them too... maybe Th'or would let her taste it, make sure it was good enough friend bait. It's true, Clever M'iles of Taceuth the Wise! She is a fine little weyrperson, and we're helping her find a friend! A firelizard friend at that! You should help us, Th'or thinks you'd know the absolutely Perfect Firelizard for her too, and same for me! I want a firelizard friend too, don't you want another friend too? And I think Taceuth would looooove one as well!

Though he was frequently one of the first into the dining hall, and definitely the most aggressive about claiming a desirable seat before the most scrumptious food, Q'sis was rarely one of the first to leave. He liked to talk, after all. Tell stories. And eat. He was nibbling the crown of a wherry drumstick when Valha spilled into the hall and stamped her eggbasket to the other end of the grand stone table. Q'sis laid down the drumstick and cleaned his fingers on a napkin of red cloth, watching his fellow twinrider's flits scream into a loose guardianship of the basket. Far off as he was, he still heard Valha's exhausted proclamation. Please, take them. All of them.
He leaned over the table and finished his mug of frosted white wine, grabbing the pitcher and topping off his belt-flask. And his green eyes stayed on Valha, and the crowd that began to mummify her in its greed. Then a crackle of premonition scampered up his spine, and looked right just in time to see Fel being led in like an old blind woman. She didn't see him, he thought. She might not see anything, given the look of her face. Q'sis found himself trying to study the empty plate in front of him, but one of the Weyrfolk had already whisked it away. He was so accustomed to their neat housekeeping that he never really noticed them bustling around the tables anymore.
The tanrider glanced back up at Fel, and ended up following her progress to the basket. He marked her assistant. He did not know Ni'on to be an infirmary bug, but he had not worked there so much at late.
Valha pried a pink from her shoulder like a parasite. The pink went to Fel. Q'sis got up. Dressed in his black-and-red coat- he'd been over to a Crescent market earlier in the day -he advanced on the crowd, Valha, and the basket. Unstoppable. People slipped out of his path gracefully, or yanked their legs back when his bootheel met their feet. He did not have to shove out any of them to reach Valha, who was worming uselessly toward the perimeter and was still so close to the basket that Q'sis could see the eggshells when he stepped in front of her. The tallest tanrider made a smile at his miniaturized counterpart. Not cruel, or sarcastic, just a sympathetically weary glow charged to further warmth by the paper-wrapped lights of the Dining Hall.
He bent just enough to get one hand on each of her hips, then hauled Valha free of the human molasses, pushing her front up over his broad shoulder. Keeping her in place with his left hand firm on her rump, he used the right to pull off his belt-flask and stick out back into her small fingers.
"Sup of this," he commanded. "And quiet yourself." With his hand free of the flask, he adjusted his right arm to a companionable hug around Valha's dangling legs, then turned and broke through the crowd toward the main exit. Though there was no difficulty in the stone hall beyond, he kept walking in his usual ground-eating composure.
But he knew what had happened almost as quick as she did. A sterner step carried him out to the side passage blocked by a great creamy head. Unlike before, he had not tried to block Mith's mistake, leaving that responsibility open to her rider.
And Valha had done nothing. The arm on her legs tightened. By the time Q'sis rounded the bend onto the scene of a slurp-worthy V'yeri and hatchling, T'von, and a newly shrunken Mith cowering on the wall, he resembled a great shadow taken to fury. Unath had fluttered down to sit aside her twin once Mith began advertising the firelizards, but was now only looking on blankly as her pale doppelganger quivered against the rock.
Q'sis! she greeted when she saw him storming down the hall toward them, quite impervious to the emotional suggestion of his rigid advance. The dragon only rumbled, happy to see him.
T'von was passed with those narrow green eyes trying to cut under his skin, and a sideswipe of that enormous stature if the lad wasn't careful. Touching Mith like a cattle head would have spawned even greater offense were the man not already preoccupied with Valha's failings.
"Shardit," he snarled at the gooey dragonpair, dispensing Valha to the ground like a roll of rug. "You again," he noted of V'yeri. The Candidate had impressed a mutant, some putrid green-yet-male monstrosity. He was far from verified, even if Q'sis tried to apply better stock to those the dragons heeded these days. "Go on then," he snapped. "Get the dusted eggs you tempted Mith for." V'yeri was not going to enjoy much wiggle room in this offer: Q'sis would haul him up by the collar and give him a momentous toss in the right direction if he delayed.
Then he went to Mith, resting both hands above the rough curve of her lip, on the soft patch a little ways back from her nostril. "What's wrong with you?" He looked over at Valha. "You let her do it again. She could have chopped that sickly green goose's head off. No control."

Valha, lifted unceremoniously and not really minding, as long as Q'sis took her away from the eggs, accepted the offered wineskin and took a deep drink from in, barely managing to swallow before Mith's sudden, blaring distress cut through any relief from the escape. She frowned – what in the world? Muddling through Mith's recent actions, disregarding the...approved mischief, Valha came across the problem.
Distracted, she barely managed to roll enough to avoid landing on her face when Q'sis dropped her. A quick glance confirmed V'yeri and his dragon as slimy, but unharmed, so she settled for scowling disapprovingly at T'von before stepping around the whole lot of them to take Mith's face into her hands, rubbing soothing circles onto the tan's lower jaw until she relaxed somewhat.
Why...? Mith sounded a bit morose, though already the memories of her upset were fading, more interested in Q'sis's fluctuating emotions.
Nothing you did, lovely one. Valha reassured her, before tilting her head a little at Q'sis accusation, glancing behind her to make sure V'yeri was out of earshot.
“More like perfect control,” she said smugly to Q'sis, a predatory grin surfacing briefly on her face, “At no point were we going to actually risk hurting them – I made sure they were supported on teeth, rather than between teeth, this time. It was just...a little bit of mischief.”
Dealing with a Queen clutch might have broken Valha's sense of good and bad, just a little.
* * *
Back inside the dining hall, as if in reaction to even more people joining the quickly swelling crowd, more and more eggs started to show signs of activity, legs and heads were popping out of eggs everywhere – a black was almost completely out of his egg, and a green not far behind. One light blue tail trailed out of a hole and stuck awkwardly straight into the air!
But the most distracting of all was the gleaming, golden egg – it was rocking, now, rhythmically, a small crack pulsing like a heartbeat on one side. It really did look like it had quite some ways to go before completely hatching...until that side completely shattered, sending golden egg shards flying into the crowd, and a single, shining copper wing unfurled.
OOC: Round two is closed! More babies tomorrow, have some good old fashioned excitement in the meantime!
