I will work on constructing a full list of awesome for the staff board, but notes to myself:
- Records update spot in newly reorganized records board (since records errors do not count for marks). - Put up lots of bulletin boards: candidate bulletin board, weyrling bulletin board, wherling bulletin board, weyr bulletin board, wherhandler bulletin board. - Maps for everything. Everywhere.
With the post tagging things, if people care that much, do you want me to look into message icons and then creating a reference guide for those?

26. ACTIVITY CHECK. Pre-hatching would be good (for guessing game odds), but post is fine.
I don't really care how posts are tagged, so long as it's visible on the search results (recent posts) page, which is the only thing I read.

There's no way to set up a system where it will be sure to be visible in the new posts unless everyone is interested in starting to tag every one of their posts in their subject lines. As it is, they can get cut off and you can't tell the whole thread by later posts. Tagging it with icons would work better in terms of being systematic/set, but it only displays for the first post of a subject.

As a note, you can always use the New Topics option up at the top. It displays threads (with new tags for ones you haven't read) in the order they've been most recently posted in/posted. It's too few for us sometimes (yay activity), but it's pretty good.

Can I suggest we get a list of IC searchriders? That way for anyone who wants to be searched IC, we know whom we can contact to get everything rolling :>

I was thinking maybe a good thing to do would be to send app revisions to people via PM. A lot of places I have played at did it this way and it just means for those who maybe don't know Pern they'll feel a lot less concerned about editing their profiles if there are revisions given to them privately . It just means that all of their flaws aren't thrown out into the open for everyone to see and they then feel better about modifying? It's something I find sometimes when joining new places where I would prefer it if people sent PMs to me with revisions.

We don't formally have searchriders. Should we introduce a list that you have to be on to search or actually organize formal searches?

I for one would definitely not be in favour of that. It was my understanding that any dragon can Search, but certain dragons have more of an aptitude for it and are made into actual Searchdragons who are formally sent out. I think it would only discourage people (like myself ) who would like to play out occasional Searches but don't have actual Searchdragons from plotting, not to mention put a lot of pressure on the few IC Searchriders we do have. I think it would work just fine for people who would like IC Searches to put it in their plot thread or ask around in the cbox. EDIT: Also, re: app revisions. I rather like that they're done out in the open. For one thing it means that prospective members can easily see the sorts of things people tend to get tripped up by, and can therefore, if they care to do the research on the unaccepted apps, perhaps stamp out those flaws prior to turning in their apps. That tends to lead to a shorter revision process. It also means that all admins can see what the others are saying without having to go to the trouble of PMing each other or whatever.

I think a list would be good (and having a few NPCs on there so people who don't want to arrange an IC Search can just grab someone would be good also). As far as declaring new Searchriders, perhaps one or two per Weyrling class? I don't know how they would be picked out; having people just try to play their dragons as more empathic than other dragons would be silly, but it would be better if it weren't completely random too. At the same time I kind of agree with Cath...any dragon should have the potential to Search, as it makes plotting more convenient. I was thinking maybe a good thing to do would be to send app revisions to people via PM. A lot of places I have played at did it this way and it just means for those who maybe don't know Pern they'll feel a lot less concerned about editing their profiles if there are revisions given to them privately . It's something I find sometimes when joining new places where I would prefer it if people sent PMs to me with revisions. I can't agree with this. And I say that after pretty much crying over my first set of revisions and attempting to baleet my first app because I thought I was horrible and Bre hated me. The reason I can't agree is because there are Dalicanon nuggets stowed away in the revisions, as well as this particular staff's expectations about how profiles should be written. This is valuable information for us onlookers. xD

I'd like to be able to get straight to "modify profile" from the navbar instead of having to go through the profile link.

Regarding Application Revisions:
I am in agreement with Azh and Cath on this. While PM revisions might be good for one's ego, it tends to lead to PR nightmares in the long run. For example, if someone were to take offense at some revisions and go raging and making stuff up, there would be some problems. No one would know what was said except for the staff member and the member in question. You could screen cap, but it's always a lot better if other people ALSO saw the revisions and can vouch for what was actually said.
Not saying this is a very likely reason, but it could happen! I believe some of us still remember a couple particular incidents surrounding the revisions to applications... now imagine if that had happened with a solely PM-revision system. >> Frightening.

I suppose that a link to the Dali Plots would be in the Library? *points to Azh's*

Linking straight to modify profile would require input I'm not sure can go there, so I went with the library for now.

9246) Consider removing the karma system. It currently seems to serve solely as an outlet for passive aggression and pointless popularity contests. xD

Just belatedly pointing out RE: revisions being public versus private, that whichever mod posts the revisions also edits that post to remove all of that text when they approve an app. Which means if you weren't there at the time, you'd never know what's a Dali nugget of information and what's straight out of the applicant's head.
Kind of renders the whole "if it's public there's proof" argument moot. Just my two cents. Maybe make it more well-known that you can ask the mods to look it over and give their thoughts privately while it's still in the WIP section?

Maybe make it more well-known that you can ask the mods to look it over and give their thoughts privately while it's still in the WIP section? I had been recording edits referential to unwritten Dali canon (where it deviates significantly from the books or simply requires clarification): daliborweyr.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=8154&page=1I can do so again, there just hasn't been anything juicy in a while. I'll ask the mods to reinstate the thread though. If anybody who observes a canon nugget in an app revision posts it on the thread, I'll add it to the top and confirm with the mods if it's a revision that has been smushed out by love and acceptance. Unique ideas in approved apps would have to be canon, at least in the limited spectrum of life a particular person affects (ex. what is canon culture for Q'sis' trading caravan is not necessarily canon for any others).

Would you all be interested in having bumping powers? This would be for any person who has been assigned a group (which should be anyone with an approved character; I apologize if you haven't been). We're doing a rules update irregardless; it would not be hard to include a clause where I will beat you with a shoe if you abuse it (i.e. you cannot bump all your threads, all the time).
